About this listing
In the heart of the city, in a surprisingly peaceful and green neighbourhood lies this gorgeous, spacious apartment, 90 square metres (=approximately 970 square feet). Built in 1886, the apartment has been completely renovated up to modern standards, with respect for the historical details, just this year. The whole house is an official Monument. The unique combination of old school charm and 21st centrury comfort in this apartment will please you.
The apartment has a modern kitchen, cable television (featuring over 200 major international stations), fast wifi, jacuzzi, washing machine and dryer. It has a marvelous view on the Amsterdam Royal Zoo and lies in a street with several cafe's and restaurants, which offer a wide range of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I will be happy to point you to places of interest. Withing walking distance from the apartment lie the Hortus Botanicus, the Jewish Historical Museum, the Amsterdam Hermitage Museum, the Rembrant House, the National Maritime Museum, the Opera, the Red Light District, and many more points of interest.
Famous areas nearby for nightlife are popular Rembrandtplein and trendy Nieuwmarkt. You'll find more quiet and upmarket options along the Amstel River.
Closeby options for kids: the Zoo and its playgrounds, the 'kids paradise' TunFun, and Nemo Science Museum for Children.
Tram and subway are nearby. From Amsterdam Central Station, tram 9 will take you to 100 metres from this apartment (get off at stop "Zoo").
Also, since Amsterdam is the world's biking capital, bikes may be the fastest and most flexible way to get around. I will be happy to point you towards several close by bike rental places.
i don't have many rules. The apartment is set up in such a way that I do not need to have many rules. You can smoke on the ballcony, which is completely rain free.
I have done many home swaps with my own apartment, where I live, so I am very used to acepting guests and I have severla maps and other information of interesteting things in the neighborhood, bike rentals, etc.
We loved Dorine's apartment! Probably the nicest place we stayed on our trip. Very clean and comfortable, great location close to the tram, beautifully decorated , comfy beds. Great communication from Dorine, as well.
We will definitely stay here again next time around!
I must confess to having used Dorines apartment for a few years now, on a number of business trips to Amsterdam, but I like to leave an up to date review. Put simply, the apartment is beautiful and the neighbourhood is beautiful to match. The pictures dont really show you the HUGE sense of space in the apartment, very high ceilings and period features, wonderful bathroom, lovely little balcony. Wifi, TV and ipod dock all taken care of in the very relaxing living room, with beautiful full height windows. The area is a short walk to the Damrak (approx 20 mins) and has 2 excellent local cafes for breakfast and a new restaurant almost opposite which is very highly regarded. Good tram service at the end of the road.... A taxi from central Station will cost around 12 euros (Always use a TCA taxi when in Amsterdam) and Dorine is close by and has always been great at communicating. Not much more to say really other than I'm always left thinking I'd like to transport this home to London! And when it is time to go home, you'll not just miss the city, you'll miss the apartment too!! :-) thanks as ever Dorine.
We liked the location in a charming neighborhood across from the Zoo. It was quite close to the tram, one line of which circled around the inner city to the Central Station. The opposite direction on the street went to an bridge over a canal. The apartment itself was on the second floor up about 30 narrow steps which could be a disadvantage if one is traveling with a lot of luggage. The apartment is spacious except for the front bedroom which barely had room for two beds (no dresser just a closet). We had to leave suit cases in the living/kitchen area. The back bedroom looked over a lovely garden.
sorry to hear Charles. Just for the record the apartment is one the first floor. This is public knowledge and can be verified with the city of Amsterdam. The apartment is a monumental building dating from 1886 and the there are 20 not so narrow steps (by Amsterdam standards, the stairs are quite generous).
Had a great time very pleased with everything, great location, walking distance to centre, will use apartment again in near future.
Dorine was the perfect host again, even with all my requests beforehand :) apologies if my husbands friends were loud this year! Definitely book this place, dont think twice :)
Handig!
Nice and comfortable flat in a nice and quiet neibourhood. Well connected by tram and near the center. Beds and sheets allow you to rest very well. For our kids the bathroom was wonderful to take a bath.

About the Host, Dorine
I am a tax lawyer, living in Amsterdam with my two daughters Florence and Josephine. Have just incorporated my own tax advisory firm ((website hidden)). Love to drink wine, play tennis, cook, hang out with my friends. I have studied at the University of Amsterdam and know the city by heart.
I have done a fair amount of home swaps and discovered AirBNB when I went on a biking holiday and wanted to spend a few days in Copenhagen.
The apartment that I rent out is filled with American and Uk literature.
My most favourite city is New York, but I also love Helsinki and Barcelona.
