The Space

We have a self contained flat (downstairs apartment in our house) in beautiful Picnic Bay on Magnetic Island.

You'll have your own toilet and shower and a well set-up kitchenette equipped with a fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and a couple of hotplates. There's also a stainless steel electric frypan. You'll also have your own TV and we'll also provide tea and coffee makings.

There's a ceiling fan and a pedestal fan in case you need it on warm days.

There's a private entrance to your flat, and we'll give you a key to your door. So it really is like your own place.

We have a washing machine and a clothes line that you are welcome to use.

The flat is a bit 70s in style...we must get that disco ball to finish it off!

We are a 3 minute walk to glorious Picnic Bay Beach - a really nice swimming beach. (In summer the council puts (email hidden)e bus stop is on the way to the beach. The bus will take you all over the Island including, Nelly Bay, Arcadia and Horseshoe Bay.

The local and much improved Picnic Bay Pub is just near the bus-stop and the beach. The Pub is quite (email hidden) music venue.

There's also a Thai and Chinese restaurant and the fascinating Magnetic Island History and Craft Centre plus a beautiful 9 hole golf course - all about a 5 minute walk away.

The Picnic Bay jetty is an Island landmark and is beaut for an evening stroll or maybe to wet a fishing line. It's less than 5 minutes walk away.

If dance parties are more your thing, X-Base is about a 15-20 minute walk, with spectacular headland views along the way. If you are coming home late at night be sure to take a torch for the bush track. X-Base hold the famous full-moon parties each month.

There are some lovely walks you can take that begin close-by including Sails Rock, Rocky Bay, Cockle Bay and West Point. You can also visit the Ranger's Office to learn about the Island's National Park which covers 70% of the land mass.

We have lived on the Island for more than 20 years* so can give excellent advice on the best places to go and where to see a koala.

We've travelled extensively using Airbnb - so we know what travellers are looking for - a good clean secure space with hosts that are friendly and helpful while not being obtrusive.

Please make contact with us by telling us a bit about yourself/selves before booking the space.

(*We've lived in our present house since late 2012, you might notice that we are doing minor repairs and renovations to the house and as such sometimes the yard can look a bit messy!)

  • Perfect for anyone who just wants to fade into the background and become a local. Penelope and George made me feel so welcome and were great guides as to what was worth seeing on the island as I was only staying a short time. The flat is in a quiet part of Magnetic Island with all the basic amenities needed and the location very easy to get around even without a car. Had a great time and would definitely stay again if decided to visit Maggie Island in the future.

  • Can support all the positive previous reviews. Its a great little place with great hosts. For swimming and snorkelling, we found some of the other bays are better, but its easy to get to them. If you are planning on bussing everything, make sure you are aware that they go roughly on an hourly basis and it takes a fair while to get to the other side of the island.

  • Magnetic Island is a Paradise and Penelope and George were excellent hosts!! They gave great suggestions for walks and wildlife viewing and places to eat. Their flat on Picnic Bay was a perfect place to stay...a well supplied kitchen with a full size fridge and varied cooking opportunities..lots of room and a very comfortable bed...a quick and easy walk to the Picnic Bay Mall and beach and jetty... and to the bus to get to Nelly Bay and Horseshoe Bay and all the rest of the island. Enjoyed my morning coffee with their chooks in the backyard. I had a wonderful weekend stay! I'm recommending their place to everyone!

  • Wonderful hosts full of information about the area. The private space and small kitchen were great, and the yard and birds were a treat. We enjoyed several hikes close by and on the island.

  • I completely share the enthusiasm of previous reviews. The place is not flash but it has a soul and reflects the philosophy of the generous and kind hosts. It is inviting, yet very private (with your own side entrance), with a superbly comfortable bed and a marvelous shower. What more could you want? Picnic Bay is delightfully remote, with the beach almost to yourself, good food and coffee at the pub and stunning views from the various clifftops, easily reached on foot.Because there are so many trees on the esplanade, you can spend all day at the sea without feeling hot or being burnt. My idea of paradise indeed.

Do I have to?
Hello! We've lived and worked on Magnetic Island for 20 + years. (Gee that went fast!) In 2011/12 Georgio (tall handsome guy in the photo) and I travelled the US extensively, we used Airbnb for accommodation almost everywhere we went. We had a ball and decided we'd try being hosts on our return home. Our interests include permaculture, photography, making no-budget short films, bird-watching, canoeing, bike-riding, doing arty things, back-yard badminton, hanging out with our mates drinking cups of tea, coffee or sharing a bottle of wine... We're sure we can make you feel at home on our magnificent World Heritage tropical Island!
