About this listing

Featured in Family Traveller magazine, and soon the NYT and NatGeo, this nature inspired property is the perfect blend of high end Bali villa-meets super comfortable family home. A favourite for small retreats, family getaways and reunions.

The space

Villa Aalaya (Sanskrit for 'Home") is a beautiful villa made up of three antique teak buildings. The Joglo is our daytime space; containing the kitchen, dining room and sitting area, this building is completely open to the beautiful view of the forest, gorge and rice fields. Group dinners are great on our 4m x 1.5m teak dining table!

The Limasan is our private space, containing three bedrooms, a TV area, our library and two upper floor loft spaces (office and sacred space) The giant timbers and 40 foot ceilings create a stunning space to relax in.

Finally, the Gladak is a separate, self contained bedroom, made entirely of teak with its own private outdoor bathroom and veranda, mini fridge and coffee/tea making facilities.

The master bedroom has a king sized bed on a tatami platform, with a TV, 2 closets, a sunken tub and separate shower.

The two bedrooms are spacious with two single beds in one, and a custom made double bed with a pull out single underneath if required. They share a bathroom which is all glass (including the roof!) with huge trees overhead, an outdoor shower and a giant two person jacuzzi tub.

The property has a curved infinity pool overlooking the ricefiled and gorge, a trampoline (built into the ground, with net around), a fire pit for camp fires, huge beautiful trees and a bamboo grove. There is lots of parking and it is located 100m off the village road down a private driveway, so there it is very quiet.

Villa Aalaya is located 1.4km from the main road of Ubud in the village of Kutuh Kaja. The Ubud Botanical Gardens is 500m further up our street, and the only gym in Ubud is 700m from our house.

This is a family home we finished in December 2011 and live in, and it was designed with children in mind. We only rent it out while we are on vacation.

It comes with a Villa Manager to help with any questions/concerns and is fully serviced.

Fantasic villa looking over the Ubud jungle. Badra and staff took really great care of us and were extremely kind and professional. Our group of 4 couples had a really great time. The villa was very spacious, fully equipped with everything we needed and clean. Would recommend for any large group looking for a place to stay in Ubud, Bali.

The house is beautiful and feels like it's set in the jungle. It's clean and comfortable with all the amenities you need. It's set out of Ubud centre so it quiet and serene. It's a 15-20 minute walk to the centre or around $5-6 AUD in a taxi. You can't get a taxi on the street outside the villa so will need to pre arrange one with a driver in town or book through one of the apps. We used their recommended driver Badra, who was brilliant and had dinne cooked a few times by Made which was fantastic. Overall a great stay.

We were a group of 5 adults and 2 small grandchildren (4 months & 3+ years).. celebrating my wife's 70th birthday. we had 8 nights at the villa and loved it.. the accommodation suited us well.. the infinity pool was used by all especially the 3 year old.. it was clear, clean and warm! We dined in EVERY night c/- Ibu Made who cooked our dinners to perfection ( and cleaned up!). We had breakfast made for us every day by the young girls.. who also cleaned up everything.. we had enough leftovers from breakfast & dinner to provide day long snacks & lunch. Badra the driver picked us up and dropped us off at the airport.. it is a 90 mins or so journey. We also used him frequently for tourist trips and visits to COCO ( supermarket for grog!). We used the recommended masseur twice and rated her as one of the best ever! and at $15/hour great value. The Wifi stopped c/- a cable cut on the main street two days from end.. before that it was fine and the cable TV including Fox sports was a plus for a golf fan! There are a lot of mossies around so take care with small children.. it is just part of being in Bali. The rooms were spacious and cleaned every day and the configuration suited us well. It is a 25 minute walk downhill to the main part of Ubud.. make sure you visit Ubud Palace for the traditional Legong dance show on a Sunday night [ Badra organised tickets and transport]. We experienced the annual Hindu festival of Nyepi which meant staying home for 24 hours.. no lights and no flights.. time to meditate!!..Check it out it for details and the night before with the giant Ogoh-Ogoh's!! all in all a great break and overall very affordable The key to our visit was the can do staff and their friendly disposition. Go there!

We had an enjoyable stay in Ubud. The villa was just like it is in the pics. Very tasetfully done, a lot of activities to keep the young kids occupied. The villa staff is very eager to please though the cook/ housekeeper do not speak fluent english they can accommodate most requests. It is a very beautiful villa. Badra (the driver) was a highlight. always smiling and prompt he made our trip memorable as he served as a guide as well. We were a party of eight ( from 7 years to 75 years) and he showed a lot of respect and took great care of every body. No brainer engaging him for your stay. we had a 15 seater van that he had arranged for. The place is 10 mins drive from Ubud's main street. my guess is 30 mins walk but the road is too narrow with traffic and hence we did not walk. There is one organic restaurant nearby. a small place but it had good organic juices and coffee. The only thing about this villa like many other reviewers have commented is that one needs to be prepared for the bugs/ lizards and other creatures that appear at night. truly eco-friendly and in tune with nature but still needs getting used to.

We are a family of 7 persons and had an absolutely wonderful stay at Villa Aalaya. The villa itself is an antique and inside is decorated with tastes that make us feel heartwarming. The villa manager Ajeng is polite and responsive to our needs. The housemaids cook delicious Balinase breakfast. And Badra is the best driver and tour guide ever! We also tried several of the restaurants that Steve recommend in renter's guide. They were all great! Highly recommend! A wonderful stay at Ubud and villa Aalaya!

Nature outdoor shower and huge massage bathtub. Friendly and professional villa manager, housekeeper, chef and driver. Highly recommend if you're looking for Ubud villa.

Eight of us enjoyed a wonderful four nights. The villa exceeded all expectations. The photos on Airbnb don't do it justice - it's a wonderful home. The main street is not far, the in-house cooking was fantastic, and Ajeng is an excellent manager.

Ajeng User ProfileAjeng is a superhost.

We are from Canada, and have been working our way around the world... first with the UN and now in social enterprise.

We have two 'third culture kids' who attend the Green School because we believe in sustainability, global leadership and community.

Our style of hosting is simple: we set you up with everything you need in our "Welcome Pack' (local phone numbers, activities, restaurant suggestions) and hope you will enjoy the adventure of getting to know Bali on your own... which is sometimes smooth as silver.... and other times, a little rocky. Ubud is a magical place with lots of opportunity to eat, live and learn well.

We especially welcome guests from exotic places and families with small children who like to play!
