The Tree House Airbnb was a very nice place to stay. The neighborhood is pleasant.
Susan and Mark provided us with a great hosted stay in Oakland! Location is terrific and room is quiet, light and airy. We did not feel like interlopers at all---more like roommates! Thanks Susan and Mark,
This was my first Airbnb experience.
As a single woman traveling I found it welcoming, safe and comfortable. I plan to return when I visit Oakland again.
Susan and Mark have a fantastic home and a perfect airbnb set-up. The rooms are light-filled and cozy, very clean and comfortable. I've been able to do work in the sitting area and always get a good night's rest-- it is so quiet and peaceful! The location is absolutely perfect for anyone who enjoys good coffee, world class dining, shopping at local boutiques, and an authentic community neighborhood feel. It really doesn't get better than this. If you're coming to the Bay Area, this is where you want to be. No need to rent a car, either-- buses run down to Bart all the time!
1st experience with airbnb was a huge success! My sister and I had a wonderful experience with Susan and Mark. The treehouse was perfectly situated to the restaurant we were trying (Commis) and the rest of Piedmont was a joy to walk the next morning. The rooms worked out wonderfully, the bed was comfortable and we even had our own bathroom. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to get to know the couple, but they were the perfect hosts. I highly recommend Caffe Trieste for coffee/breakfast. Thank you, thank you Mark and Susan for making us feel welcome and giving us a great home away from home for the night.
Full disclosure: I'm writing this review for my parents who recently stayed with our kind and lovely neighbors, Mark and Susan. They'd traveled across the country to meet our daughter, their granddaughter, for the first time - and staying with Mark and Susan worked out perfectly. The space was comfortable and they couldn't beat the location of being next door to us - and right off Piedmont Avenue, my parents favorite place to stroll when they visit. They were able to get up every morning, walk two doors down, see their granddaughter wake up, grab their coffee and a pastry from Peet's on the corner, and wander up to the cemetery for a walk along the beautiful fountains and paths. If you're planning a trip to Oakland, STAY HERE. My parents will definitely be back.
Susan and Mark are marvelous hosts. They cared about us and our stay, and were available for us if we needed help, but never intruded on us. We were in their flat, but always felt like we had our own "space". We had a bedroom, a sitting room and, effectively, an ensuite bathroom. The rooms were bright and sunny, and with 2 closets were never cluttered. The street is quiet and peaceful, but we were only a couple hundred meters from Piedmont Ave with all the restaurants, bars, coffee houses, book stores, and shops. Broadway, MacArthur and Telegraph Aves. Are close with lots more good eating and interesting shops. BART is a 15 minute walk away. The Treehouse is a great place to stay, and managed by fantastic hosts. This was my first stay and my wife's second; it certainly won't be our last!
Perfect for our needs: Excellent location and neighbourhood, ample space available, freedom to prepare breakfast. Susan and Mark made our stay enjoyable by responding immediately to our wishes ( e.g. heating on the cold days) and communicating of things going on in the surroundings. They rise early but move quietly, and we did not bother using the provided white noise machine. No wonder their calendar is full! If we will be needing B&B in Oakland/Bay Area, this will surely be the first place we'll consider.
Susan and Mark are wonderful people and hosts. Their home is only half a block from Piedmont Avenue, which has multiple restaurants, shops and art galleries, so finding a great meal or interesting things to look at and do in Oakland is only steps away. They did everything possible to make me feel at home. The room is very comfortable and having a private bath is wonderful. I definitely plan to stay with them for my next visit to my son.
Written by Caitlin - This sweet little guest room off of Susan and Mark's kitchen allows for privacy while lounging on the couch in the living room/office and bedroom. The warm and friendly atmosphere of the shared kitchen is very zen and welcoming. When we stayed, there was a huge windstorm and power was lost for the majority of Oakland. Mark hung a flashlight on the front door knob and lit the way to our room with battery operated tea lights. Both Mark and Susan were very thoughtful hosts.
