About this listing
Featured in Family Traveller magazine ((website hidden)), this nature inspired property is the perfect blend of high end Bali villa-meets super comfortable family home. A favourite for small retreats, family getaways and reunions.
Villa Aalaya (Sanskrit for 'Home") is a beautiful villa made up of three antique teak buildings. The Joglo is our daytime space; containing the kitchen, dining room and sitting area, this building is completely open to the beautiful view of the forest, gorge and rice fields. Group dinners are great on our 4m x 1.5m teak dining table!
The Limasan is our private space, containing three bedrooms, a TV area, our library and two upper floor loft spaces (office and sacred space) The giant timbers and 40 foot ceilings create a stunning space to relax in.
Finally, the Gladak is a separate, self contained bedroom, made entirely of teak with its own private outdoor bathroom and veranda, mini fridge and coffee/tea making facilities.
The master bedroom has a king sized bed on a tatami platform, with a TV, 2 closets, a sunken tub and separate shower.
The two bedrooms are spacious with two single beds in one, and a custom made double bed with a pull out single underneath if required. They share a bathroom which is all glass (including the roof!) with huge trees overhead, an outdoor shower and a giant two person jacuzzi tub.
The property has a curved infinity pool overlooking the ricefiled and gorge, a trampoline (built into the ground, with net around), a fire pit for camp fires, huge beautiful trees and a bamboo grove. There is lots of parking and it is located 100m off the village road down a private driveway, so there it is very quiet.
Villa Aalaya is located 1.4km from the main road of Ubud in the village of Kutuh Kaja. The Ubud Botanical Gardens is 500m further up our street, and the only gym in Ubud is 700m from our house.
This is a family home we finished in December 2011 and live in, and it was designed with children in mind. We only rent it out while we are on vacation.
It comes with a Villa Manager to help with any questions/concerns and is fully serviced.

We have a full time house manager...she can be reached by phone or in person throughout your stay to help with anything you may need,
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful house looking on the rice paddies. The rooms were extremely comfortable, the outdoor bathrooms amazing and all beautifully decorated. We were extremely well taken care of by Badra, who drove us to and from the villa, Ajeng who helped coordinate scooters and booked us massages at the villa, Ibu Komet and Ibu Made and their delicious food (we ended up having dinner at the house all three nights!). This is a great house in a great location for a wonderful Ubud experience.
Unfortunately we had to cancel our stay at the last minute due to the volcanic ash cloud (our flight was cancelled). Steve and Renee were very fair in the way we worked out arrangements.
We had a wonderful time at Villa Alaya! It was wonderful to have so much open space, good sized bedrooms and bathrooms and the amazing pool with views to the rice paddies. The kids loved the trampoline and the swing as well as the pool and Luna the dog.
Every morning we woke up to a freshly cooked breakfast (Ibu Made's granola was addictive...), and the dinner that Ibu Made cooked for us twice was probably the best food we had in Bali. We were very well taken care of by Ajeng the house manager and Badra the driver.
The house was a great setup for our family of 6 with 4 children ages 18 months to 10 years. From the badminton set, swings and trampoline to the swimming pool and Luna the dog, our kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Ibu Made cooked delicious food and the staff were wonderful to us. We enjoyed our stay in Ubud at Villa Aayala!
A memorable holiday in a beautiful setting with a very well appointed home.
It was perfect for our family of 3 generations meeting up from Australia, NZ, Singapore and London. We overflowed to the 2 bedroom house next door which was equally good.
We spent a lot of time in and around the pool and my 3 year old granddaughter loved the swings.
All the staff were most kind and helpful. We ate in 3 nights out of 5, enjoying Ibu Made's culinary skills...loved the Pumpkin Pie.
This place is absolutely wonderful. The staff is fantastic and the food is great (Ibu Made's pumpkin pie is as good as advertised). The access to Ubud is great and Badra will take you anywhere. We've stayed in a lot of Airbnb houses and this one is up near the top. If you like hanging in a beautiful pool and eating well then stay here.

About the Host, Steve And Renee
We are from Canada, and have been working our way around the world... first with the UN and now in social enterprise.
We have two 'third culture kids' who attend the Green School because we believe in sustainability, global leadership and community.
Our style of hosting is simple: we set you up with everything you need in our "Welcome Pack' (local phone numbers, activities, restaurant suggestions) and hope you will enjoy the adventure of getting to know Bali on your own... which is sometimes smooth as silver.... and other times, a little rocky. Ubud is a magical place with lots of opportunity to eat, live and learn well. B
We especially welcome guests from exotic places and families with small children who like to play!
