Dear Valued guests,

The Balinese Hindus do not celebrate the coming of the new year of Saka calendar with lavish party; they celebrate it with meditation instead. No activities are allowed to take place. These mandatory religious prohibitions include no pleasure (amati lelangon), no traffic (amati lelungan), no fire (amati geni) and no work (amati karya).
This year, Nyepi Day falls on 9th March 2016.

There will be no traffic on that day in the whole Bali island

We strongly recommend staying at Gusde house. The villa was well equipped and clean. But the service provided by Wayan and Dharma and the rest of the team was fantastic.

A little bit off the beaten path, this hidden gem is worth giving a try. I stayed in this villa along with my wife and two of our closest friends for three nights/4 days in January 2015. This property is nestled away on a plot of land inhabited by a large family just a short 10 min drive from downtown Ubud. With its two king-sized bedrooms on separate floors, there was plenty of room for us to spend quality time as a group in the outdoor patio area or perfect adult-sized pool or have couples time in our individual rooms. The facilities are cleaned and sheets changed daily and bottled water is provided with compliment by your host. Breakfast is served every morning at 8am. Breakfast includes fresh fruit juice like watermelon or papaya, a tray of assorted fruits, and an entree (most likely Nasi Goreng or banana pancakes). Coffee is served upon request and is Balinese style (instant). Everything is absolutely delicious and the service by the staff is prompt and enjoyable. You are greeted with smiles at all times. The staff truly made us feel at home. We did not have the pleasure of meeting Putri but Gusde, her husband, was our main host and he was delightful. All of the staff, as well, were quick to help us and provide anything we needed/desired. The individual I truly wish to brag on, however, is Wayan. Wayan will quickly become your best friend in Bali. He was the first face to greet us when we arrived and was one of the last faces we saw when we left. Some may be discouraged by the fact that this house is not on a main strip of downtown Ubud but don't worry about that. Wayan and the staff will take care of you. Within our first 10 minutes at the villa, we were provided with a local cell phone with Wayan's cell phone programmed in. The AirBnB site advertises multiple shuttles offered into and from downtown Ubud through the villa. Downtown, we'd meet at Bali Pesto, a centrally-located restaurant connected to the villa, to get a ride. However, since the villa wasn't totally full, there was more flexibility with when we could arrange transport. We simply had to let Wayan know when we were ready or call him from downtown and we would have a ride within 10 min. Wayan also took us out on our first day in Ubud for a personalized tour of some of the things that make Ubud great like traditional Balinese dance, a local waterfall, and Monkey Forest. He was quick to talk about his wife and daughters and answer any question you had about Balinese culture or his life/family. Of the three places I stayed in Bali, this is by far the best place simply because the staff there makes you feel like family. When I make it back to Ubud, this will be the place where we stay. I highly recommend it.

Pretty house tucked in a pretty village near Pengosekan. Away from the crowds, but still very accessible to Ubud. Gusde and Wayan were very kind and helpful during my stay. Driving, arranging tours, solving problems. I would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay at this villa for our honeymoon. We were there for three nights. The villa is absolutely beautiful and furnished in a very tasteful and traditional way. The pool and outdoor area is fantastic as well. Breakfast was cooked for us each morning and tasted great. We love nasi goreng, the Indonesian special rice dish! Yum! The best part of the villa though is the manager and driver, Wayan. Wayan drove us everywhere we wanted to go for reasonable prices. You really don't want to drive or ride a moped yourself in Bali! Crazy roads! Wayan took us to a few places we had already decided we wanted to go to (Monkey Forest, Elephant Safari Park, volcano climb at Mount Batur, and hot springs), as well as recommending places to us. One place we really liked which he recommended was a coffee plantation. You got to taste many kinds of tea and coffee and get a tour of the grounds. Wayan's English was very good, and he was nice to talk to. We never met Putri at the villa, but we did meet the guard, the cook, and the cook's assistant - all very nice. Someone would come and clean the villa each day while we were out, and it was very well cleaned. The only issue we had during our stay was a very loud, constant noise which kept us up our first night there. We found out the next morning that it was the water heater connected to our villa. Wayan showed us how it could be turned off at night so that the noise stops. Then we would just turn it back on in the morning when we wanted hot water to shower - it was very easy. I do recommend that the owners fix the root of the problem however. (I am thinking it might be a new thing, as other reviewers haven't mentioned it.) The grounds of the villa are absolutely beautiful, surrounded by rice fields. I loved reading a book and just staring out at the scenery while I relaxed. As other reviewers have mentioned, the villa is a 5 minute drive outside of Ubud. With Wayan there, this is not a problem at all, and the villa is a welcome respite from the hectic city. I would definitely recommend a stay at this villa if you will be in Ubud!

Great place to stay. Even nicer than the pictures, and Putri is so so nice. The location is great, right near Ubud yet so so relaxing and peace full. You will never want to leave! Wayan the manager and Putri make a great team and you will be happy you stayed.

The villa was so beautiful and Putri's staff was warm and welcoming. Wayan, our driver, took us around for the day and was a great resource into Balinese people and culture. We were so sad to only stay 1 night. Definitely not enough time.

We had a lovely time staying at Gusde House! My wife and I booked the 2 bedroom villa with private pool and were very happy with pretty much every aspect of our stay. The pool is a good size and very private, the location is around 7 or 8 minutes from the centre of Ubud (depending on traffic of course), and the staff are brilliant and incredibly helpful. We opted for breakfast by the pool most days, and the staff kindly prepared us a vegan version of Nasi Goreng with fruit, fresh juice and coffee. The villa operates a shuttle that goes to central Ubud (Bali Pesto Cafe - a nice spot for a drink before heading home) which we used most days, it was very convenient. On any occasion where the shuttle times didn't suit us they offer a paid ride in/out which is also a great option to have (although it's worth noting the prices are very slightly higher than on the listing). Darmawan and Wayan in particular made our stay extra special by going out of their way to help us with every need, thanks to them and all the rest of the staff, we look forward to visiting again!
