The Space

Beautiful Sonoma Summer!

* enjoy your bright private room and bath in a contemporary country house
* walk or bike to over 12 wineries and tasting rooms
* get the insider's tips to the area
* home-cooked breakfast with Peet's coffee and Tazo teas

* Kenwood is just 1 hour drive north of the Golden Gate Bridge; 15 minutes from Sonoma town; 40 minutes from Napa.

RELAX. The guest room has a sumptuous queen bed with Italian linens, a writing desk, closet and private deck to the backyard. Your own guest bathroom is a few feet away (not ensuite) with shower, toilet, pedestal sink and organic bath products. The living room offers a soft leather couch, designer fireplace, sound system, a flat screen TV for DVDs (sorry, no cable as I don't watch TV). Free, fast secure WiFi throughout the house.

WINE TASTING AND DINING . Easily walk or bike to over a dozen tasting rooms including Enkidu, B-wise, Paradise Ridge, VJB, Chateau St. Jean, Landmark, Kenwood, Deerfield Ranch, Kunde, etc. Many other wineries within a few miles. A couple of casual restuarants - Cafe Citti (Italian) and Palooza (pub grub) - just a couple of blocks away. Other fine restaurants nearby in Glen Ellen and Sonoma.

DO LOTS OR NOTHING. Great area for hiking, walking, running, and biking. Or just hang out in the large backyard, nap on the hammock, dine in the old farm ruin, warm up in front of the living room fireplace, chase squirrels, pick figs, watch the moon rise, listen to trees rustle.... and of course, drink good wine!

INSIDER'S GUIDE. I am also a pretty darn good tour guide if you want me to take you around. Let's talk! Check out my blog called Perfect Outings. As my guests, receive a $50 per person tour discount.

Interaction with Guests

I usually welcome you with a glass of wine and give you a quick tour of the place. When I am home, I normally cook breakfast and join you, but if you rather dine alone, just let me know.

The Neighborhood

A friendly, quiet neighborhood. We don't have sidewalks or street lights. We don't even have a postman.

Getting around

Walk, bike or drive.

  • GREAT! We loved the comforts of the house, the bed, the pleasures of freshly prepared breakfasts and the displayed artworks and yard. Yan is congenial, a great cook and encouraged us to enjoy all the area offers.

  • We came up last weekend for a friend's wedding. Yan was very accommodating, making us coffee and a delightful breakfast the next morning. He was very interesting to talk to! The room was nicely appointed, the bed was very comfortable and bathroom clean. Yan's patio and backyard were delightful, I wish we had stayed longer to hang out there!

  • Yan is an incredibly welcoming and super interesting guy! He was so helpful in giving us tips and ideas of what to do in the area. His beautiful house has a light and airy feeling with an amazing backyard. I was worried about staying in someone else's house but he was very respectful of our space. We had our own bathroom and the room was well decorated. Made me wish I could live in that house forever! If I am ever in Sonoma again I will definitely try to stay here.

  • We had a great stay at Yan's. As all the reviews say, it was really enjoyable to meet Yan, have a glass of wine and talk about travel, careers, politics. He is an amazing host and the house is lovely and immaculate. He has amazing attention to detail and everything was very comfortable. Yan gave us great recommendations for restaurants, hikes and wineries. I highly recommend Yan's.

  • My wife and I stayed with Yan in Kenwood. Yan is a fantastic host - on our arrival, he welcomed us into his garden and we drank a glass of wine together. We discussed the local environment, and Yan's own motivations for moving away from the city and into the vineyards. The house itself is immaculate. The guest room is in a corner of the flat, and has windows that look out onto a private deck with chairs, and also windows that look out onto the street (we kept the curtains on these closed).

The flat is quite intimate, and I would suggest that any potential guests be aware of this. The guest bedroom is close to Yan's own bedroom, so if you were looking to have a party, a wild night, or complete privacy then this might not be the best choice. If however, you're looking to meet new people and get some superb local insights, then Yan's would be a great option.

The morning after our stay Yan cooked us a fine breakfast. He tries to source everything he cooks from local farms. We were too early in the year for the figs, but the tree did look magnificent.

  • Yan was the best host ever! Very sweet and personable. He made us feel very welcome. The accommodations were perfect!! Yan's place is very charming and clean. The backyard area was delightful! We will definitely stay at Yan's the next time we are in the area.

  • Great stay! Would definitely recommend Yan. He's a consummate host with a beautiful home and we enjoyed our time there. He's adept with recommendations for dinner, wineries etc. He should probably open a true BnB someday!

  • We had a great stay at Yan's beautiful place. Yan welcomed us with wine and cheese and gave us great recommendations for things to do in Kenwood and around. He made us Feelings absolutely welcomed and at home. His place is great - from here you can walk and drive to plenty of sights, tastings and restaurants.

  • Had a picture perfect stay with Yan on our weekend in Sonoma. He is a skilled host and served various scrumptious treats during our stay, including wine, cheeses, and an excellent breakfast to see us off at the end. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a more welcoming atmosphere than the typical tourist hotel.

  • Yan was a fantastic host. As soon as we walked into his home he welcomed us with wine and cheese. He's so easy to talk to and his home (especially the backyard) is very beautiful and relaxing. At one point we got so caught up in conversation that he forgot about the muffins in the oven. He was quite disappointed but the frittata he made us for breakfast the next day more than made up for it. The guest bedroom is also very nice and comfortable. Yan is an excellent host, cook, and also knows everything about the area and will give great recommendations for just about anything. Above all, he's just a great person to talk to and spend time with. Unfortunately our time was limited and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!
