Yes the public bus stops 1/2 block from the house. However please research the local bus website for timetables and schedules. • Our stay at Ray's house was very nice! Its a nice house in a quiet and secure neighbourhood. It was clean and the housekeepers friendly and helpful (thanks for borrowing the snorkel equipment!). We could use the living room and kitchen too, where we found everything we needed. The house is near to several beaches (for example Sandy Beach or Hanauma Bay), Hiking Trails and Downtown Honolulu. We can highly recommend this! Thanks!

  • The house was very nice and clean. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies and the bikes and boogie boards were nice to borrow. The house was a little farther from the beach than we had hoped, but if you have a car it is no problem. Great place and fantastic vacation!

  • We wanted a place away from the hubbub of Waikiki and Ray's place was pwrfect! It is so close to many of the outdoor activites we wanted to do (Koko Crater, Hanauma Bay, Makapuu), but not too far from downtown, either. Basic household accomodations that were clean and welcoming. I had one issue with failed wifi that was handled immediately. Highly recommended!

  • Really enjoyed our three days.. Especially breakfast looking out over the ancient volcano crater. There are two rooms make sure you are in the one with the double bed! Lovely stay! You need a car but some of the invests beaches are nearby. Not many good food options nearby so shop beforehand!

  • We had a nice stay here. We only met the housekeeper, that lives there once at check-in, she was very friendly and sweet. The room was small, but you also get to use a big living room and kitchen, that we shared with other travelers. We also really enjoyed the outside table for dinner. My mom wished it would have been cleaner… but it didn't bother me.

  • We found this to be a disorganized and dirty place, but good location. We had communicated that we would be arriving at 9pm and got a text saying it would be organized so we could 'self check-in'. Upon our arrival at 9pm, we called because there was no note or key apparent. No answer, but the door was unlocked, so we went in. The alarm went off; so I called again - the alarm company had called the owner, so she answered this time. The alarm kept going off; the person who lived on site showed up (he seemed to have been drinking so added to the confusion, though he showed us which room we were to use) While trying to get the house alarm to stop going off, his car alarm went off and a neighbor started yelling about that - clearly a fiasco and we were exhausted from traveling. By 9:30 things had settled down, the groundskeeper guy who lived in the house showed up and we started settling in. The owner texted that we could leave, but, as I pointed out, where would we go? I did not want to spend my short time on Oahu looking for lodging and i was exhausted at that time, or I certainly would have. Our room smelled of what I presumed was cat urine, the shower curtain was absolutely coated with black mold (I live in Hilo which is far wetter; there is no need to let things get so moldy) the refrigerator was none too clean and, when we picked something up off the carpeting in the dining area a lot of hair came up as well.
The owner refused to answer phone calls or call back; instead she sent messages to my E-mail that did not address my concerns. I wasn't on the computer and messages seemed to be getting cut off on my phone. I texted for clarification, but got nothing but the repeated question as to when we were checking out and that the alarms going off was my fault. She did indicate she would consider refunding the $20/day cleaning fee as the place was clearly not cleaned on a regular basis, but no refund, yet.
This was our first time using Airbnb. I have traveled all over the world; usually staying in hostels, which I find to be cleaner, cheaper and better organized; with a person usually on-site even for late check-ins and they answer or at least call back when they get a phone call. Most hostels also have lots of info about local sites and include breakfast - neither was available at this Airbnb place.

    Thanks a lot!

  • I am a visitor but staying at Ray's I felt like a resident. As a need occurred, she made it happen. staying in a home is different than a hotel and must be accepted as such. . The other guests were pleasant and we enjoyed their company. The room was adequate and became home. I would have preferred a private bath but this is a different concept, one I plan to return to soon. Location is perfect. I made my daily pilgrimage to Sandy Beach and came to love my life as an islander, albeit temporary. I am returning and soon and look forward to my room at my island home. Thanks Ray.

  • Fantastic stay. Great big beautiful comfortable home. Awesome beach cruiser to ride and wonderful hosts!

Only thing I didn't realize was the poor and unreliable Hawaii public transport system. If you don't have a car... It's not very easy to get to airport or anywhere else other than Waikiki-- my fault for coming for the north shore!!! But they were so nice they offered me a lift to airport for early am flight for probably 1/3 price of a cab! They also helped me with a few odd requests, like a computer use and to change the seat height on the bike.

Would stay again... Very accommodation, peaceful and clean!
