  • My family really enjoyed this spacious retreat. We had everything we needed including privacy, quiet and beautiful surroundings. The location was very convenient for getting around the West side of the island. Thanks for the great get away!

  • Amazing place to stay - felt right at home as soon as we arrived. It was the perfect setting for our 8 days in Hawaii for the Ironman. You're staying on an avocado farm with lemon and lime trees everywhere. And the view of the ocean is spectacular. Could not have asked for anything more!!!

  • We had an absolutely fantastic stay here! A total of 5 of us stayed here for almost a full week, and it was perfect for our needs. The place is even bigger than it looks in the photos, and we felt like we had a more authentic experience than if we stayed in one of the resorts. From the moment I booked this place, I bombarded host Mandi with tons of questions to help us figure out our trip, and she was always quick to reply and give excellent suggestions. Also, she and her husband Chad were available while we were there to help make sure our experience was the best. They also let us borrow beach chairs, towels, and a cooler for our beach days, and the grill came in super handy when we decided to BBQ on the Fourth of July.

The location is great. About 30 minutes from Kona and the airport, you can easily get north if you want (it's just an hour to the amazing White Sand beaches in the north). And we really wanted to experience the whole island, so it put us in a great position to get to South Point, Green Sand Beach, as well as Black Sand Beach and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. But best of all, we were only 5 miles from Kealakekua Bay, which on our first full day we got to snorkel with wild spinner dolphins (easily a highlight of the entire trip). If you like snorkeling, this place has one of the best locations on the island with a ton of famous bays right around the corner.

If you stay here, you won't be disappointed. A truly great place, friendly hosts, and we couldn't have asked for more for our unforgettable stay on Big Island!

  • My husband, daughter (2 yr), and I stayed for 3 nights at Lani Kai Gardens and Farm. It was very private, nice and quiet, and it was beautiful. We picked up some avocados and had limes and lemons waiting for us to sample, which is probably my favorite part of the experience. I am from Oregon in berry country and I am a big gardener. Experiencing their orchards, the view of the ocean, and driving around the area was a visual delight. The fruit tasted better than any I'd had.
The bedroom was very large. A pretty firm bed, but we like firm and slept happily. Warm days that cooled off at night. We moved a twin mattress to our bedroom for our daughter as it was a bit darker in there and she had the habit of waking before dawn. We loved the bbq grill. We did get to meet Chad briefly, but Mandi and her parents were either away or unavailable as they have lives and jobs. I was sad not to meet them or get a tour, but really we were enjoying ourselves very much. I stayed during my birthday and it was a perfect birthday treat. My daughter watched Lilo and Stitch there for the first time, and again many times since (today in fact...). She loved the geckos and the cats.
I would easily recommend this to friends and family. This cottage is very large and accommodating. It is more than enough for our traveling purposes. We felt pampered. My husband didn't know what to expect and kept going on about how wonderful it was.
This was one of our favorite place on our island hopping adventures. Thank you Lani Kai Farm!!!

  • South Kona Cottage was a great place to stay. The garden and farm provided us with lots of avacados, tangerines, limes and lemons. It is quiet and peaceful with beautiful surroundings. Mandi has the kitchen stocked with everything you could possibly need and the cottage is spacious and comfortable. Would definately come back to stay and highly recommend this BandB.

My name is Mandi, and I am a part of the team that lives and works here at Lani Kai Farm and Gardens. Together with my husband, Chad, and my parents, Randy and Ruth. we started Lani Kai Gardens in an effort to simplify our lives, combining our talents and time to living closer to the land and enjoying and caring for this amazing piece of paradise. When we found this property in 2010 we could see its beauty and potential but it needed help. The farm had not been worked in many years and the cottages had not been updated in some time. We have since cleaned up the orchards, returned the farm to a good working order and begun working toward adding to and diversifying our crop selection. We have also thoroughly renovated and updated three cottages which we now rent as vacation rentals. Through all of our renovations both in the cottages and on the farm we have focused on using renewable, sustainable materials whenever possible. In 2012 we were fortunate to be able to add a very large solar installation that has enabled us to generate more than 70% of the electricity we use and are working on plans to supplement with small scale solar hot water projects. Our location offers us and our guests a more authentic stay on a beautiful island rich with history and culture. We offer a lush tropical setting that is quiet and peaceful, encouraging a deeper connection to your surroundings and the ability to truly connect with the land. Our property overlooks Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Site and Kealakekua Bay--close to "Two-Step" and the Captain Cook Monument and the best snorkeling on the island. We have two gray sand beaches close by, one with a quiet cove and keiki pond perfect for little ones. We can see the whales in the winter and spring and have spinner dolphins in the bay that come to visit the snorkelers in the early morning hours. We are also closer to Volcanoes National Park, Black Sand Beach at Punalu'u and Green Sand Beach. some of the "must-see" sites for visitors. We are always here to help in planning and to answer any questions you may have. We were once travelers here ourselves and are ready to help you make the most of your Hawaiian getaway!
