The Space

In the heart of the city, in a surprisingly peaceful and green neighbourhood lies this gorgeous, spacious apartment, 90 square metres (=approximately 970 square feet). Built in 1886, the apartment has been completely renovated up to modern standards, with respect for the historical details, just this year. The whole house is an official Monument. The unique combination of old school charm and 21st centrury comfort in this apartment will please you.

The apartment has a modern kitchen, cable television (featuring over 200 major international stations), fast wifi, jacuzzi, washing machine and dryer. It has a marvelous view on the Amsterdam Royal Zoo and lies in a street with several cafe's and restaurants, which offer a wide range of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I will be happy to point you to places of interest. Withing walking distance from the apartment lie the Hortus Botanicus, the Jewish Historical Museum, the Amsterdam Hermitage Museum, the Rembrant House, the National Maritime Museum, the Opera, the Red Light District, and many more points of interest.

Famous areas nearby for nightlife are popular Rembrandtplein and trendy Nieuwmarkt. You'll find more quiet and upmarket options along the Amstel River.
Closeby options for kids: the Zoo and its playgrounds, the 'kids paradise' TunFun, and Nemo Science Museum for Children.

Tram and subway are nearby. From Amsterdam Central Station, tram 9 will take you to 100 metres from this apartment (get off at stop "Zoo").

Also, since Amsterdam is the world's biking capital, bikes may be the fastest and most flexible way to get around. I will be happy to point you towards several close by bike rental places.

  • The flat was as described, in a typical Amsterdamer house from the 19th century !
Quiet location, opposite of the zoo, outside of the busy and touristic town, but easy to join with the tram (direct from Central station) or walking. Feeling very comfortable in this very large accomodation !

We didn't meet our host, but her mother was there to meet us and to show us the flat.

  • The apartment was lovely and roomy. We really relaxed there. We opened the very tall french doors onto the small balcony, and the breeze poured in. Just enough to cool us down. The apartment is conveniently situated for everything. The tram which takes you into many interesting areas and the central station is just up the road. Maybe 100 metres. Big bathroom with a very good shower. the toilet was separate, but just a tad small. The bedrooms were well separated, one on each end of the apartment. The kitchen was huge with a very big dining table, and big comfortable chairs. The lounge was also big, and there were 2 very big and comfortable couches. Stairs are very steep, and awkward for luggage, but we were assisted with it when we arrived. We were sorry we didn't meet Dorine, but we were welcomed by Peter. Would recommend, and we would stay again if we were welcome.

  • Listing was in a perfect location for us. Right across from the zoo and close access to the Tram. Big apartment. We had 4 adults and two children and still had room to spare.

  • Dorine was answering my messages always very quickly. She was so nice to allow me to pick up the keys already in the morning before checkin time. I had to pick up the keys with her mother.
The appartment is on the 1st floor and you go very steep stairs up to reach it, which is typical in Amsterdam. The appartment entrance is smaller than I had expected it, but in general it's enough space for 3 people. We had twin beds in one room and one double bed in the other room, which was nice. If more people come, there are couches in the living room where you could sleep too.
The appartment was clean but is much older and more used than it looks on the pictures. It's in a nice location: right behind the zoo. Not too far from the central station to walk.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Dorine's apartment. The apartment is cosy and well decorated, as showed in the pictures. We liked drinking the morning coffee on the balcony (cover picture). The neighbourhood is charming and Dorine has posted great suggestions for restaurants/cafés (tried some of them). It is really easy to travel in the city, using tram #9 or by foot. Great walks along the canals nearby. We liked this experience more than our recent stay in a hotel near central station. We recommend this apartment without a doubt.

self-employed tax lawyer
I am a tax lawyer, living in Amsterdam with my two daughters Florence and Josephine. Have just incorporated my own tax advisory firm ((website hidden)). Love to drink wine, play tennis, cook, hang out with my friends. I have studied at the University of Amsterdam and know the city by heart. I have done a fair amount of home swaps and discovered AirBNB when I went on a biking holiday and wanted to spend a few days in Copenhagen. The apartment that I rent out is filled with American and Uk literature. My most favourite city is New York, but I also love Helsinki and Barcelona.
