Kelly was really a wonderful host. I am making this review all about her, as she deserves five stars, Casa Louie only maybe 3 1/2 stars. She met us at check-in with a nice fruit basket, beers in the fridge and a great attitude. We knew we could call on her for anything during our stay. There was a problem with the wifi and she took care of it promptly. She responded quickly to emails and we really felt we made a friend.
The apartment is off the tourist track in a real neighborhood, but only 1 1/2 blocks from the main square of San Miguel. The neighbors were very friendly and we always felt safe. The apartment was clean and spacious, good wifi connection, plenty of towels and kitchen stuff. The back room with sink and clothesline was great for washing clothes and cleaning dive gear. The ceiling fans worked well enough that with the cross ventilation, we never used the a/c. The fridge is big and clean. There is a stove with oven we didn't use and a toaster oven we did use. Everything was very clean. There is plenty of closet space and the bathroom is large with storage too.
The bed is a double, which means it is really for one person. It's comfortable enough, but very small for two people. The apartment decor is like "Single Guy, No Girlfriend." No personality at all. The TV is what, a 13" tube type? The furniture is spartan and sparse but clean. The water is hot, but the shower head is a dribbler, we thought about replacing it at our cost, but lived with it.
For the price, location, size and with Kelly in the mix, it was a great value and has our recommendation. We come to Cozumel to dive and it served as a place to sleep and kick back between meals, we didn't really cook there, just made sandwiches. The wifi is powerful in the apartment, fine for editing and uploading photos and videos.
If we really need to economize on the next trip, we would stay here again, hard to beat the price, especially with Kelly as part of the package. "Cozumel Rocks" rocks!
Great place to stay for an extended visit! My boyfriend and I felt right at home, and Kelly was really great showing us where everything was and giving us tips on where to eat and how to get around. It's very easy to get to from the ferry, and everything you need is easily within walking distance. Plus, it's an excellent rate, so you can actually afford to do stuff on the island without spending all your money on a hotel! The apartment is very breezy, but the air conditioner works well if you need it (we only used it on one especially humid and hot night.) There's plenty of purified water and the wireless internet is generally reliable-- we only had one outage, but that was an anomaly and seemed to be a server issue, not anything on our end. (There were a few brief local power outages, but that clearly wasn't within our control.) We loved it here, and would happily come back-- it's got everything you need and nothing you don't!
We stayed for one month in this spacious, tidy, centrally located apartment.
As promised, close to the ferry and the main square. If you're looking for a San Miguel apartment experience at a very reasonable price, book it!
Amenities just as described. Apartment stayed cool with the cross breeze. Lots of water provided when we arrived, and when we needed more, Kelly brought it over for just a small fee. The internet connection never failed us (daily work & VPN use), and was actually among the fastest we've had.
If you haven't traveled through Mexico, expect local constraints - don't flush paper down toilet, light stove with matches, turn water heater on before you need it... but we didn't find anything to be a problem or an inconvenience! Oh, and definitely get out and enjoy some of the local food and the ocean.
We look forward to our travels bringing us back here, and would happily stay at Casa Louie again!
Kelly picked me up at the ferry. I had a lot of luggage coming from Alaska, so that was a real help. The studio casa Louie is just 3 blocks from the ferry, but she picked me up anyway. Pirata was not with her, so I didn't get to me the dog. The studio is very spacious and airy. The morning sun comes through the bedroom window. Kelly directed me to the big grocery, just 3 blocks away, along with a couple of great places to dine, where the locals go. My favorite was La Parilla. They serve this incredible tortilla soup with chicken for 27p. I also had the beef brocheta for 70p. She also referred me to a great little car rental for $30us/day called ISIS. Kelly had cold beer in the refer for me upon arrival! What a nice touch, because I arrived on Sunday, and the stores sell no beer or liquor after 3pm on Sunday. I rent rooms for a living in Alaska, so I know what it's like to deal with people and and answer questions. Kelly and her assistant Daniela are easy to deal with and casa Louie is a great deal in Cozumel...saludos! Norm Smith, Haines, Alaska 99827 .Feb 2013
I stayed in Casa Louie for about a week and it was great. It's just a few minutes' walk to the square in the center of town and the ferry dock, so the location is perfect.
Kelly was great to work with, too. She knows everything there is to know about the island, and she's put together a binder full of maps and other information and it's there in the house.
There are high-speed ceiling fans in both the bedroom and the main room, and there's an AC unit in the bedroom. Bathroom was nice and clean. No problems there. Overall, the place was also bigger than I thought it would be, which was nice.
I'd definitely stay there again. Thanks Kelly!
