Loft - Entire home/apt · Singel, Amsterdam, North Holland 1012, Netherlands

The Space

This lovely two-story artist loft apartment with extraordinary view is right in the heart of Amsterdam. Located in the middle of the Singel, the most central of the main canals. It is in between the famous Flower market and the Spui; in walking distance of Rembrandtsplein, Leidseplein and the Dam. Actually, it is in walking distance of almost all major places of interest, whether it is a museum, a theatre, a shopping center or a nice restaurant. So ample opportunities to leisurely walk around town, enjoying the city in full.

The loft is located at the third and fourth floor of a centuries' old canal house, an official state monument. In its long history it has been a cigar factory, amongst many other things. It has a light living room offering beautiful views on the canal and monumental houses and catholic church opposite. Actually, the location is so nice, some people just spend the day in the house, in front of the two big window doors, letting the city enter the house, instead of moving into the city themselves.

This is in the front of the living room, which consists completely of windows. In the back of the room is the adjoining kitchen. The apartment furthermore consists of 2 bedrooms (9 and 12 m2), a separate artist studio space and a nice roof terrace. The studio space will not be accessible but the rest of the house is free for you to use. There is a toilet and a separate bathroom.

The interior decoration is idiosyncratic, it has a slightly modernist bend, but being an artist, many things are custom made or customized. The apartment is ready to be a home for 1-2 young kids. Upon request we can put a small table and chairs with some toys in the living room. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven and dishwasher. There is a Miele washing machine.

If necessary, public transport allows you to reach all over town without a hassle. There is a tram stop at 50 yards (lines 1; 2 and 5) and another one at 150 yards (lines 4; 9; 14; 16; and 24 & 25). The central railway station is just five minutes away making it easy to come into town and leave.

NB Please be aware it is a non-smoking house.

  • This was such an amazing place to stay! The location was excellent, very near both touristy things and more local type of shopping. There are excellent restaurants nearby, or the possibility to shop and cook in the apartment. It is on a main street, but because the bedroom is in the back, it was very quiet. The front windows afford an excellent view and a beautiful sunset. I would stay here again!

  • We had a fantastic stay at a place you don't want to leave. Super friendly service, the location is perfect, right next to the 'nine streets' and the Jordaan, our favorite part of Amsterdam with cute shops and cafes on your doorstep. The view from the apartment of the canal and old church is beautiful and the apartment itself very comfortable, clean and spacious.

  • We stayed at the apartment for 4 days and had a great time.
The apartment is very comfortable, clean and cosy, the location is perfect, and Elisabeth is so kind, friendly and provides useful information. She was willing to help us before and during the trip.
Internet was excellent, we used the kitchen and both bdrooms.

  • I use Airbnb for all my travels and this one is a gem, a true home away from home. I planned a Family reunion here and it was just wonderful. We cooked, read and played games, (super fast Internet) discovered the town and I highly recommend it for all ages (my Aunts are in their 70's). The stairs are a breeze with the stools and luggage help the lovely host Elisabeth offered. Our favorite, often sunny spot was the large table at the window overlooking the canal and church. Grocery shopping, the Flower market, 9 Straatjes, Broodje-Bert and Gartine are all right around the corner.

This is the best way to visit Amsterdam, we absolutely loved it.

  • This place is great! Clean, well located right where you can hop on the tram or walk through the picturesque canals like a local; a great view and wonderful hosts. The beds were comfortable and it was great fun to sit at the windows and watch the city go by when I wasn't out and about. Lots of space too. And non smoking a real plus.

  • We've had a great time in Elisabeth's apartment.

The apartment is in a great location and the facilities are in an excellent condition - You can find there every electric appliance that you can expect to be in a home.
Elisabeth had been decorating the apartment with a unique style and accessories which you cannot find in any hotel.

In addition to all, Elisabeth is a great host and a very nice and kind person and was happy to assist us with our questions and requests.

I would highly recommend getting this apartment when traveling to Amsterdam.

  • Apartment was great, amazing location. Host was very nice and picked us up from the airport. We had some trouble with the internet connection but I am pretty sure they are over by now.

  • We have just returned from 2 months in Amsterdam at Elisabeth's wonderful apartment. Very pleased to report that the description on the website is accurate, perhaps it even understates the comfort, facilities, space, light and brilliant location. We would sincerely recommend this place to anyone wishing to have a genuine Amsterdam experience. The owners and the neighbours were all very friendly and helpful, we stopped feeling like tourists by day 3.
Despite its location in the Centrum, the apartment is surprisingly quiet inside. The views of the canal and Krijtberg church from the sunny south facing windows really does make this a place you don't want to leave.

I am an artist living in Amsterdam since the nineties. I love travelling, but hate hotels. Personal homes offer intimacy and experience, letting you be yourself instead of being another tourist number.
