Redwood Retreat in Wine Country

House - Private room · Joy Rd, Occidental, CA 95465, United States

The Space

Nesetled in a redwood forest, this private entrance room has a queen bed and 1/2 bath, and is the perfect retreat for wine country access and Occidental biking and hiking.

The room is steps away from an outside hot tub, deck, and creek. There is a shower available in the main house.

Free wi-fi and no television or cell service. Easy access parking. We are city dwellers who moved to the country so we could plant a garden and raise our child.

Things are quiet here. Birds, foxes and rabbits also share the property. We don't have any visible neighbors, and are surrounded by trees. Our driveway is 1/3 of a mile long, and we often take walks up it to visit the neighbor's horses.

We are close to Occidental (10 min), which has a few restaurants, two markets and a couple of shops. We are also close to Sebastopol and Sonoma County wine growers and wineries (18 min). Also nearby are Bodega (8 min) and Bodega Bay (18 min). Bodega is the town where The Birds was filmed, a great coffee shop and the local tavern, The Casino (not really a casino, just a bar that serves good food every night from Chef Mark Malicki). And Bodega Bay has great whale watching, beaches, and hiking. Oh yeah, and we are about 20 min from Hog Island Oyster Co in Tomales. We love to buy a bag of Oysters and shuck 'em on our deck.

On the weekends, the road we live on is filled with road bikers. They've found the little-trafficked roads with hills and beautiful scenery to be good places to ride.

  • Alissa and Jeff are amazing hosts. They welcomed us into their home as if we were family. The room is super cozy, but you really ought to spend most of your time outside. The deck, the garden, the strings of lights hung from the trees, the hot tub, the stars. We couldn't have imagined a more lovely place to visit. We'll definitely be back.

  • Great place to stay. Gorgeous house set in the middle of a pretty grove of tress, quite creek bubbling nearby, simple and pretty in-law stlye room. Lots of fantastic restaurants and things to do in the area. My girlfriend and I had a blast, definitely recommend. Alissa and Jeff are really nice and responsive, couldn't ask for more

  • We stayed only one quick night at this amazing place. Alissa was extremely helpful with directions and replying very fast with recommendations! The house is amazing and the room is great! We had breakfast on a place recommended by Alissa and it was delicious, only 10 min away from the house! We highly recommend staying and this place!!! Pictures are real; we could not feel more confortable at this place!

  • I had an amazing stay at Alissa's and Jeff's place. The room is very private and cozy. The house is never locked and Alissa and Jeff are very approachable for advice on what to do around there. The jacuzzi is just AMAZINGLY relaxing and the view is priceless. Would go again anytime and would recommend to everybody looking for a nice and quiet place to relax surrounded by nature.

  • It's a really cute place with wonderful hosts. We had a fantastic time and Alissa had some great recommendations for places to go in the area! Merry Edwards Vineyard, it's fabulous.

  • Alissa was a fantastic host and the room in their home was nothing short of gorgeous. I would be more than happy to stay here again.

The room was clean and quiet, with a good amount of privacy from the rest of the house. Nonetheless, Alissa was a great host and helped us find places to eat and things to do over the weekend. I can't emphasize enough how serene and beautiful this place is, the only disappointment was having to leave at the end of the weekend.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed here for Valentine's weekend. We knew we had made the right choice as we drove down the driveway and saw all the Christmas lights luminating the back patio. What a fantastically romantic getaway!

Unfortunately, Alissa and Jeff weren't there the weekend of our stay. However, they were still incredibly hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed (even when not there). The hot tub was perfect not only in temperature, but the views off their patio are extraordinary. They even have a small creek running not far from their backyard where you can take a gorgeous stroll!

We were only a 10-15 minute drive from Bodega Bay, including many great restaurants and beaches. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a Romantic Getaway (or just a Getaway).

  • I could just say "hot tub in the middle of a silent, secluded redwood forest" and that would probably get the point across, but I will add that Alissa and Jeff are great hosts - very friendly, interesting to talk to and welcoming. I really hope to go back and see them again in the near future!

Occidental is a magical place, and their house is a one-of-a-kind retreat. It is literally so quiet there that you can hear leaves hitting the forest floor ..... but the guest room is attached to the main house, so you don't feel too alone or isolated. The woods get dark at night (like, camping dark), so bring a flashlight. I also had warm clothes and slippers for dashing around outside/in and out of hot tub, but the guest room itself is nice and toasty at night, with a tea kettle and extra blankets. I loved this place - it's definitely more like staying with a family than staying in a hotel, and the location is breathtaking.

  • Alissa and Jeff were great hosts. The log cabin was beautifully located at the bottom of a private road surrounded by redwoods. The bedroom was well-furnished and had its own entrance. It was a very relaxing place. They knew some good hikes in the area and even printed out maps and offered suggestions for the rest of my trip once I got to San Francisco. Can't wait to return!

  • An ideal getaway in the redwoods. Jeff and Alissa were gracious hosts who were friendly and accommodating. The space is perfect for a night away from the city, nestled atop a hill in a picturesque forest. We arrived after dark and woke to nothing but beautiful green foliage out our windows. After a cup of coffee on the private little porch, the clouds parted, and we climbed into the hot tub for a bit. Sunken into the beautifully designed and built deck, surrounded by redwoods and the sounds of chirping birds, it's almost as if you're soaking right in the forest! Absolutely relaxing. I can't wait to return, hopefully with more time to visit with both Jeff and Alissa.

I like to think I live in the place most like Waimea, Hawaii, on the Big Island, but better since we are about an hour and 15 min. from the Golden Gate Bridge. This helps me get my City Fix when I need it. We have a garden, a hot tub, and tons of redwood trees and ferns.
