ABOUT ME and Roommates:
I am 29 years old male, studying Ph.D at Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Department. In addition to science, i also love Salsa dancing and I had a chance to be a salsa instructor at University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago Dance academy and Hubbard Street Dance center. I dont have any roommates other than airbnb guests so you might expect to see other airbnb guests sharing the common areas since it is a three bedroom/two bathroom apartment. Sometimes it is only me in the house.
We live at north pilsen very close to university village and University of Illinois. It is 3-4 miles away from downtown. It takes 5 mins driving to downtown with no traffic, 10 mins by bus, 15 mins by bike and 40 mins by foot. There are lots of nice Mexican restaurants around here. It is also very close to 18th street art center.
PARKING: There is one spot available at backyard but it is not guaranteed since other airbnb people might be using the spot so it is better to ask before reserving. Although parking spot is full, do not worry. There is tons of free street parking available in front of house before 8 pm. If you come after that time, it is still easy but you might need to walk one or two blocks. Be careful though, there are sometimes street cleaning in certain days, so it is better to check signs before parking.
GETTING THERE: It extremely easy to get here from airports.
If you are coming from OHARE airport, just get into blue line train from the airport where the blue line starts and take off at UIC-Halsted station. Once you get there, it costs around 7-8 dollars by cab to come to my place. You can also use bus ( Bus Halsted # 8) from station to go to south 18th street but i recommend to use the cab since it is cheap and much more convenient.
If you are coming from MIDWAY airport, use orange line train from airport and take off at Halsted Station. And use the bus to go to 18th street ( Bus Halsted # 8) . I recommend to use cab from train station since it is so cheap around 7-8 dollars.
If you are coming from downtown, You can use pink line train and take off 18th street train station. Once you get out the train station, go west on 18th street. You will find my street after walking 10mins.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE ?
TO DOWNTOWN: 5 mins with car if there is no traffic, 10 mins with bus, 15 mins with bike, 30-40 mins by foot.
TO McCORMICK Place: This place is located at weird spot of Chicago so it is little hard to arrive there with public transportation from anywhere. It takes 10 mins by car, 25 mins by bus from my place.
OHARE airport: One hour with public transportation, and 30 mins by car if there is no traffic.
Although I never actually met Nazir, I had no trouble getting into the apartment thanks to the code lock, and Nazir replied to my questions quickly by e-mail. The room had a good bed and was quiet, towels were available, the bathroom was in good condition. There wasn't anything in the way of decoration or other furniture in the room, but this didn't bother me and I have no complaints for my one night stay.
This apartment was very clean and warm during a cold Chicago night. We didn't see our host, but the accommodations were just as described and the room was very warm and comfortable.
stayin' at Nazir's place was easy and really great! awesome room and bathroom..
The place is in a great location-very close to UIC, chinatown and downtown. Everything was just as pictured and I would stay here again. Thanks Emirah and Nazir!!
Very clean room and apartment in general. Smooth and no drama.
Nazir was not there, but his friend/roommate Emrat was available via phone. The apartment is very clean, the room has clean sheets and no dust whatsoever.
The apartment requires no keys which is convenient, and the room has keys to lock it.
The bathroom is shared with another room, but was clean nonetheless.
The host provided towels, 2 pillows and 2 comforters. I was with a friend and we just needed a place to crash after returning late. The bed was considerable big and could be shared by two people easily if they would like to.
The living room has a fireplace, fridge, TV and nice couches. It was colder than the rest of the house, but the bedroom was very warm.
In the morning, we bumped into Emrat who was very hospitable, friendly and sociable. We chatted for more than an hour before we left, gazing at the fireplace.
I definitely recommend this place for people looking for an affordable stay in Chicago and do not mind riding the metro or bus to get there.
Good location, the bus stop is directly on the corner and runs downtown until about 7:30pm. I never met Nazir b/c he was out of the country but his friend took care of everything I needed. Upstairs are nice, simple rooms, and there's a very nice living/lounging space downstairs. Very quiet.
Staying here was a great experience. Nazir and his roommate Emrah were very friendly and welcoming. Their place was an easy 30 minute walk from the UIC-Halsted Blue Line and 20 minutes from the UIC campus and Illinois Medical District. The room was clean and they provide you towels and free use of the kitchen, washer and dryer, and TV room.
Nazir's place is beautiful and convenient for a convention we were attending downtown. The room was spacious and clean as well as the kitchen appliances modern. We were able to easily store some groceries, which was a big plus. We would stay here again and recommend this place. Thanks again.
The neighborhood is very safe, however it is pretty far from the north side. The Pink line is a short was away and the bus is very accessible. Nazir was a great host, as was Emrah, the guy who moved in in the middle of our stay. Overall I would say it was a positive stay. I would recommend short term stays as my long term stay was quite expensive, however it was worth it overall.
The place is located in a good spot not too far away from downtown and close to a couple bus stops. There are some nice restaurants around, many of them very affordable.
One potential issue with the room is that it's next to the a/c (or water heater?) so there is some noise. It's not too bad but if you need a silent room to sleep it might give you trouble.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
