Caroline was so helpful and warm. As we prepared for our big family trip with 7 of us, she was wonderful with quick and informative replies. Upon arrival, she helped us get settled both in the home and in the area. For us, the wonderful, large living space was ideal. It allowed us all to come together at the end of the day to talk about what we saw and experienced. The rest of the apartments layout provided privacy for each family to have time alone.
We found the listing to be extremely representative of the space. And the location was truly ideal. Great grocery store within a few blocks; amazing fruit market, several bakeries and cafes all around the corner. Close metro stop, great walking, close to monuments, and extremely safe. We ranged from 10 yrs old to 79 and everyone was happy.
Just spent the most amazing time in Paris. The condo was perfectly situated, within walking distance of all the landmarks and the river. There are grocery stores, pastry shops and a meat market within a block of the condo. The best meal I had in Paris was the shrimp at Le Basilique, a restaurant recommended by Caroline, within three blocks of the condo. Caroline and her family were fabulous hosts and if you are lucky you'll get to meet her charming son Benjamin. Even the Neighbours were nice (hi Alice). If you are headed to Paris this is the place to stay. If I am ever lucky enough to visit Paris again, I will be staying here. I'd never used airbnb before and I was concerned but everything was perfect. Thanks Caroline !
We had a delightful 9 night stay in Caroline's apartment. Caroline and her husband were gracious and very informative about the apartment, places to see and provided very nice recommendations for restaurants, bakeries, etc. We had 7 adults staying there and there was plenty of room for everyone. Having a large living and dining area was so important to us and it worked out great. The apartment was very Parisian. The bedrooms probably could use a little renovation but that only added to the charm of being in the home of someone who actually lives here! Caroline was very polite, friendly and made us feel so welcome. The location is wonderful. It is very near metro stops and within walking distance of many sights and restaurants, shops, etc. We loved being there and enjoyed our stay. Caroline was always available if we needed anything but respected our privacy. Thanks for a great visit.
We stayed 4 nights in this apartment. It is really as nice as it looks on the pictures. There is plenty of space for 4 adults and 4 children. The rooms hve a lot of charme and the big living room makes it easy for two families to stay there. Caroline and Nicolas are very helpful in everything. They tell you where to find restaurants that suit for families and are not too expensive. The location is absolute central. There is supermarket, a bakery and a patisserie right next to the house. You have a small bistro in the neighbouring house. We had a great time and would definitely go there again.
Here on Rue de Grenelle you are just a few minutes walk from the Seine, 20 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower and 25 mins from the fabulous shopping area around St Germain des Pres.
The main central room is its greatest feature. Sitting by the window watching locals down below is fascinating. Of the apartment's 8 or 9 rooms, the main bedroom is the second strongest feature. It's spacious with two sets of classic French windows and huge shower/bath.
We didn't stay in much, but when indoors our 3 kids and one other (eldest child's best mate) there was plenty to do: an Apple Mac computer, Scalextric, Drum Kit, etc.
The whole complex is in two halves. In one half is the main central living area, the main bedroom, and a standard toilet room. Then there is the other half, through a separate door, which is the kids section made up of a storage area, a long narrow hallway, a bathroom and four bedrooms.
Three of the bedrooms on this side are inter-connected so if in the furthest bedroom you have to walk through two other bedrooms to get in or out. These rooms are best suited for kids as they don't tend to mind people traipsing in and out of each others rooms.
The final bedroom has a bit more privacy. So if two families stay here that would be the natural second main bedroom for the parents. However, there is a rectangle hole in the wall, a sort of serving hatch, which links the middle kids bedroom to this bedroom. A bit strange but not a big deal. If just kids in this half of the apartment, the serving hatch is a bit of a feature, something fun to mess about with.
There are two bathrooms, one in the middle of the kids side, and one next to the main living area. Both bathrooms are good and well maintained.
Overall I was delighted to stay here. What's great about Airbnb is that you learn more about the city you visit in just a few days than you would if you spend weeks there based in a hotel.
As has been previously mentioned by other reviewers some parts are in need of a bit of a makeover, I'm sure Caroline the owner won't mind me saying that. If I'm being even more picky there could be more room for storage and less of a feeling that the owners have bobbed out just for the period of your visit.
The American style fridge and Nespresso machine are hugely positive features. The furniture is a funny mix, there are some wonderful old pieces and some modern cheap stuff. It's certainly eclectic. Parts of the decor are a little distressed and the balance of the two halves of the apartment is by far from perfect. But there is an overall positive effect. What this apartment does really well is it captures the spirit of Paris, what many call "shabby chic".
Great place for as many as 8 adults! Two complete bathrooms and a massive living area makes Caroline's apartment a great place to stay. Walking distance to train station and only about 30 minutes walk to the Eiffel Tower.
Places to eat late at night were hard to come by but a short walk would bring you to some eateries. Convenience store, bakery and pharmacy just downstairs also.
Caroline was also organised a taxi for us back to airport!
Caroline was a pleasure to deal with and I would recommend her place.
Caroline and Nicholas were wonderful hosts, always ready with advice and knowledge of the Paris area, its restaurants, and the many questions asked by members of our group of nine--in English or in French. As they live in the same building, they were ready at hand, and very attentive. The fifth-floor apartment is spacious, served by a lift, and quite sufficient for our large group. It is centrally located, two blocks from the Seine, between the Invalides and the Assemblee Nationale, a 7-minute walk to the Tuileries, another few minutes to the Louvre. Caroline and Nicholas keep a list of nearby restaurants that they themselves have best enjoyed, and the two that we tried were well worth the short walk. Caroline and Nicholas were quite ready to talk about our interests in Paris, and also respected our privacy--a perfect balance. The apartment's location is well served by the Metro (at the Varenne stop), though we found it convenient to walk to the various museums, to the Marais, and even to the Luxembourg Gardens. The Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe are each three or four Metro stops away. Across the street, there is a café whose very friendly owner serves a casual menu, and there is an excellent patisserie down the street. For cooking one's own meals in the apartment's kitchen, there is a small grocery store and a produce market also within a block. (A wonderful surprise: food prices in France, even for high-quality foods, are extremely low. It must be that free-trade agreement!)
All of us were happy with this apartment, and with our hosts, and I highly recommend this rental.
We had a fabulous time at Caroline's house. It is the perfect location for exploring Paris. Lots of space and living areas , plenty of room for the 8 of us. Kids toys were available for our children to enjoy. Excellent patisseries and shops close by. Free wifi and use of computer was a huge bonus!
Caroline was the perfect host, extremely helpful and friendly.
Would definitely return!
the house is nice and very confortable for one or two families. we were 8 and we feel at home in the huge living af caroline.
Shock and horror at filth of apt on arrival. The lounge was the only decent room. The bathrooms were the dirtiest I have ever seen and the furniture everywhere was filthy. We were all appalled at the state of the apt. Beds were awful. I was so embarrassed at having booked this apt. On our last night we had no electricity, the trip switch had tripped and fortunately I checked it and was able to fix it. Caroline's housekeeper entered the apt. each day to put on a wash and tumbledry whilst we were out. That is totally unacceptable. She was nice & friendly but overall we were all disgusted with the place. It is central and a good location but I would not recommend it to anyone. The kids came into the apt also when we were out to get toys!!! How dare she allow this to happen when paying guests are staying there. The bed linen and towels were of the poorest quality. Never again. I am still mortified for having booked this place. The mirrors, ceilings and doors in bathrooms horrifically dirty. How they can live there is incomprehensible to us all. Thank you. Jane
