Great little place.
We got the bungalow we requested and woke up to a view of the sea lapping against the beach. The accommodation is as described, a bungalow with air con, fan, a bed and a shower - and very reasonably priced for what it is.
This is up in a quieter part of the island, which is not to say that there isn't a lot to do in the area, Bo Phut is just down the road and it's easy to get a tuk tuk down that way and back for the Friday walking street!
There is some great food available up and down the beach as well as in the bar next to the bungalow itself.
Waking up and being able to grab breakfast definitely a big plus, and Sean is on hand to answer any questions which was super handy when we were stumbling over the new things.
Very pleasant stay in a simple but clean bungalow. Owners do everything to give you a pleasant stay. Food and drinks are very good. Bungalow 1,2,3 have seaview, 4,5,6 just behind 1,2,3.
Each bungalow has a twin bed, big fridge, flatscreen, aircon and fan. Simple toilet and shower. Highly recommanded for people who like a familiar friendly atmosphere.
Didn't stay at place as I was I'll
It was so nice! Shahin is a wonderful host, he did everything to make our stay there perfect, even if the weather was horrible all the way through. We had interesting talks with him, and if you stay there, make sure to challenge him on a round of backgammon! :)
I stayed at Island Hoppers with my brother during a 3 week trip to Thailand and Cambodia. We loved stayed in the beach and met a great group of people staying at the bungalows as well. The social atmosphere and the helpful staff really made our stat fun. One thing to note: we had an incredibly difficult time getting to the property because there is no actual address or accurate name of the property on airbnb. Furthermore, the airbnb location map showed this property in Lamai- on the other side of the island. Shahin tried to be helpful with getting us directions, but it was a pretty tough way to start there. Also of note, the owners bought and took over the property a few months ago and are still working out some of the kinks to owning and running the beach bungalows. Overall, I would recommend this place and certainly have fond memories of our trip there!
-best relaxing location not too far from chaweng
-beautiful beach sunset and beach view
-nice lounge area very open and beachy(blue and white)
-many moped rentals nearby
-cheap food~50tbh 5minutes away walking (after 7/11)
-bungalows could be cleaner and shower area small(like most places in Thailand)
-great place for budget travellers who are exploring the island for most of the day!
-would definitly recommend and return!
My friend and I became interested in David’s place hearing about the personal attention and service. Upon arriving at the property, however, we saw no one on the spot. We called David’s number and his wife told us she wasn’t aware of any booking! After half an hour we were able to get a different bungalow (though not the beachfront one that I had specifically consulted with David about earlier). As for the room, at one point we spotted cockroaches and mosquitos in the room. The bed covered in plastic was also a first for us. Although promised, we did not get our desired bungalow even on our last day and decided to sleep on the beach as it was too hot inside (there was an electrical outage across the whole island and so the air conditioning was temporarily non-functional). Also worth noting is that all the island attractions were relatively far away from where we were staying (Bang Por beach), though it’s a worthwhile trade-off if you are seeking somewhere quiet and less busy.
There were a few positive aspects of the property worth mentioning. The beach is very low-key with very few people and great sunrises and sunsets. The caretaker on site, Bupeh, was incredibly helpful booking for us a thai massage on the property beach, calling a taxi for our last day, and introducing us to the neighbor who lends scooters for a very reasonable rate. With the confusion about our booking, she even came on her day off to let us in. We were incredibly happy with her service.
All in all, however, because of the issues mentioned at the beginning we were quite disappointed with the experience. The beach is great but the bungalow concerns made it hard to enjoy it fully.
If you want a quiet, relaxing few days away from the madding crowds, consider this little resort. There are 6 bungalows here, three of which front the beach, so if you want a good view, be sure to ask for one in the front. You can't be bothered by sand in your bed, or geckos slithering along the walls or tiny ants--you're right on the beach and a little bit of nature is bound to work it's way into your room. The rooms are small and very basic...the bath has one of those open showers, no stall....it's not a luxury resort, but it's a bargain for a beachfront view. Each bungalow has a little front porch--the ones in front each have a hammock and two chairs.
I'm not sure what you need to do to arrange to be picked up at the airport. The new owner, Leonora, transported guests to the resort, but I wasn't offered that option when I booked, even though I asked about the best way to get there from the airport. Maybe you need to ask directly for this service, or maybe these guests paid extra for it. There's a bar/restaurant right on site, which is very convenient. A Thai restaurant next door provides the Thai menu items, and they're delicious. A Western menu is also available. The bartender/server, Pupay, is one of the best features of this place. She is a joy and always offers a warm smile and greeting when you enter the restaurant. There's a live band at the bar most Friday nights.
There are several very good restaurants within walking distance, but other than a 7/11 a pharmacy, a laundry, and a couple of massage places, there's not much else in the little town of BangPor. Nathon is a 10 minute song taew ride away for 50 baht and there are shops there. Not sure about any night life, but you will have to go outside of BangPor for it.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would do it again.
Had a great time here. Just what I was after. A cozy little place to lay my head, attached to a great local bar and restaurant. David and Janet did a great job of making me feel at home, and have a ton of local knowledge and contacts. They where able to help me hire a scooter, although they actually let me borrow there's, as well as let me know good places to visit. They have kayak's to use and the whole thing is right on the beach.
It's peaceful and quiet, which was why I went there, and Bang Por beach is great for kids. It's shallow and warm, with little current, so perfect for a trip back with my family. I cannot express how pleasant my whole experience was here. Beautiful views, great bar, David and Janet where great, as well as there staff, cracking locals, and Koh Samui itself.
Thanks for helping out so much guys, and I will definitely be returning with the family ASAP. See you again soon...
