Interaction with Guests
When I'm home, of course I like to meet new people from different parts of the world and share a glass of wine. However, I realize many guests want a get away and of course I respect privacy.
South San Francisco (a small city of its own) has a great downtown area (not to be confused with the south part of San Francisco) with many shops and restaurants. The apartment is peaceful and quiet with great views of the Bay, yet close to public transportation, and walking distance to grocery stores (1 mile). Trader Joes and Costco, 1.7 miles away!
Bart and Caltrain. Both only 1.5 miles away. Extra commuter bikes that you can use if you are a greenie.
You can take the Bart from the airport to the South San Francisco station, where there are cabs available to take you 1.5 miles to the apartment, or if you have a fitness band, try walking and add about 3000 steps!
Other Things to Note
Walking distance to downtown South San Francisco which has many different kinds of restaurants; Korean, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Vietnamese, and several I haven't tried yet.
After damaged sofa covers and re-painting walls several times... NO SMOKING, NO KIDS, and NO PETS. Sorry.
Clean up after yourself. Long term guests must take out their own trash and put in proper recycling bins. This is a quiet household. Parties, OK, but not wild :)
This is a spacious, modern, well-equipped studio in a quiet location. It's a mother-in-law style apartment - beneath the main house and with a separate entrance. Communication with the host was very easy, and check-in trivial. Previous guests noted that they had to fill-out an inventory at check-in, but this was not my experience. I got keys in hand, and that was it. Perfect!
Two things for future guests to be aware of:
1) the location is about 6min away from the main highway into the city/airport. That's nothing by Cali standards, but does make one feel a tad isolated. On the other hand, the place is peaceful and quiet, and has a lovely park nearby.
2) during my stay, there was a good bit of noise (voices, steps, chairs moving) coming from the main house upstairs in the mornings and evenings. This did not bother me, but could be an issue for light sleepers or those looking for total peace & quiet.
Overall, a great stay and a good value for the money!
Our host Philip was a gracious and welcoming host. His response time usually was within an hour, if not less. He gave my wife and I helpful advice in navigating around SF. We were at first very skeptical, but when we physically saw the apt, we were in awe. The design and layout of the apt was incredible. The neighborhood was clean and safe. The views from the listing were breathtaking both during the day and at night. We were thoroughly satisfied with our stay and look forward to reserving with Phil on our next trip to SF. Thanks Phil, you are a part of our memories that made our anniversary vacation what it was, GREAT!!!!!
Enjoyed spending three days at Phil's place. Loved the view, and the space was larger than anticipated. Mae arrived much later than expected but arranged everything for us to check in without a problem. We would stay here again.
Phil is an excellent host and I hope to come back in the future. He is particular about his place and I respect that. It is modernized nicely and with great workmanship. When we arrived everything was clean and waiting. We had a peaceful time and enjoyed walking up the amazing hills, catching some gorgeous views.
Phil and Wendy are incredible hosts. They are very kind and courteous, and we had a great time getting to know them. They respond immediately to any queries and are extremely accommodating. The house was immaculate when we arrived. It's exactly as shown in the photos, but even more spacious than it seems. The bed is very comfortable. The studio has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It feels like home! It's a very quiet and safe neighborhood that is centrally located and super-convenient. My husband and I stayed here for a month and wish we could have stayed longer! We really enjoyed our time here and loved getting to know Phil and Wendy. They are amazing hosts! We'll recommend their lovely studio to all our friends and will definitely return!
The host is nice little firm but very professional. The house description is 90 % accurate he need to say this is the basement of a house with a garden enterance but it is finished very well with good quality appliances
Philip contacted us in advance of our stay and gave us the details we needed to locate his unit and also how to operate the door. Everything was as described in the listing; this studio is very clean, and there is plenty of storage. It feels spacious and it is tastefully decorated, plus the view is fantastic. We plan to book this unit again the next time we are in the area.
I am a road warrior afraid that moss will grow on my feet. I travel light, and don't carry much.
Having me as a guest: I'm the type of guest that is equal to the type of guest that I'd like to have as a host. That means I clean up after myself. I respect others' property and privacy, yet I'm open to hanging out and getting to know the host, and would love that also. I like to make a contribution to the household rather than being an energy suck. That could include doing my share of chores, buying some groceries, treating for dinner, etc.
Things I can't live without include my family, friends, bicycle and backpack.
Favorite places include the mountain peak in back of my house, and other high places in Switzerland.
Favorite authors include Malcolm Gladwell and George Friedman.
Favorite movies include Jerry Maguire and Legends of the Fall.
I love all kinds of music.
I've recently become a vegan in the last 3 years and see no need to eat meat or animal products other than an occasional lobster and cheese:).
