Romantic large room in downtown centre of the city in large old apartment. Shabby chic interior of loft-style 45 m square room with King Size new bed, sofa, glass dining table and garden table and chairs ( the sun pours into the room in the mornings, so you can get a suntan inside ). At night the location and view is magical, being right in the heart of the city lights and the non-stop buzz of cool nightlife. There’s even a 24 hour fruit stall and shop on the street below. With a supermarket across the square and so many other great stores. It has the best view of the Baszilika ( Cathedral with Dome ) in the city and tall windows with wooden shutters overlooking the square and views to Deak Ter , where the three main lines meet at this central Metro station ( M1, M2, M3 metros). One stop from Metro station," Arany Janos Street " which is on the doorstep of the building. The best places are in easy walking distance, epecially around the Cathedral Square, the Hungarian State Opera House, the best restaurants and nightlife and the River Danube.
The bathroom and toilet are very retro and the kitchen quite primitive, although stocked with everything you need to cook or even have a dinner party. but who wants to eat in when you are on holiday here???
Artist easel if you want to paint the view. Its one of the most spectacular in the city. Films have been made in the flat and of the view.
Although I live in the other part of the flat I am away a lot so you would probably have the place to yourselves.
I now have WIFI in the flat.
We stayed here over New Years and it was perfect, with a view of St Stephens Basilica to wake up to and its central location that made it easy to get around, we would definitely stay here again! Sylvia was extremely helpful offering up plenty of local advise, pointing out some great spots to visit and even invited us to join her at an underground fashion show that you wouldn't have seen if you were just walking past. This was our first time using Air B&B and it was such a great experience that we will definitely be doing it again!
If you choose to stay on the Pest rather than the Buda side, then this apartment boasts an excellent location, with one metro line M3 just outside your door that takes you to all the key attractions on the Pest side (eg Heroes Sq, Museum of Fine Art, the gorgeous Vajdahunyad Castle, adjacent to it mega skating ring which is such fun, and Szechenyi baths) and another 2min walk away the M1 line that, amongst other things, takes you to the Opera, the Jewish Quarter etc). The beautiful St Stephens Basilica is not only 300m down the street it is visible from your window! Sylvia left me to my own devices, and for the 3 night stay I had the apartment to myself, and that was just fine with me, she is kind and attentive should you need her help though. Yes, you may get soft towels and normal hair dryer somewhere else, and avoid the quirks of this apartment, but then you will not be paying this price - I thought it was great value for money! We had a few connection issues, so make sure you call her HU and not UK number, as the latter always goes straight to voicemail and no reply as it wasn't functional. Whatever you do, do not use the UK number that Airbnb sends you with your invoice & itinerary/confirmation or you will be stranded like me and not able to get into the apartment. To be sure, ask Sylvia for the Hungarian number once you have booked and program it. Once you have that, she instantly answers your calls and is always ready to help. Sylvia was really worried that the room will be cold, and yes, it is a little fresh, so bring PJs or long sleeved t-shirt, but Sylvia kindly left the heater on all day, and I was never cold in this airy lovely room, though I kept the shutters closed most of the time on the huge floor to ceiling windows. If you are noise sensitive, bring earplugs as this is the price to pay for being right in the centre of things, it is quite loud despite double windows. If you want to spend time on the Buda side more than Pest, as I did, there is bus 16 about 10min walk away from the apartment that takes you all the way to the Buda side and all the key attractions there. If you are going to Rudas baths (in my opinion the best option if you must just choose one for your stay), No.16 gets you most of the way there, tram it with 19 or 41 for the reminder of the way. I do not know what it would be like if the temperature drops below zero or is very hot, but at normal 5C-1C the flat was just fine, and I heartily recommend it. If I go solo again, I cannot think of a better place to stay, not to mention at that...
Sylvia has a lovely sunlit spaceous room, and she is a gem of a host(ess)... most attentive, friendly, helpful and if you are lucky enough to have the opportunity, wonderful entertaining company for a cup of tea and a chat when she has time.
Sylvia is a wonderful host extremely generous and open . The room is fantastic , big , and decorated with a lot of taste . View on the Basilik is unique . I would have loved to stay longer ;-)
The reservation was canceled 6 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Really enjoyed staying at Sylvias studio in Budapest ..Huge space and very comfortable . lots of chats and help getting around Budapest as well as always knowing there is someone there to call if lost or stuck . Very generous and helpful lovely person . Central location too . See you again soon !
The stay at Sylvia's was a very pleasant one. She's an open and welcoming host and she looks after her guest very well. She's very communicative, doesn't mind if you're home (very) late or discuss your check-in-and -out-times.
Sylvia's in the Old-button-trade, so if you are thinking of nice little gift...look in your (grand)ma's drawer!
The location is perfect: right in the centre of town. The room is enormous: you can practice your dancing-skills on the wooden floor. The bed is also perfect: you can practice other skills there...
The minibus-connection is not cheap, but for a non-Hungarian much easier that the metro, for it drops you in front of the house and it drives you around the city, giving you a nice little tour!
There are those experiences in life when you are lucky to get what you expect and others when your expectations are exceeded. Thanks to Sylvia and her welcoming artist's studio, my experience in Budapest was beyond expectation. Sylvia is not just a 'landlady', having some hungarian heritage, she is an ambassador for the city, giving guests a local point of view while also understanding what it is to be a visitor.
The location and outlook were better than I initially believed. (website hidden) maps/street view is not always helpful in this way.
As a solo female traveller, my surroundings were important to assess prior to my arrival. Sylvia assured me of my security and safety.
Thanks to Mother Nature, I was able to enjoy the spectacle of a Thunder & Lightning Storm above St Stephen's Basilica ... which is only a few steps away from the apartment.
There is an argument as to whether Buda or Pest are the more 'favoured' of locales. As a tourist and, indeed, someone who likes to engage in the pulse of a place, I would say Pest every time. Buda is fascinating (and very easy to access from this apartment) but Pest is just as appealing and, the night life is, again, within easing walk.
I stayed 3 nights but would have preferred a week.
Thank you Sylvia AND Budapest for a highly memorable visit, the first of several I hope!
Unpossible to find a better place or a more friendly host !!! I give maximum stars .
First the host: Sylvia who is charming and magnificent.
She is most hospitable and frank.
Even before we arrived the exchange of informative letters were incredible.
She explained to us how to get to the apartment, which taxis to take and which taxis not to take... What are the tourist places to visit, what are the forth and coming attractions.
As soon as we arrived at the apartment, she welcomed us with her sweet and humble way.
The room is magnificent and is even more beautiful than the pictures.
She then escorted us around the city and recommended for us places that we should go and visit.
Truly this has been an incredible experience, one that I would recommend to anyone else.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
