About this listing
An 1860 Terrace, Chunky House has been sympathetically renovated to retain it's period charm. Fitted with modern bathrooms, a country style kitchen, separate living and dining rooms, this is a property that will meet the expectations of people looking for an upmarket experience of Melbourne in a friendly 'at home' environment.
Large private bedroom for one or two guests. Queen Bed and heaps of wardrobe space. Private bathroom, downstairs lounge area, kitchen and courtyard. Room is fitted with locks should there be other guests in the house.
The kitchen is fully available to share with me, however with so many great cafes around you'll probably decide to go out for most meals. One car parking permit is also available but not guaranteed as I have another room available. Please enquire on booking. ($50 refundable deposit applies)
Fitzroy is Melbourne’s equivalent of Soho in London and New York, the Left Bank in Paris or Greenwich Village. Here you will find a profusion of restaurants of every nationality, wine bars, clubs and venues famous for music from all over the world.
Public transport via tram is about a minutes walk out the front door and it's pretty easy to get anywhere you'd like without making too many route changes.
All good common sense really. No eating in bedroom, you're welcome to browse my books but please don't go away with any without discussion. Please provide profiles and ID details for me before booking confirmation.
We really enjoyed our stay with Keren. She was helpful, discreet and kind. She generously shared her home with us, which includes many original works of art and attractive furniture. Communication was thoughtful and prompt. The location was ideal for accessing the attractions of Fitzroy whilst being peaceful at night. We would be very pleased to stay in the future on return to Melbourne.
Keren was a fantastic host, she made us feel very welcome in her lovely home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the beautiful spacious room and took full advantage of the outstanding location.
Staying at Keren's place was my first experience with Airbnb, and set the bar pretty high for future airbnb stays. The house is very beautiful, as is the room (the photos are accurate), and you have a big bathroom, with lots of space to put your stuff, which suddenly seems important or at least luxurious if you've been traveling for a while. The bedroom has the rare quality of making you feel like you belong there, like this could be your own room. Keren is helpful and kind, I got the best tips from not only her, but from her all too cool grand children, and I felt that a lot of effort was put into me feeling at home an comfortable and welcome. As for the neighbourhood; Bang, right at the center of the inspiring mash-up that is Fitzroy, maybe 50 metres down a quiet side street from Gertrude St., which, if you're not careful, you will never leave. Local designers' shops, wine bars, travel book shops, old-school barbers, restaurants that have become travel guide darlings and so on. In short: Go. I would.
I had a great stay at Keren's lovely home. It's a beautiful house full of gorgeous artwork and excellent books. The room was big, clean, light and quiet. Keren was very welcoming and helpful providing little extras like a Myki transport card to use. The house is in a perfect location in the middle of awesome Fitzroy surrounded by cafes and restaurants and funky little shops. I would definitely stay again, thanks so much Keren!
Keren made sure she was available to receive us in spite of her busy schedule. She welcomed us into her lovely updated 19th century home, and we were wowed by her art collection, not only in the common areas but in our room as well. We had lots of space and privacy plus access to the kitchen, laundry and living room. The bed is incredibly comfortable, with linens that are professionally laundered and IRONED, which gives you an idea of how thoughtful a host Keren is. Just be sure you can negotiate stairs in the middle of the night; bathrooms are not on the same level as the room.
Keren is an interesting person, and we enjoyed our conversations with her. We were smitten by the Fitzroy neighborhood and its many restaurants. We rarely ventured far for breakfast or dinner. We will try to stay with Keren again if we manage to visit Melbourne in the future.
This was our second stay with Keren in Melbourne and once again it was a fantastic experience. Keren's house is beautiful, peaceful, and a real pleasure to stay in. The queen room is enormous and easily accommodated me and my husband and our toddler (we borrowed Keren's portacot). The location is perfect, so close to so many great streets/eateries/parks/shopping precincts/etc. Unfortunately we didn't get to see Keren much this trip but she is a well-organised, helpful and welcoming host. Communication with Keren is very easy.
Keren was very welcoming, friendly and helpful with directions and things to do and see around the city. The room was lovely and spacious, no street noise and bed very comfortable. Great location close to the city.
