The Space

Guests will have access to our entire home.
This includes the use of the hot-tub, outdoor grill, and fire pit.

Our location is ten minutes from Putney Village off interstate 91north at exit #4. We are in southeastern Vermont near the Massachusetts and New Hampshire borders.
Check our blue guidebook on this page for suggestions of activities and local restaurants.
Close to Brattleboro, nearby cross-country skiing at The Putney School. Cross-country ski and mountain bike rentals may be found at West Hill Bike shop in Putney.
We are an hour to the downhill ski slopes like Ascutney, Bromley, Mt.Snow, Okemo, and Stratton.
Closer, is the cross-country ski center at Grafton Ponds. Open-air skating is free at the Retreat Meadows, and affordable family skating is found at Brattleboro's ice skating rink at Living Memorial Park.
Locally we have great mountain biking, hiking, running trails, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing. Also, locally crafted beer, cheese, wine, and fresh roasted coffee beans.
Nextstage Arts in Putney Village offers live music and film screenings.
Discreet, adult, clothing-optional river swims abound each summer. For example, one renown swim spot is named "Indian Love Call".
Caution: you might want to move here...
:-)

We have 3 neighbors. Our closest neighbor, a builder, renovated an old "Hippie home" about 100 yards away beyond our birch trees.
Next, a tiny cabin, against our 11 acre property line, lives a young neighbor who raises chickens, and like most Vermonters, is willing to help when needed.
Last on our dirt road, are two energetic gals who have a goat farm, and amazing chèvre cheese. They welcome visitors, but please leave your dog home at Milagro if you visit.
Beyond the goat farm is a flat hiking trail that after 15 minutes goes into the border of our neighboring village of Dummerston.
Come see for yourselves...

Limited public transit is available to downtown Putney from Brattleboro and Bellows Falls. Amtrak trains run to Nearby Brattleboro. Our place is accessed easiest by a vehicle, preferable AWD or 4WD in winter. Snow tires are suggested if we get a big snowfall.

Here's a list of airports surrounding us, and distances to us. Distances are by car travel.
We are south of BTV or Burlington, VT airport - about 2.5 hours.
We are north of BDL or Bradley, CN airport - about 1.5 hours.
We are west of MHT or Manchester, NH airport - 2 hours.
We are west of BOS or Boston, MA airport - 2.5 hours.

Visit our Green Mountain state again, or for the first time. We love our state motto, which is Freedom+Unity.

  • The hosts left all the information needed to enjoy our stay. Having use of a BBQ grill and spacious and we'll stocked kitchen made eating in easy. We didn't want to leave the lovely setting except to go hiking and grocery shopping. The master bedroom was great while the second bed situation was a bit trickier for an over six foot guy but we managed. The house itself is cozy with a lot of interesting art on the walls. And a view of Mt Monadnock through an opening in the birch stand. Would come back again...

  • We loved our stay at Milagro! Everything about the place was perfect. It was private, secluded, and had beautiful views of green mountains peaking through the trees that you can see from either porch or the hot tub. Doug and Jessica were quick to respond to any questions and they keep their place very very clean. Milagro is filled with beautiful art and photography. We plan to stay here again in the future!

  • Looking for a relaxing quiet weekend away from the city...look no further! We found Jessica and Doug's home and immediately fell in love! The pictures do not do the house justice! There were four of us visiting and we had such a fabulous weekend!
We arrived later then expected on Friday and pulled up just around when the sun was going down. When we walked into the house everything was just perfect! Doug and Jessica were sweet enough to leave us a bottle of wine and some chocolates as well with a very detailed notebook about the house and the area. There is artwork displayed all around the house which was great to just walk around and look at.
The property is pristine! We enjoyed our days exploring the area including a great swimming hole a short drive away. At night we came back and started a fire to sit around for some drinks and look at the stars. We cooked in the wonderfully equipped kitchen. I would actually love to have a kitchen just like this one in my home (especially the great cast iron skillet!)
The house is large and spacious but cozy all at the same time. The bedrooms were great. We all agreed that we had some of the best sleep in this house. One of our friends actually would love to know the exact bedding that is in the reggae room loft so he can go buy some.
We'd definitely love to return the Doug and Jessica's home for another perfect weekend! Thank you so much!

    Response from Doug + Jessica:

Leslie, we cannot thank you enough for enjoying our place. Milagro thrives on love, and we appreciate the fact that you truly enjoyed yourselves.

All the bedding we purchased locally. We are fortunate to be near NoHo, or
Northampton, MA, home of the famous "Fly By Night" furniture store.
We love shopping, dining, and eating local food.

Nearby Brattleboro, a DIY paradise, features Pop-Ups, Food-trucks, thrift stores, great restaurants, and all things amazing.

Milagro provides nearby solitude from the town scene - we hope you'll return for "another perfect weekend".

