About this listing
If you are a single executive traveler, couple or family small or large, and you're looking for a short term rental with all the comforts of home, which is fun and possesses unusual charm and functional utility, look no further. This furnished craftsmanly two-story bungalow has all the charm of its 1920s architecture, the efficiency of an uncompromising complete remodel and the fun of unique musical art. It's a great combination.
The bungalow is about 2000 sq feet, superbly appointed with a musical theme and ideally located in the middle of Sacramento. lt has two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs, with a bath on each floor. Upstairs bedrooms have queen beds, dressers, closets and are deeply colored and very relaxing.
Both downstairs bedrooms have room fans and french doors to the garden. One has two twin beds, night stands, lamps, dresser and closet. The other has a queen bed, dresser, bookshelf, small closet and reading lamps.
Both bathrooms have cherry cabinets with granite countertops and porcelain sinks. The upstairs bath includes a jetted tub/shower, the downstairs bath has a full-sized shower with cornerless heavy glass and two sinks. We keep a plentiful supply of towels on hand as well as a few toiletries, typically toothbrushes & toothpaste, shampoo and bodywash.
The house was recently rebuilt from the frame up, including all electrical, plumbing, walls, cabinets, staircase, fixtures and appliances and all the windows except the front four. There is an abundance of natural wood everywhere, from the hand-rubbed custom doors to the carefully mitered baseboards and crown molding. Cherry cabinets and granite countertops grace the kitchen. It is a highly-pleasurable place to be in.
It is heart-warming to see an old house looking so smart, and we keep it spotless.
It is also close to everything. Dozens of high-quality restaurants in all price ranges are within a mile radius. We've eaten at most of them and would be happy to recommend. There is a Whole Foods two miles away and great Italian, French, Nouveau Chinese literally 50 yards up the street. The American River is about a half-mile and Cal Expo and Sacramento State are within two miles. The Capitol is about five and the airport is 20 miles, around 1/2 hour. Lake Tahoe is 100 miles east and San Francisco is 80 miles west.
The bungalow is also close to Watt Ave and Highway 50, but you wouldn't know it. It is on a large, ½ acre lot with dozens of trees, a creek and a large rustic greenbelt that makes it very private. It is perfect for working alone or relaxing with family or friends, and its location in Wilhaggin, one of Sacramento's most secure neighborhoods, insures peace of mind.
It's a wonderful place for a dinner party, whether you are a beginner or a gourmet. The granite and cherry kitchen is fully-equipped, state of the art and all-Kitchenaid, including a large french door interior-dispensing refrigerator, five-burner gas cooktop with large-btu center burner and powerful exhaust fan, large wall oven and microwave with convection feature and dishwasher. The kitchen sink is a white Kohler enameled cast iron with their dandy half-height smart divider and the Delta faucet is very well designed. There is also a KitchenAid mixer, Cuisinart Food Processor, electric kettle, coffeemaker, blender, 4-slice toaster and Belgian waffle maker. It's a really fun kitchen to cook in. The island is also perfect to lay out the take out, if you're not into cooking!
The large mission-styled dining set accommodates eight diners and there are place-settings, flatware and stemware for at least ten on hand.
The living room has a comfy American Standard leather sofa, a corduroy armchair and jump chair. The TV is a 37" Panasonic HDTV and Blue Ray DVD player. Comcast is our cable and Internet provider. Apple TV is installed if you want to access the many channels available, or stream content from your iPhone, Android or other mobile device over the wireless network.
The office has a small desk/table, executive chair, stylish guest chairs and a large secretary, which contains many volumes of excellent music and film biographies and reference books. There is also a wireless Canon printer which is network-enabled.
The entire house is adorned with music-related art, including a large signed silkscreen of John Van Hamersveld's iconic "Endless Summer," a number of '60s posters and handbills from the Fillmore and the Avalon; some great vintage Sacramento concert posters and a bunch more silkscreens, original art pieces and chromelin proofs. Many were created for Tower Records' Pulse! Magazine, where I used to work. There are also some interesting original Tower-oriented pieces, including art used in Tower's London grand opening and a decoupaged story about the shoppers at Tower Sunset from the 1971 L.A. Times. They are a lot of fun and beautiful, too. I have lots of interesting music objects that I rotate in, out and around the house, so there should always be some surprises.
The Arden Park/Willaggen area is one of Sacramento's most desirable neighborhoods. And though we are very close to busy streets like Fair Oaks Blvd. and Watt Ave., the house is located on a private lane with very little traffic. The place is surrounded by trees and overlooks a rustic greenbelt complete with a seasonal creek. There is also a fully-furnished studio cottage on the property available.

Interaction with guests
I am a hands-on owner but you will never see me unless you want to. I like to stage the house and be gone when you get there, but I do live less than a mile away and am almost always available. I enjoy answering questions and helping any way I can.
It's one of Sacramento's nicest neighborhoods, full of tree-lined streets, lovely parks and beautiful homes, with excellent retail in all directions, top notch dining within a hundred yards and the super fine American river and hiking/biking trail is less than a half-mile walk.
Depends where you're going. You can access a bus stop about 1/4 mile from here, which isn't bad. It's great for some destinations and not as good for others. Ask me and I'll figure out bus routes for you if you need to take the bus during your stay.
Pets are occasionally allowed based on age, breed and how long it has been since we last had a pet guest, and agreement on our basic pet rules is required.
Some smaller events or parties are OK, but we have specific requirements which must be agreed to in advance, particularly parking limitations.
Generally, please just take good care of the place. Respect the art and furniture, don't move things around too much and let us know immediately if something breaks or becomes inoperable. We'll also think kindly of you if you run the dishwasher before you leave. Thank you!

I am Mike Farrace, born in Berkeley, raised in Antioch and a Sacramento resident since 1972. I worked as a VP for Tower Records for almost 30 years, working in stores, publishing magazines and starting our Internet business in 1995. I spent much of that time traveling around the world on Tower business, collecting stuff, much of which I display in my exceptional rental abodes. These days, my full-time job is selling rock art and photography. I offer two excellent dwellings, a charming studio cottage and a four-bedroom, vintage craftsmanly bungalow, both in one of Sacramento's greatest neighborhoods. Both feature great vintage rock poster art and photography. I love doing this and encourage you to comment or ask questions about your stay or, in fact, anything. I will respond promptly and enthusiastically. I want to be a great host.
