About this listing
Our quiet, comfortable and cheerfully decorated one bedroom apartment is located in the lovely, central neighborhood of Eastlake. The garden, the lake views and easy access by bus or car to Downtown, South Lake Union, and the University make this your home away from home! No pets and no smoking.
This lovely apartment opens onto the garden of our 3 story house located in the Eastlake neighborhood, with views onto the lake used in the film Sleepless in Seattle. There is a large bedroom with a queen size bed, a comfortable chair for reading or looking out onto the lake, a walk-in closet, a desk, and a sliding glass door that leads to a patio where you can sit and enjoy the garden, the birds, and the view. The living room has a chair for lounging, a table for eating, and a couch for looking out the window or watching cable tv. There is a small bathroom with a walk-in shower and plenty of towels, and a fully stocked kitchen, all completely self-contained and separate from the apartments upstairs. Our house was built in 1912, and we have lived here for over 40 years! It is a very peaceful, hidden spot, in between the University and Downtown with easy bus access to both. We are also close to REI and South Lake Union, and there are stand up paddle board and kayak rentals about a mile away. Two blocks from our house is the site of the original Boeing seaplane hangar as well as the charming houseboats that make this neighborhood so special. There is a local mini supermarket with a fantastic wine selection, a petanque (bocce ball) court, tennis courts, coffee shops, and restaurants, all within walking distance. Wireless and basic cable are included. Upstairs lives my mother, who occasionally fills the air with the sounds of piano playing, and she is also a native German speaker, for those visiting from Germany. This is a nice, quiet oasis right in the heart of Seattle!
No pets, no drugs, and no smoking inside or out.
The garden is yours to enjoy if you wish.
Interaction with Guests
We will occasionally be in the garden doing yard work.
The Eastlake neighborhood is a forgotten little gem, right in the heart of Seattle. It is on the shore of Lake Union and is quiet and charming. There are houseboats, a neighborhood P-Patch, shoreline parks, cafes and restaurants to stroll to, and is only 5-10 minutes from South Lake Union and 10-15 minutes to Downtown and the University.
We are half a block from Eastlake Ave E, which runs between the University and Downtown for easy bus access.
Other Things to Note
This apartment is in the lower level of our house, so it does have slightly lower ceilings (just a cautionary note for those people over 6'2"!). There are several irregular, concrete stairs leading to the Garden Apartment, so able hearts and legs are recommended.
Since this is our home, you might see us doing yard work or cleaning up, but we respect everyone's privacy.
The apartment is not child proofed and has baseboard heaters.
This is a quiet house, so just the normal amount of consideration is nice. No pets. No cell phone talking outside, loud music, parties, no extra guests, etc. as well as no drugs and no smoking, even outside, as it will float up to the rest of us. We are in a very safe neighborhood, but we ask that when you are not home to close and lock all the windows and doors. We also prefer that any lights or heat are also turned off when not home, and no candles. Please, no extra guests on the couch. We hope you enjoy our place! Thank you!
My wife and I loved the nice apartment near Lake Union, not only because it was near our son who we were visiting, but also because of the apartment and how great it was. The pictures and description on AirBnB were very accurate and the real thing was even better in person. Roomy apartment, comfortable bed, with all kinds of thoughtful details arranged by Gillian. She had left everything I could have thought of, from linens and towels to small appliances, to tissue boxes throughout - even earplugs if needed! Clean and a beautiful little place with an overlook of Lake Union while sitting and eating breakfast. The location was very near Seattle Center and a ton of activities. Our stay could not have been better.
We will certainly be returning on our next visit.
This apartment was a terrific find! The host thought of everything - we had all the comforts of home. Great location, quiet street, plenty of room, clean and comfortable, and explicit instructions that made parking easy.
We enjoyed our three night stay at Gillian's charming apartment. It was roomy with a nicely appointed kitchen. The bed was super comfy. We liked the view over the small garden to Lake Union. The apartment was super clean. There was a lot of travel information available. We felt very much at home, and it was a comfortable and welcoming place to return to after a day of sightseeing.
We arrived in Seattle at 9 pm, and at the apartment after 10. Gillian had given us great directions and instructions about where to park. You do need to go down outside stairs to reach the entry door, but this is all clearly explained in the description. Gillian responded promptly to all our questions.
We had breakfast each morning at Louisa's, a cafe about 3 blocks away, and it was delicious.
This is a delightful place to stay!
Gillian's place in the Eastlake neighborhood in Seattle was a great place to spend a few days while visiting the area for a wedding. Her home was cozy, comfortable, and full of charming home-away-from-home details like a beautiful wooden writing desk and ornate door hinges. With a separate bedroom, living room, and kitchen, it felt spacious and welcoming. While we never met Gillian in person, her communications with us through Airbnb were detailed and informative. The space was filled with helpful information on local attractions, schedules for public transportation, and parking nearby. And the view of the sun setting behind Gas Works Park with boats passing by on the lake was a very relaxing thing to come home to after a day of exploring the city.
Gillian provided us with a very comfortable and spacious flat. Everything we needed was there, including some thoughtful touches, such as cold beers and coffee. The location is no problem, as it is very near bus routes into the centre of Seattle. Gillian gave us very helpful tips about local restaurants and shops. Parking was easy, just around the corner. It is in a quiet neighbourhood, which suited us fine. We had to catch a ferry to Bainbridge Island, and we got to the ferry terminal very quickly, despite the challenges posed by major road works in Seattle. Thank you, Gillian, for ensuring we had a very relaxing place to return to after very busy days in Seattle.
We loved staying at this adorable apartment right by the lake! Exploring this quiet neighborhood's great restaurants and eclectic homes was a real treat, but it was still very close to the heart of Downtown! The apartment was very roomy and comfortable-we enjoyed staying in watching Netflix (provided!) just as much as exploring the city. I would heartily recommend staying here, and hope to have the opportunity to return very soon!
Beautiful view. Quiet neighborhood. Found parking just a quick walk away. Comfortable bed. Wonderful little touches --coffee, extra blankets, ear plugs, etc. Will recommend to friends and would stay here again!