  • We had an absolutely magical time at Milagro. The house is so well considered - and full of fabulous, sweet personality. Everything was super clean, with a well stocked kitchen that made just the right tools for a good meal easy to find, and there were so many fun little surprises everywhere - from the artwork, to the wind chimes all over the property, to the amazing shower! The views are beautiful from the two porches, and the whole vibe is perfect for a quiet, restful, inspiring time.

Doug and Jessica were amazing hosts, even welcoming us to the house with a lovely bottle of wine and chocolates! They were very quick to respond to any of our questions (both before we arrived and while we were there) and made my husband and I (and our three dogs) totally welcome in their home.

Without a doubt, this is the most restful vacation we've had in years. Would highly recommend a stay - we will definitely be returning!

Kristyn and Brian visited with their 3 dogs ~ Sonoma Jane, Maddie Lou, & Tessie May! We want to learn what kind of spell they cast on their pooches to leave not a trace of dog anywhere! •
Milagro was spic and span, and we'd love to find out their tricks to keeping a 3-dog home spotless. •
We hope they'll visit again soon, and get to roam around in our four distinct seasons. •
    Thanks Kristyn and Brian,
    your happy hosts,

  • Doug was so friendly and helpful and this special home was far far more beautiful than the photos can ever depict. This is a rare and precious gem of a home and anyone who has a chance to stay here is very lucky indeed. We will treasure and remember our time here celebrating our son's graduation with family and old friends forever. We loved the magic of the fern forest, the lightening bugs dancing in the birches. Friendly neighbors brought over fresh eggs and the homeade goat cheese from nearby was deliscious! Dough and Jessica's home is a treasure--art every where you look. So thoughtful.

Carroll and her family left behind some of the sweetest, most heartfelt entries in our Milagro Guest Book. Each of the guests took the time to thank us, and share the fun experiences they had together as a family.
They are also AirBnB hosts offering horse back riding trips in Mongolia - we are sure to check them out!
In early correspondence Carroll quoted Mary Oliver, who is one of our very favorite poets...
Please visit again, or we'll come see you!

  • This listing was even more than we expected. The house was meticulously and lovingly cared for and in the most peaceful setting that we have ever experienced. The hosts were very attentive to detail, even leaving wine and chocolate for us to enjoy upon our arrival. There were lots of recommendations for local places to visit, even notes about the neighbors. We loved the hammock, the hot tub, and all of the wonderful artwork that adorned this lovely retreat. We highly recommend it!!

Laura and her husband visited with their daughter - a recent graduate from a great New England college! Congratulations to everyone! We were delighted to provide a spot for them to relax together. •
Laura found our favorite spot in the house - the window seat... •

We hope you'll visit again, and suggest Milagro to your friends.

  • My husband, Josh, and I stayed at Milagro for our honeymoon and had a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful time. We brought our pup Addie, who loved running around in the yard and hiking Putney Mountain. The house is beautiful and feels very much like a warm, welcoming home. The hot tub is an added bonus! Our tiny city car handled the back roads to Milagro quite well, but I don't think we would have made it up the hills in the winter or muddy season.

Putney is a great little town, and we loved exploring other areas in Southern Vermont and being able to come home to the comforts of Milagro! We also ventured up the road to meet some neighbors who own goats and departed with some of the most delicious goat cheese we've ever had! A wonderful trip!

Amy and Josh left us wonderful trail-mix goodies from their ceremony, which we will carry on our next hike. Putney Mountain is such a nostalgic climb for us. We are so glad you sampled some of that delicious chévre from up the road. We are so fortunate to live in a place surrounded by foodies... Amy+Josh ~ we wish you all the very best!

  • Doug + Jessica's home was a great place for me and a couple friends to stay over Memorial Day weekend. Amazing kitchen with everything you'd ever need and a great hot tub - the two places we spent most of our time. My friend left behind a few items and Doug + Jessica were kind enough to pop them in the mail. Would definitely book another weekend up in VT at Milagro.

  • My girlfriend and I had the most magical and romantic experience at Milagro. If walking up to the door and seeing the beautiful property upon our arrival wasn't enough of a hint of the weekend we had in store ahead us, the bottle of wine and chocolates they left for us sure were! Whether it was perusing their amazing collection of stories written on the walls, or catching the rising sun from the comfort of a 104° hot tub, the memories were timeless and all around peaceful. Doug and Jessica are the most gracious of hosts, and we love them even without meeting them! Thank you so much, we can't wait to visit again!

  • My wife and friends and I loved Milagro the first time, and it was even better to come back again for a big hitting of the reset button from the city grind. Doug and Jessica have created a beautiful home that's not only peaceful but soulful, and I can't imagine not returning again in the near future.

Greg, thanks so much for visiting again from the big city! We really enjoyed sharing our home with you, and love what you said, "a springtime tradition has been born!"
We look forward to being being part of that tradition, as you are always welcome at Milagro!
