Description

The space

Hello, everybody!

This is EUGENE’S HOUSE, a traditional Korean home. I would like to invite all of you to a sanctuary in the heart of the city where you can breathe in the traditional Korean culture, while enjoying the sunshine in the day and the stars and moon at night.

I was fortunate to live in our neighboring countries, Japan and China, for nine years. By teaching Korean and Korean culture to the students in these countries, I also began to take an interest in foreign cultures. I began to collect porcelain and other cultural items from these countries. If you come to EUGENE’S HOUSE you will have a great opportunity to enjoy various Asian cultures.

In the neighborhood of EUGENE’S HOUSE
1. It is only a short, five minute walk to the Seoul Fortress. You can feel the seasonal changes and see the view overlooking downtown Seoul. Here you will also see up close the coexistence of the past and contemporary lives of Koreans.
2. You can see plays, musicals, and movies in Daehakro (a 5 minute walk) and Chungmuro (5 minutes by car). Here there are many famous universities; relax and spend time with young people and have a chance to experience their thinking.
3. You can experience traditional Korean culture at Changdeokgung Palace, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Insa-dong cultural neighborhood, Namsan mountain, a traditional Korean Village (5 minutes by car), and the Central Museum (10 minutes by car).
4. You can enjoy pleasant shopping in nearby markets, including Dongdaemun Market, Namdaemun Market, Myeong-dong, and several department stores (5 minutes by car).

We would like to share our lives by experiencing the cultural activities of Korea, China, and Japan (Samulnori, and traditional Chinese and Japanese tea ceremonies). My tiny effort cannot solve the fundamental problems of our world, but I hope you can find yourself at peace while staying at EUGENE’S HOUSE. I will open the gates wide and welcome you.

Eugene's mother Kim Young Yeon in Hyehwa-dong.
