Hitomi was a great host. Her food was delicious and her house is lovely. The place is really close to a JR station which can go back to Kyoto in 15 min or to Nara which was helpful.
Uji and Fushimi Inari are also really close by from the station.
The room was comfortable and Hitomi was usually there to answer any questions.
It's a bit hard to find. But as long as you "keep left" down the one road you'll be fine. And did I mention her food was delicious?
My friend and myself had a nice convenient stay at Hitomi's place. Place was clean, orderly, and quiet. Hitomi gave us advices for sightseeing. I recommend Hitomi's place!
Convenient location. The two meals provided are also a plus.
The location is close to Kyoto (few train stops) on Nara line. Even if Hitomi doesn't speak English she is very nice and you can communicate with her quite well. She is always very nice and very willing to help.
I requested to check in early in the morning but there's some miscommunication. However, Hitomi resolved my issue well by allowing me to store my luggage and a quick shower with breakfast that made the rest of my day as smooth as silk. The place is a bit of walk (10 minutes approx) from JR station but that's a walk you'll enjoy strolling around a nice Japanese suburb neighbourhood. From the JR station, you could practically reach all the places of interest of eastern Kyoto (you could also reach Nara from the same line with about 30 minutes ride), with the rest of Kyoto accessible by a change of train in Kyoto station.
Hitomi's English might not be very great but don't worry as her daughter could speak English very well. Did i mention the room was very huge? And though i didn't took any dinner with Hitomi, the breakfast she made was very good!
Overall, this is a great place to stay and you could experience a truly authentic Japanese lifestyle and neighbourhood to the maximum!
This is a fantastic place to stay! Hitomi is a great cook and she is like a mom! Everything is so sweet and I definitely recommend you to stay here!
Despite the cold winter, it wan an amazing experience to spend in Kyoto with Hitomi and family. Not only she is an amazing cooker, but she also offers the most warming welcome in Kansai ! Thank you Hitomi !
Hitomi was so sweet and very welcoming! She provided us with dinner and even breakfast options in the morning. Eating at her home was a great way to get an authentic Japanese food experience, which me and my sister were looking for. I would definitely suggest staying here for others looking for an authentic Kyoto experience in Japan. Her house is located 1 hour from the major temples by train/bus but only a 15 minute train ride to Fushimi-inari Shrine -- which was beautiful!
I had a very pleasant stay at Hitomi's place. It is especially convenient for visit Nara, and other places around Kyoto (Fushimi Inari). Hitomi provided insteresting advice about where to go in Kyoto and other places. Uji has some interesting sightseeings too.
I decided to stay at Hitomi's house to kick off my travels in Japan, and I think it was one of the best decisions of my trip. I stayed only 3 weeknights, but I felt like I was staying with some relatives or family friends. The Muneoka residence is very welcoming, and I think Hitomi summarised her place much better than I ever could - "My home is your home". If I ever return to Kyoto, I certainly would consider staying here again.
There are instructions all around the house and little cards to tell you how to say common phrases in Japanese, which I found helpful and very cute! Oh and I agree with all the other reviews about Hitomi's cooking, it was delicious.
I wholeheartedly recommend staying at Hitomi's house if you want to get to know some lovely folk - the experience to me was priceless and something even the best hotel would not be able to provide.
