About This Listing
510 yrs old building topping Ss. Giovanni e Paolo, main square after San Marco. On the noble floor facing canal and monuments, a new modern flat, just renovated by the new young arty tenant who also can be your chaffeur by boat. Aimed at young people
80 m2 flat overlooking the cathedral dome of San Giovanni e Paolo, Colleoni triumphal monument and the Hospital.
Between Rialto and San Marco, 5 mins from both: the most central location of the city.
It allows you to visit everything without spending time and money on transports.
Most of all, it has the best sight on the famous square: the view from the fassade is impressive!
This XVIth century building (the yellow one with 2 floors) has been just renovated: it's always airy, bright and silent, much better than most of venetian ancient houses. The heating system is new and independent.
Fittings are easy but full: all the white goods like washing machine, dining sets, kitchen tools, fans, electronic devices including 50" screen, hi-fi audio and kinect xbox.
This is also one the closest building by the Hospital entrance, 200 mt from the first aid.
Upstairs, there are 2 main rooms (2 and 3 beds), a very nice bathroom over the porch, a little warehouse. Then there's a wonderful living (2 beds and 2 couches) facing SS. GiovanniPaolo, biggest church in town: this house's always been painted and filmed through the history and it's been also camera point, cloth point, camerino for movie sets.
Downstairs there's a wider warehouse and the waterplace, where a private speedboat is available. It's the red one you can see from the pictures: a precious 33 years old proto-piece, 40hp, doesn't need driving license. But available only after confidential treaty, because sailing Venice and the lagoon is a bit intricate and dangerous.
The address is easy to find by the crossroad of 2 main paths:Calle della Testa, direction north-south with Calle G.Gallina, east-west. Just in the middle betweeen Cannaregio and Castello, city's main districts, Rialto, city's heart, and Fondamente Nove, main terminal to the islands and last stop before Murano and Marco Polo airport VCE. If you land there, you can get here by Alilaguna water shuttle with Murano- Airport ticket, that costs half but brings you here in 45 mins as well
This place is perfectly located also because you can easily walk to railway station, bus terminal or passenger docks. No narrow, labyrinthine alleys: you can get there in less than 30 mins by feet, just following the people on the main path, Strada Nuova. Just walk this wider calle on and on and you can save transports' tickets and time.
Massimo was a great host! He was funny and gave us a great tour of Venice. He is really knowledgeable and his place is pretty easy to get to and from. Only negative was that there was no hot water. Over all, great stay!
From the airport, it is very convenient to take the water bus (blue line). It stops 5 mins from Massimo's place which is very easy to find. Massimo was very welcoming and showed us around the place. We felt very much at home. From the location it was not a far walk to San Marco or the Realto Bridge.
I stayed at Massimo's place for a night. The room and the house was very nice. The time to check-out is also flexible. I and my friend didn't interact much with Massimo, but he can give me any suggestion I asked. The house is located near the center of venice, only a few minutes to castello and san marco square; however, it's a bit far (like 30 mins walk) from the train station, which seems normal in venice though because there is no bus. The wifi in this house is the wifi from the street , so you might need to be near the window to access that; however that is a plus because you can use that pass to get an access in the street too. The view from the window is as great as in the photo. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
The apartment and Massimo are GREAT, we loved the place, the location and the host, only stayed one night with him, but definitely we would stay.
The house was very clean, as well as sheets and towels.
He was very open with us to suggest routes and places to visit.
We loved the decor, which has done things that have left their visitors; indeed, it has a collection of erotic souvenirs (in a very small table in a corner), and has some frames with old paintings of eroticism, but nothing to show naked bodies, but really have to be very observant to reach be offensive.
When we returned to Venice no doubt we stay with him
About the Host, Massimo
I've always worked with tourism. So I can speak foreign languages and know how to direct you: with my tips you can have the best saving money. I can make you sail the lagoon, cook traditional dishes or simply leave you intimately alone at home, as you wish.
I love to host some kind of people and to give them my best. I don't like mass tourists, I prefer to host Venice fans and support cultural trips. I look for brilliant people who deserves good company: slow, wise and learned travelers. Unlucky, most of my guests are 1-2 nights travelers. Nice and happy, but I don't find many opportunities to enjoy the vera dolce vita I'd like to offer.
Anyway, in the original spirit of airbnb, this is not an impersonal, aseptic hostel, but a funny bnb for a full pleasure-stay.
I was born and grown here in Venice: trying to follow our true travelling and trading tradition, I'm a tolerant, open-minded cosmopolitan. But one of the Last Mohicans: i belong to those 60k of surviving real Rialto residents, resisting the 30 mlns tourists' invasion. I'm an engaged citizen: with my community of friends, we try to fight the downtown's gentrification and to preserve its environment with many cultural happenings.
I've also worked with theaters, cinema, biennale, museums, festivals: I know 360° of my city rich cultural life: from the official to the most alternative and underground. I'm an erudite deep connosseur of its huge history and fine arts.
I'm new here but an experienced host, I've done it some years as couchsurfer. Informal, but with important guests sometimes: artists and even a couple of celebs in my life.. anyway lots of people.
I have time to spend tripping, touring, cooking and having nightlife. I've also worked for important bars and restaurants, I'm in love with wine and gastronomy. I can definitely be a good guide for gourmand!
I'm liberal, libertarian and libertine and so are my favorite guests: that's enough. But I'd like to bring them more to theaters and museums.
I like also touring to other locations like closeby historical cities, Ville Venete, beaches and islands by boat, trekking and climbing to the Dolomites.
