Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • The first thing that assured us that we made the right choice with the sun rise apartments was the warmth with which the family of Maria welcomed us. Her mother was such a nice and happy person, we felt instantly at home. (And the homemade Raki was really good! :) )

The whole building and the apts are decorated with a great sense for coziness. It was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped. They even had some spices and Greek coffee in a common room. The view from the cute balcony was beautiful!

Kalathas was a very quite place during off-season time. This whole area, including the Stavros beach, consists mostly of vacation apts, which was why it was a bit deserted during the time when we went there. And the nearby airport was from time to time a bit loud (hence the 4/5 stars).

We spent our last night in Chania and went to the restaurant Tamam, which was on a long list of recommended places Maria sent us, and we had a very, very good dinner in a restaurant with great ambiance! It was definitely the best place during our whole trip.

We are looking forward to visit again next time we are in Crete.

  • My husband and I stayed at the Sea View Studio. We had a nice time there. The apartments are clean and functional. Maria's mom was so sweet to bake us traditional Cretan treats while we were there. They also gave us a sweet gift as it was our honeymoon, and my birthday during our stay. As the restaurants in Crete are quite inexpensive, we ate out for lunch and dinner nearly every day. It was nice to have a small fridge and sink and dishes for breakfast. I couldn't imagine doing a lot of cooking in the kitchen, it just seems to small for me.

This is a great place to stay if you like community environments. To have internet, you must go down to the community internet/ tv room. This was a great way to meet other travelers and get their advice, suggestions, and hear about their experiences as well. At times, however, it was a bit inconvenient to not have internet in our room.

But the experience is worth it. Maria's parents clearly love Crete and love to share their insights and advice. Staying with them is like staying with family friends. I recommend it!

  • We had an amazing time! The apartment was perfect! Maria made sure we could arrive there without any trouble, even though she was away at the time. Her parents were very polite and helpful. This apartment is highly recommended!

  • We had such a great time at Maria's studio. Maria is the nicest person ever, its impossible not to love her!!! She did everything to make our stay easy and fun. She gave a couple of cues on what to do around the house, and about the best restaurants in town. I will definitely go back :)

  • My girlfriend and I stayed 3 nights at Maria's place and we had a really great time!

Maria and her brother are genuinely passionate hosts, who really take their time showing you the rooms and give lots of helpful insights on getting around, sights to see, restaurants etc. We even talked with Maria in German and English and felt very comfortable staying there.

The room had a great size with its own balcony overlooking a nice view on the sea and garden. We had our own covered parking space, perfect our black car! The room had a little kitchenette with complimentary olive oil etc., perfect for making breakfast on the balcony. All in all a great and recommendable stay! Thanks Maria!

    Response from Maria:

Vielen Dank noch einmal Malte! Thanks a lot Malte! We had a wonderful time with you too. I hope we will see each other soon. Viele liebe Grüße an euch beide!

  • We had a wonderful week at the SunRiseCrete. This vintage family apartment has a very friendly atmosphere and the owners make you feel at home! You can ask anything, and they will try to answer your questions in no-time! Home made cookies by Maria's mother are the best ever. The apartment is simple but it has everything you need. Airconditioned en clean. Free wifi downstairs. Kalathas sandy beach is beautiful and nearby (10 min walk) the water is very clean and has all the blue colors . If you stay longer you need a car. There is not much entertainment in the surroundings, but Chania is 15 km and be shure you visit the old venetian harbour. Maria and her brother recommended "Irene" restaurant in de next village and we had a delicious traditional Greek diner! There are a lot of beautiful beaches and places which we didn't come to see unfortunately, just ask the family and they are happy to tell you all about it!
At night the mosquitos come and try to eat you! So take some protection with you is our advise! If you want luxury, a swimmingpool and 24 / 7 staff, don't go here, but if you look for rest, beauty, friendly people, warm, clean and welcome place with a wonderful sunset, then GO! Thank you guys, we had a GREAT stay at the Sun Rise Crete apartments, Kind regards, Nicole & Renee

  • Thank to Maria's family apartment our trip appeared to be amazing. First we were very satisfied with the location of Sun Rise apt - the beautiful village called Kalathas with picturesque sunset and sunrise views and a wonderful beach, good for snorkeling. It's not very far from Chania. We liked that city a lot but for our type of rest - calm and meditating - Kalathas appeared to be more suitable. Another important point is the hosts' attitude toward their guests. Maria was very lovely during the internet communication and provided us with all the necessary information. Special thanks to Maria's brother Iosif who spent a lot of time with us, describing the most interested places of Crete (he is the very person who made us get through the Samaria gorge and now we have no regret about that). Big thanks to Maria's dad Giannis, who was also very hospitable and polite.
No doubt, would stay here again!

  • I personally think the foreign office of Crete should make both Maria and Joseph (his brother) the official ambassadors of the Island because they do such a brilliant job! I do not think we would have experience Crete for what it is, if it wasnt for their input, direct support and amazing hospitality.

The apartment is just as you see it. Its beautiful, clean and has amazing views. My wife and I are both very happy that we chose Maria's apartment for our little get away. We only wish we can return the love and favour should any of your family members choose to come across to Bristol UK some day : ) I highly recommend Crete as an island for a holiday; Kalathas as a village to stay; and more importantly Maria's Family (Sun Rise Apartment) as host for an excellent experience!

    Response from Maria:

Thanks a lot Poku for your kinds words! We hope to see you soon again.
    You are really great people!

  • We are a young couple and stayed here in June and had a wonderful time. Maria is extremely helpful and a genuine, very caring and considerate person. As soon as we arrived we were warmly welcomed by her parents who were equally lovely and very hospitable. They always had time for us when we asked them for advise on where to go, what to do.. and our privacy was respected. Maria's mum dropped us to Chania on our way home and made us some yummy cookies which was very lovely!

We had the perfect room for us with a beautiful sea and sunset view, the room has basically everything you need and Chania airport and town is within easy reach by bus/ car which made it an ideal location for us. It is the perfect base to explore Chania, away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Beach down the road, supermarket round the corner.. what more could you ask for?

The last years I live in Berlin, far away from my sunny and amazing home. I work and study here and whenever I have free time I visit my friends and family in Crete. I love travelling around the world and my moto is " I always look at the adventurous side of life" :o)
