The Space

Each year I rent my studio out to an assortment of visitors: festival goers, tourists, artists, Austin transplants and graduate students. The space is a unique studio--think cabin meets loft--and is located in the heart of downtown Austin's historic neighborhood, Clarksville. This is a private studio located behind a larger house. Plenty of privacy, lots of natural light, and ideal for an artistic minded person(s).

Available for short term rentals: weekend, weekdays and weeklong.
*I do accept and give special offers on occasion. At times, depending on my schedule I will accept 1 night stays.

Nearest intersection is W 6th and Lamar:
7 min walk from house to landmark corner of Austin with Whole Foods, Book People and Waterloo Records
20 min walk to 6th and Congress
Transportation: 1 block from public bus stop/easy cab access/bike cabs/walk to downtown
Nearby Attractions: Downtown Austin, Clubs, Bars, Book Store, Deep Eddy Swimming Pool, Art Museums/Gallaries
Nearby Restaurants: Zocalo, Cafe Medici, Galaxy Cafe, Cipollina, Whole Foods, Counter Cafe

Private 1 Bed/1 Bath Studio, 500sqft
Stereo/CD/Record Player
Kitchenette (refrigerator/toaster/hot plates)
6 large windows
Queen Bed on loft accessed by ladder (sleeps 2)
Fold Out Couch (sleeps 1)
Single Bathroom/Shower
*This is a studio/living space. The bathroom is unconventional, consisting of a single stand up shower and toilet. The area is separated from a closet by curtains.
This is fine for single folks/couples/ and close friends. If you are an extremely private person you may not be content with this arrangement.
Front Porch with Hammock Chair
Washer & Dryer for Laundry
Parking for vehicles on street

  • This spot had a very nice, quiet and secluded feeling that was great to come back to after being out all day. The location is amazing, as well, as you are in walking distance from anything you might like to do downtown.

    Aimee was great and communicative

  • Aimee's place was great! My boyfriend and I stayed there this past weekend when we were in town for a wedding. We loved the space and felt very at home in it. It is indeed in close walking distance to all sorts of stuff. We walked home late from Donn's Depot, which was two blocks away and it couldn't have been easier. It was hot outside, but it stayed very cool in the studio even up in the loft. We had everything we needed and felt very comfortable. We didn't meet Aimee--she was out of town--but she left us the key and it all went very smoothly. It looks like the pictures, cozy, shady, comfortable, and charming.

  • For our first time in Austin, I don't think my boyfriend and I could have picked a better place than Aimee's studio. It was tidy, cool, comfortable and best of all, perfectly located—we were within walking distance to everything, and only needed to use a cab/pedicab a couple times (just to rest our feet from walking all over the city each day/night). Aimee's collection of art, books and music was great. As other reviewers may have mentioned, it is a studio, so you won't have a ton of privacy, especially in the bathroom area. Luckily this wasn't really an issue for us, and the place more than made up for it as far as charm and accessibility.
Other odds and ends ... The studio is tucked behind another house. The people living there seem friendly enough—we didn't talk much besides saying hello here and there. They do have a motion light, which helps when you are coming back at night. There's tall grass/vegetation all around the house, so we found we needed to use bug spray to keep mosquitoes at bay (no big deal). There are great food/drink options nearby—cute little bakery on 6th and Whole Foods is just a few blocks away!
Overall, it was such a great experience, and we'd definitely rent the studio again! Thanks, Aimee!

  • We had a pretty good time here. The neighborhood is great, and the unit looks just like in the photos, very cute. It wasn't super clean, there was some mold or something growing in the closet area, it was affecting our allergies, but Aimee's sister came over and sprayed it with a bleach solution and we felt better after that. There were also a lot of spiders, I got bit in the middle of the night, which was kind of freaky, but what are you gonna do? Really cute place, had everything we needed, but just could use a thorough cleaning.

  • If you want to feel like an Austinite, this is the place to be! We loved the neighborhood...walking distance to restaurants, bus stops, B-Cycle rental, whole foods(we developed a bit of an obsession). Interesting houses and trails to discover along with the overall vibe of the city & Aimee's place made us feel like cool kids! My friend was nervous climbing up to the loft since she is a stranger to grace but it was safe & sturdy. Yes there is no door to the bathroom but it's tucked away & didn't bother us in the least. The place oozes with charm & interesting bits. Loved loved the record player & all the records. Did not get to meet Aimee but she was very responsive over e-mail. I would stay here again and will recommend it to friends when they come to Austin.

  • Lovely place. Aimee's apartment is in a beautiful, quiet location. Not too far from the river for nice running trails. Walking distance to great coffee. Yes, the loft is a climb, but that can be fun. We enjoyed the use of the piano, it made for a perfect place for practice.

  • Aimee’s place was perfect! It is close enough to downtown to bike, but far enough to cut out the downtown noise. Her decorating style captures her love of music. What a great way to jump in the Austin experience! She left thoughtful touches, such as instructions for using the stereo and encouragement to play the piano. I really felt welcomed! Her sister was SUPER responsive, as was Aimee. I had a wonderful stay, and I will definitely recommend her studio to anyone visiting Austin!

  • Aimee's place was perfect for our weekend Austin getaway. I stayed with my partner, and the space was great for two people.

    - Aimee was great with communication. We had no trouble finding the place or getting in.
    - The space itself is adorable. A quaint little art studio!
    - The area is quiet and residential, with very easy access to downtown Austin. Everything is walkable - Whole Foods is super close, and we walked down to 6th Street each night. We even walked down to Rainey street and were able to take a $5 cab back.
    - Easy street parking if you have a car.

    Quirks to consider
    - The bedroom loft is precarious, so not great if you're looking for somewhere accessible or are afraid of heights. Still, great if you enjoy a place with character and don't mind a little late-night stair climbing excitement.
    - There isn't a full stove, just some burners and a toaster oven. This wasn't an issue for us, since we ate out the whole time anyway.
    - The bathroom is located behind a curtain, so there's no sound all. Just an FYI if you wanted to rent the place out with more than just your SO.

Overall, we had an excellent experience and Aimee's place was perfect for our needs. We would stay again for sure!

I'm a professional touring musician with a handful of private music students. I love traveling, thus my involvement with AirBnB. I've traveled to: India, Europe, Mexico, Indonesia, Europe and more. Barton Springs and Deep Eddy are my favorite outdoor spots in Austin and are the best fresh water swimming holes in the nation, in my opinion. I enjoy pointing people to great music venues in Austin to check out. Currently, I'm obsessed with films from the 1920's and Cormac McCarthey books.
