Williamsburg, currently one of New York's hippest neighborhoods, is an unlikely amalgam of small houses, warehouses, clubs, coffee shops (LOTS of coffee shops) galleries, new condominiums, dozens of restaurants, a wonderful book shop, bars, performance spaces, a world-class cheese shop, thrift stores, clothing boutiques, and looming remnants of the New York waterfront's industrial past.
Our apartment is on North 7th Street, two and a half blocks from the Bedford Ave stop on the L train, the first stop in Brooklyn and a 5-minute ride from Union Square. It's a half-block from the East River State Park, which has summer concerts and a spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline. An esplanade runs south along the river. From a landing at North 6th Street there’s ferry service to various stops in Manhattan and Brooklyn. There's a running track in nearby McCarren Park and a bike path along Kent Avenue. At the end of our block, every weekend between April and November, there's Smorgasburg: an outdoor artisanal food market where approximately 75 vendors sell both packaged and prepared food, from pulled pork sandwiches to fried anchovies and heavenly donuts (Saturdays). On Sundays, there's the open-air Brooklyn Flea, a mix of booths selling vintage, antique, and handmade goods, as well as food vendors.
We supply sheets and towels.
We don't charge a cleaning fee.
We speak French, German, and Italian.
The apartment has:
* a private entrance through our garden
* two bedrooms with queen-sized beds
* a complete and fully stocked kitchen
* tons of sunlight
* free wifi
* DVD player (no TV)
Our staying at Bob was incredible. It's the 2nd time we reside there and everything was perfect. The location is great and the pictures don't reflect how amazing the place is. Thanks again for a nice stay.
We had a great time staying in Bob's apartment over new year. The location was absolutely perfect for pottering around Williamsburg (which we loved) and for catching a subway over to Manhattan. The apartment is filled with all of Bob and Ashton's brilliant books and trinkets which are fascinating and help to pass any time spent in. There is also the bonus of having a balcony/decking area and courtyard which would be especially good in the summer. Everything that we required was provided and it was extremely clean and tidy when we arrived (and hopefully when we left too!). Checking in/out was no problem at all thanks to the hosts' flexibility and generosity. All in all, we really couldn't recommend the place highly enough and would certainly try to book in again if we were to return in future.
Bob's place was perfect for what we we were looking for. My wife and I live in Astoria and wanted an apartment where we could host my parents from out of town. The place is remarkably spacious, with plenty of room for all four of us. The kitchen is fully stocked and had everything we needed to cook a holiday meal. The skyline view from just down the street is a nice perk. No complaints; would recommend to anyone.
Our host was great about making us feel welcome and comfortable in their home. The home was cleaned before we arrived and all the beds were made and towels were provided. Also they had left a message which told us some specifics about their house that I found helpful. The gal who cleaned and did the laundry was very nice. I was a little surprised that she came daily to do laundry for other places she took care of as well.
We loved the artsy feel of the home and enjoyed looking at all the different books in their book shelf. The outdoor patio was a big plus with the option to grill our dinner.
The neighborhood was very nice and we loved it's proximity to the East River and the Park.
Checking in and checking out were both fine due to our host's flexibility.
If I ever come back to visit NYC I will try to stay here again!
Everything about our experience went smoothly -- the house is in a great location and had everything we needed. Bob and Ashton have a comfortable, beautiful place. We were able to host a few friends for a barbecue in the shared backyard, which was great.
When I confirmed availability for the "Great house in Williamsburg Brooklyn" and our credit card payment went through, I received a message from Bob that the place we wanted and paid for was actually not available, but that there was a different place available. It felt very "bait-and-switch". After some discussion with Bob, who was accommodating, we decided to stay at the other place, that I would not have chosen. Saying this, the people were very helpful & nice and the area was absolutely wonderful. The location cannot be beat. Our entire family (husband and two young daughters) had a wonderful time.
Wow, what a great place to stay in New York. This house of Bob and Ashton was a true oasis in this marvelous great city. It is exactly like the pictures. Sitting an in a private garden in the middel of New York is just unbelievable. We felt we had an little hous of our own and felt a true NY citizen for one week.
At night we made an nice stroll along the riverside with an extrodinary view on the sky-line of Manhattan.
The food in Williamsburg is great, the streets are nice and cosy. Bob gave us a list of perfect restaurants, and most of them are on the corner of North 7th street. In this house you can feel that Bob and Ashton are authentic and creative. You don't have to bring your own books, their house is a very interesting privaten library.
It is a nice quiet place and the beds are very good. This great house offert us the perfect way to relax right in the middle this exciting city of New York. The L-train subway brings you to the heart of Manhattan within 5 minutes. Or take the East River Ferry just down the street and have a nice short boottrip up- or downtown: feel the wind in you hair whilst enjoying the view on the famous skyline of the Big Apple.
Thanks Bob & Ashton , and Sevgi off course for the friendly welcome and the nice talks we had.
