About this listing
Stay in one of the most unique b&b vacation rentals in California – an old bank building.
Built in 1920 by Bank of Italy, later Bank of America, it was converted into an artist’s residence in 1988. It is located in the sleepy, rural, west Marin town of Tomales.
This vacation spot is a short hop from the Napa and Sonoma wine valleys, historic Bodega Bay where Alfred Hitchcock filmed “The Birds”, beaches, redwoods, bicycling, kayaking and much more. Relax with modern comforts. Sleep in a quiet luxury loft.
Feel safe and secure at Not-A-Bank!

Host me our stay very welcoming! Rental description was accurate and meet our expectations.. Would recommend this place to friends and family
Not A Bank is a wonderfully unique and very comfortable space. Bert has done a great job preserving the special bank features while creating a cohesive design that is full of art, nicely divided to create different functional spaces. It feels much larger than it looks in the photos. Our family of 4 adults had plenty of room and a surprising amount of privacy. The master bedroom loft is especially nice. The neighborhood is exactly as we pictured it- quiet, sleepy, remote- it's a great place to hole up and enjoy getting lost in a good book- or in our family's case, explore the four instruments, all of which got played: piano, Hammond organ and two guitars. Bert left concise and complete instructions and told us to partake of any food. We enjoyed a nice selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. The kitchen space is small but perfectly serviceable. Everything is very clean, and there's a great selection of books throughout.
We had a WONDERFUL time at NOT A BANK! The space is super unique, fun and artistic. Plus, well-equipped with basically anything you would need-extra pillows, games, spices, first aid supplies even a record player. Burt was easy to communicate with throughout the whole process. We would definitely come back.
Not-A-Bank was a special place. Very clean, so unique with the tellers windows, the big safe and all the amenities you might need. Although we never cooked (great restaurant, bakery and sandwich shop nearby) it had everything you might need. Bed was very comfortable. Nice books and great art. We went on a night time biophosphorescent kayaking tour at 8pm and it was just a 7 minute drive to Nicks Cove, the start point. Thanks Bert, we hope to return when we kayak in the area again.
Not-A-Bank is a charming, cleverly converted bank -- incorporating the marble and wood counters and divider, with just enough amenities to make you feel comfortably at home. We loved the high ceilings, sound system, tidy kitchen and roominess (and the teller windows!). We could start our day with wonderful pastries from the bakery across the street, hop right on our bikes for touring and enjoy the Tomales-Pt Reyes area.
Bert is a responsive and considerate host; we feel fortunate to have been able to stay in his place.
What an awesome, funky space! This is a place that will be on the top of my list of most memorable listings. Situated in the town of Tomales, near all the things you need--it's a fun and great place to stay. Thank you Bert!
