Live like a local in a restored Spanish Bungalow from 1934. Experience the thriving music, food and culture of Los Angeles. Our home has original architecture combined with modern renovations to create the ideal home away from home.
Welcome to the best hidden oasis in the central heart of Los Angeles!
We nicknamed our house "The Spanish Greens" for the lush garden and vibrant colors reminiscent of 1935 Spanish Revival bungalows. The unique character is in the home's original dark redwood floors, Spanish style archways, french doors melting the indoor atmosphere with the outdoors and original wood windows that capture plenty of daylight and cool breezes.
We are offering a modern, calming bedroom and private bathroom. The bedroom has a comfortable tempurpedic full size bed for one or two people. The large room is brightly decorated with abstract art and a wall of mirrors. The bedroom opens onto the relaxing garden and secret hammock in the backyard.
You have full access to the large modern chefs kitchen, WIFI internet, and free laundry and dryer. Make yourself at home in the colorful living room, among travel photos & available movies/TV shows on DVD. Or create an outdoor office by sitting on the patio to enjoy the warm LA weather. Or relax away the day in the hammock hidden among the fruit trees. If you come at the right time of year, you are welcome to pick the organic fruit or vegetables from the garden.
There is plenty of safe, free and convenient street parking directly in front of our house, if you have a car.
This room is across the hall from our bedroom and near MJ's studio where we occasionally sleep, when we rent our master bedroom for AIRBNB guests. If you need anything, we will be nearby.
We are "work-from-home" entrepreneurs. A few times per week, Shannon leaves for work in the morning. On weekdays there is a strong work vibe, and although someone is usually home, we may be busy during work hours.
We are quiet at night and appreciate guests who like both conversations and time to yourself.
Our lovely Spanish style house in historic Leimert Park is convenient to Jamaican Food, Soul Food, Southern BBQ, shopping, movie theaters, coffee shops and beautiful Southern California historic architecture of the 1920s and 1930s. It's a quaint neighborhood with great soulful energy.
Leimert Park is a predominately middle class African-American neighborhood and home to many known Hollywood artists and producers. The location is literally in the center of the city, between downtown, Hollywood and the beach.
It is an up-and-coming place to enjoy the exciting diversity and urban life of Los Angeles.
Although this city is built for cars, this neighborhood, Leimert Park, is great for those traveling without a car as it's convenient to major boulevards and public transportation.
We are a short 15-20 minute drive to Downtown Los Angeles, Venice Beach, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, LAX airport and Hollywood.
Our house is a 15 minute walk to the Metro Expo Line which takes you directly to Downtown Los Angeles or USC to the East and Culver City to the West. USC is a short 5 min drive or a 10 min bike ride.
You can also transfer from the Metro Expo Line:
- To the Red Line and go to Hollywood and Universal Studios
- To the Gold Line and go to Pasadena
- To the Blue Line and go to Long Beach
One block from the house:
-Bus#102 to LAX Airport City Bus Center, USC
-Bus#40 or #740 Express goes to Downtown LA & USC
-Bus #105 or #705 Express goes to Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive and the heart of West Hollywood
-Bus#210 goes to the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, Melrose Blvd for shopping
Our 3 cats are affectionate and friendly with our guests. They may even cuddle with you at night if you want the company. If not, they will leave you (website hidden): We are renting our space to save for our wedding and honeymoon travels in the Spring of 2015. Excitement!

I had an amazing stay with Shannon & MJ. They are wonderful hosts and their house is beautiful, comfortable and clean. The house is located in a quiet residential area. I hung around the neighbourhood quite a bit, and I really enjoyed this location. It's central and has everything you could need, including a nice new Starbucks right down the street. As hosts, Shannon & MJ are the best of the best. I feel like I have two new friends. Actually, five new friends when I count their three adorable cats! I really can't say enough about my stay with Shannon & MJ. I can't wait to come back to LA and stay with them again!
Shannon and MJ provided great hospitality and the perfect place to stay after my 6 day cross-country relocation drive to LA. The bed was SUPER comfortable, I had full use of the kitchen and their supplies, washer/dryer, and a great private bathroom. A bonus was Shannon really knows this town and gave me SWEET quick and easy directions to get to my new job downtown as well as other tips for things to check out. They are also very close to USC. Parking in front of the house was easy to find each day of the 2 weeks I was there and the home was clean enough so that the 3 cats were NO issue for my allergies! This place is perfect for a long term or newly relocated (like me) stay and definitely a great deal for a quick trip to LA!
