A Detailed Guest Review:
My fiance and I stayed at the this home in Dana Point in July. We drove down to Dana Point from Northern California in order to attend a wedding of good friends at the nearby St. Regis. If you are not willing to pay hefty hotel weekend rates common for the region, this private room rental is exactly what you are looking for.
C & H are the perfect examples of great Airbnb hosts. The kind, welcoming couple turned our trip to Dana Point into a very pleasant stay of which we will have the best memories for a long time to come.
A day before our arrival, H reached out to us by text, confirmed our stay once more and asked us about the approximate time of our arrival in order to be on location once we’d reach Dana Point by car. Right after we rang the doorbell, C & H, who were working around the house appeared at the main door and welcomed us to their home. We immediately were able to connect with our hosts and had great talks about our lives: As it turned out, C’s roots go back to Bern, Switzerland, very close where my fiance and I currently are living. It’s a small world, after all.
During the whole stay, both C & H were not intrusive at all and granted us our privacy. They nevertheless were readily available in case we had special needs and questions: As an example, they let us use their refrigerator to store cheese bought at the local farmer’s market. We also were offered to use the laundry and drier machine without hesitation.
The home is located within one of the many gated communities in Dana Point, easily accessible from major Dana Point roads through two gates with guards on duty. Friday afternoon traffic from Downtown LA was heavy, so you might add another hour to your total itinerary time.
On our first entrance, the guard - already instructed by the hosts - handed us a entry ticket valid for the whole weekend. On consecutive entries, we just presented the printout and then were let into the neighborhood.
The home is located near the main gate, at the end of a cul-de-sac and thus the surroundings are very quiet with no traffic at all. We weren’t sure whether the two neighbors actually were staying in their homes or not.
During our stay, we were allowed to park our rental car (SUV) right in front of the house.
C & H showed us the separate access to our private room, which leads along the pool all the way around the house. This separate entrance allowed us not to bother the hosts when we left for the wedding, the beach or the town. The big terrace is protected from wind and noise by tall glass windows which gives you a breathtaking view of Dana Point, the sea and sunsets. We didn’t use the pool or the beach chairs, but we assume it’s great to relax at the side of your own private pool with this great view.
Inside the private room, the bed is big and comfortably fits two people. Plenty of closet space is provided to stow away luggage and clothes. The bathroom is equipped one toilet, two sinks and a bathtub/shower. Water pressure from the shower-head was great despite the ongoing drought, and also warm water was readily available. Plenty of fresh towels had been piled up for the two of us.
Free WiFi is provided, as well as a TV with some basic HD channels. If you’re into reading, feel free to browse through the book shelf set up in the room with books covering a wide array of topics. You get keys for both the home as well as the door for a pathway which leads you to the beach within a few minutes of walking. The hosts also have prepared a map to show you where exactly the path leads you and which turns you have to take.
When looking at the private bedroom and the bathroom, or also when in the building’s main part, you can find H’s signature decorations all over the place. Her decoration style and the attention to detail makes you immediately feel at home. And we've rarely been at a cleaner home than this one. Flawless!
We wish both C & H all the best, great health and rewarding lives. Thank you!
Meals are not included but you will have full access to the kitchen and refrigerator if you want to do your own cooking.
Please clean up clean dishes and put away, thank you.
No smoking please.
We'll change the sheets and wash the towels after you've gone home. After all, you're on vacation!
We stayed one short night at Heidi's house for a wedding just across the (email hidden)gis - perfect location and amenities for the price! Technically walking distance from the venue, though we took a cab given the August heat.
The room was super comfortable and private, and included extra toiletries in case you forget your toothbrush like I did.
I wish we could have stayed a bit longer to enjoy the location. Heidi and her family were very accommodating and responsive. Highly recommend!
Excellent home away from home when staying in Dana Point. Heidi and Chuck were excellent hosts, even though we didn't have a chance to meet them in person. The room and home was exactly as described and in the pictures (with amazing views of the ocean from the patio). The amenities were great (beach towel, beach blanket, chairs, toiletries, etc.). We were attending a wedding at the Ritz and this was within walking distance (maybe 15 minutes). We would definitely recommend Heidi and Chuck's home if you are staying in the area.
Chuck and Heidi made us feel very welcome and greeted us upon our arrival to acclimate us to their beautiful home and surroundings. We found the photos to accurately represent their property. The little book that listed areas of interest, restaurants, etc.,really helped. We enjoyed several places listed in there...Proud Mary's-awesome view of Dana Harbor and breakfast, Savannah Chop House-Great Happy Hour Menu, Fisherman's Wharf on the Pier at San Clemente- beautiful sunset there. Aliso Creek is a really nice beach to visit. Balboa Island in Newport Beach was also a highlight of our stay, Heisler Park in Laguna Beach is beautiful for panoramic photos of the coastline. Since Chuck and Heidi's home is so centrally located, it's convenient for venturing out. While you do have a limited view of Salt Creek Beach across the highway, it's good to know that it is quite a strenuous walk, but worth it if you're healthy and in good shape. Also, we visited in August and found the wading pool to be a little too chilly for enjoying, but so beautiful to sit beside and look at. Very serene setting.
Heidi and Chuck are consummate hosts who have designed a guest room par excellence. It is beautifully furnished with thoughtful amenities such as electric plugs with USB outlets, chocolates awaiting, soothing artwork, and a helpful orientation pamphlet.
The ocean view, breezes, contemporary and uncluttered atmosphere all beckon, "Rest," to the new guest. This is truly a 5 -star airbnb. We look forward to returning. Thank you.
The house and location were awesome! Chuck and Heidi were awesome hosts. They kept us informed and had great advice on local beaches and restaurants.
We felt very welcome. Heidi had a little guest book with lots of helpful information about the house and area. She also provided a little coffeemaker in the room.
Loved our 4th of July stay. The home is lovely and well kept and Heidi and Chuck are fabulous as hosts. They were great in showing us around and telling us about the area, and gave us privacy when needed. Great vacation overall. Would definitely stay again!
