We have one room available in our eco-activist house. How are we eco-activist? We utilize compost for food and poop. We flush toilets with greywater. We grow food and herbs in the garden. We collect rainwater for irrigation. We make biogas. We have painted some walls with clay-based paint that we made ourselves. We ride bikes. We do not have a TV! You don't have to do all these things, but we're happy to answer questions and such.
Bathrooms & kitchen are cleaned whenever we are expecting guests. The house would offer use of the kitchen, 2 full bathrooms, and on street parking. The house does not have A/C, but there is a fan in every room and the night temperatures are usually cool enough. We live on Congress St which is a 20 min walk from downtown. There is a bus stop down the street that takes you into town.
The room is small: 7.5 feet by 9.5 feet. The bed is a full size foam mattress on the floor. We will furnish clean sheets and blankets.
We heat with a woodstove and with a space heater in the back of the house where the room is. If its still not warm enough in your room, we can put a space heater in there too.
I am the owner of the house and can promise to generally be around to make sure everything is running smoothly and the house is locked up. We have wireless internet.
You would be expected to be neat and clean up your messes in the kitchen and bathroom. Obnoxious drunkenness will not be tolerated--mellow drunks are OK as long as they go to bed quickly. :) Quiet time (no loud noises) is between 8:30pm and 8am.
I am a 39 yo male with interests in community organizing and environmental protection. I am also a builder/remodeler and I have a particular interest in appropriate technology-- solar heating, rainwater catchment, greywater recycling, reclaimed building materials. And I am a new father of a 2 old girl!