Shannon and MJ may quite possibly be the sweetest, most lovely people in all of LA. Their home is truly superb and a fantastic find. The bedroom and bathroom are private and quiet and there's even access to a cute back yard.
The location is just a few minute's drive to both the beach and the city so finding fun activites is no problem at all. The neighborhood is beautiful and up-and-coming. Overall, a rich cultural contrast to your typical suburb. There's plenty of safe street parking as well.
They made my visit very enjoyable and, more importantly, comfortable. In fact, when my schedule was extended, I decided to spend another month with them. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who's traveling to LA for vacation or work!
Shannon and MJ are great. They have been very nice and helpful. They have a lovely cat, which loves to cuddle. I have just arrived in LA and I stayed for 2 nights in their room. It was perfectly clean, very spacious with a private bathroom. Everything was perfect except for the area, which is a little sketchy. Yet, I would stay there again! ))
Shannon and MJ are amazing hosts. They're fun and friendly and I enjoyed getting to know them. Also, I've never slept so well, the bed is super comfy!! I highly recommend staying at the hidden oasis. I will definitely stay again when I need a place in LA :)
Shannon and MJ were good hosts. The house was tidy, easy to find and a short distance from LAX. I was lucky to have found it, as it was very conveniently located for my needs. Thanks Shannon.
I wish I could leave more than five stars. My daughter and both fell in love with Shannon's beautiful house, peaceful outdoor space and lovely neighborhood. And we are both officially in love with Shannon too. After hugging Shannon goodbye at our car yesterday, my daughter and I got into the car and stared at each other wide eyed for a minute as we both exclaimed "She is so AWESOME!". The place exceeded my expectations. The room is a great bargain and you get your own private bathroom. I never felt unsafe, and the place was a real respite. The bed is extremely comfortable. This is an excellent location for people visiting kids at USC. You'll be in good hands as a newcomer to the city if you stay here, because Shannon has a wealth of info on places to go and things to see. Plenty of parking too.
Wow-Shannon is an amazing host! She is such a warm, friendly, and open person. The house is beautiful. There is a really relaxing energy there. The bedroom w/ the attached private bedroom was awesome. That tempurpedic bed was sooooo comfortable. It was a joy to meet so many of Shannon's friends and family. It just confirmed what a great person Shannon is. The food scavenger hunt-crazy fun.
Another reviewer mentioned the neighborhood. I was there for two weeks and never felt unsafe or had a bad experience with anyone.
There is a small shopping mall (Macys, Sears, Walmart, Staples, and nice movie theater) a few blocks away. There are also several good restaurants in the area. All of the major pharmacy stores (Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid) are nearby.
There is also a rich and vibrant music vibe in the neighborhood.
Do yourself a favor and book a stay at Shannon's. It's an incredible value.
Fantastic host and person! Shannon made us feel like at home from the very first minute! The house was spotless, super clean and very large which allowed us to make home-cooked meals and enjoy movies in her large living room in the evenings.
She also has a dedicated driveway for your car and a garage to store your bike! The only aspect I would like to inform future hosts about is that her neighborhood is predominantly African-American. Thus, we sometimes felt uncomfortable walking outside in the neighborhood. Nonetheless, it is a great location to explore what LA as best to offer!! Highly recommended!
Carlos, I want to thank you for your honesty about your comfort with my predominately African-American neighborhood. I know it was challenging for Natalijia, your girlfriend, to get used to. Nonetheless, I'm glad this hosting experience has brought us closer together and created a friendship with both of you. I treasure good people like you and Natalijia.
Shannon is a wonderful host who caters to all your needs. The pictures do not do justice to how wonderful this home is. The neighborhood is safe, within <5 min walking distance of a major mall with movie theater, Wal-mart, Sears, and many great restaurants. Shannon is also a wonderful cook with great improvisation skills who loves to share not only her food but her myriad incredible life experiences. I feel lucky to have now made this great friend all thanks to airbnb. Highly recommended.
