This is a fantastic place to stay! Hitomi is a great cook and she is like a mom! Everything is so sweet and I definitely recommend you to stay here!
Despite the cold winter, it wan an amazing experience to spend in Kyoto with Hitomi and family. Not only she is an amazing cooker, but she also offers the most warming welcome in Kansai ! Thank you Hitomi !
Hitomi was so sweet and very welcoming! She provided us with dinner and even breakfast options in the morning. Eating at her home was a great way to get an authentic Japanese food experience, which me and my sister were looking for. I would definitely suggest staying here for others looking for an authentic Kyoto experience in Japan. Her house is located 1 hour from the major temples by train/bus but only a 15 minute train ride to Fushimi-inari Shrine -- which was beautiful!
I had a very pleasant stay at Hitomi's place. It is especially convenient for visit Nara, and other places around Kyoto (Fushimi Inari). Hitomi provided insteresting advice about where to go in Kyoto and other places. Uji has some interesting sightseeings too.
I decided to stay at Hitomi's house to kick off my travels in Japan, and I think it was one of the best decisions of my trip. I stayed only 3 weeknights, but I felt like I was staying with some relatives or family friends. The Muneoka residence is very welcoming, and I think Hitomi summarised her place much better than I ever could - "My home is your home". If I ever return to Kyoto, I certainly would consider staying here again.
There are instructions all around the house and little cards to tell you how to say common phrases in Japanese, which I found helpful and very cute! Oh and I agree with all the other reviews about Hitomi's cooking, it was delicious.
I wholeheartedly recommend staying at Hitomi's house if you want to get to know some lovely folk - the experience to me was priceless and something even the best hotel would not be able to provide.
Hitomi-san was a wonderful host with a great sense of humour. We enjoyed our stay immensely. She cooked us a wonderful local dinner and we met and chatted with fellow travelers over dinner. The house is an authentic Japanese household on a hill with views overlooking Kyoto. We were luck in that our room had a balcony the had this great view.
Thank you for hosting us.
Hitomi is a wonderful and generous host. She really opened her home to us and cooked us some delicious meals. Christmas was extraordinarily fun as her daughter and friends celebrated with us and another guest. I feel like we've made some new friends and living like a local is a good experience. Hitomi is very helpful in giving advice for places to go. Be aware that check in is after 6pm as she and her daughter both work. The location is also highly convenient. Only 230 yen to travel to Kyoto station.
Had a great stay at Hitomi's house. It's simple, but comfortable, and the food is great. And you're free to come and go as you please, so you're not restricted in any way despite living in someone's home. A plus for me was that it is in a very pleasant ordinary residential neighbourhood, that is very convenient for sightseeing in Kyoto, but also a bit out of the city so it's a little more relaxed. Close to Uji, too, which is a great place to visit.
Hitomi-san's place was fantastic. She makes you feel right at home and is very courteous and attentive to your needs. I would definitely go back again to her place.
We only stayed in the house for two nights. But as we didn’t noticed that the check in is only possible at 6pm. We arrived at the station of Kyoto and all the big lockers were taken. We tried contacting Hitomi, but because she doesn’t speak English we couldn’t count with her help and we had to wait for her to go back to the house so we could get in and drop our luggage. It was a long wait though…
The house Is close to Kohata station, the rooms are simple, Hitomi and her family are friendly and we quite enjoyed our dinner. In the house, you will get access to maps, guides and a good internet connection ( great to plan your days ). Its likely you will share the house with more guests and we were lucky to stay with another woman from Israel who was also very friendly.
