Description

The space

Private bedroom and bathroom in updated 1914 craftsman house with modern furnishings. The house is 1500 sq ft with original beautiful box beam ceilings and leaded glass windows and hardwood floors. There is central heat and air conditioning, so you will keep cool in the summer.

The guest room is on the main floor of the house with private bathroom nearby. The room is furnished with a queen bed, dresser, small closet with hangers, luggage rack and laundry hamper. The queen bed is outfitted with cotton sheets, a couple different types of pillows, down alternative duvet and cotton duvet cover. The bathroom is always equipped with towels, hair dryer, toilet paper, soap, shampoo and conditioner. There are usually extra goodies like shaving cream, q-tips, razors and lotions too.

Guest access

The main floor kitchen, living areas and TV room (50" TV) are shared with me. You are also welcome to relax on the front porch or back deck.

My bed and bath are located on the second level, so no guests upstairs, please.

Interaction with guests

My interaction with guests depends on the guest and my schedule during that time. I may be home making breakfast or cooking pies, hosting a Sangria party on the deck (you're welcome to join) or I may be out of the house busy with activities. I usually try to make myself available to guests on their first day to show them around, answer questions and suggest activities. Please let me know if you are looking to share meals, need an itinerary or prefer to be left alone and I'll do my best to accommodate.

I clean the guest areas before you arrive and when you leave, but I don't typically clean or tidy the guest spaces during a stay. If you need fresh towels or toilet paper during your stay, make sure to let me know.

The neighborhood

Wallingford is one of Seattle's many great neighborhoods. The area is centrally located (about 4 miles from downtown), but is relatively quiet with mostly single family housing (making parking easier than other areas). The neighborhood is very walkable with access to grocery store, bars, restaurants, movies, parks and anything else you could possibly want. While there are several bars that stay open late, other night life and food access after 10pm is someone limited.

Getting around

As mentioned above, there is plenty to walk to in the neighborhood. The house is also walking to U-district & Greenlake, easy bus access to Downtown #16 & Ballard #44 & Fremont. There's always Lyft and Uber if you don't feel like taking the bus.

If you drive, ample street parking is available. If you need a lift from the airport, I recommend A-ABC transportation (they charge $40, which is much cheaper than a cab). If you are on a budget, you may consider a combination of Light Rail and Bus from the airport.

House Rules
Check in is anytime after 1PM

- No smoking in house or on porch/deck.
- Don't let the cat outside or accidentally lock her in your room.
- Quiet hours after 10pm. I have to get up early for work. Your room and the TV room hold sound in pretty well with the door shut, so if you're in there, you don't need to worry about sound.
- No overnight guests (approved exceptions made for long term guests).
- No shoes in house (shoes are noisy for apartment below and track in dirt).
- Clean up after yourself in the kitchen. Please wash all items or place in the dishwasher and make sure to wipe down the counters if you make a mess.

Joanna's place is clean, quiet, and comfortable. Additionally, it is walking distance to beautiful downtown Wallingford and public transit(bus). I had an excellent stay in Seattle and I would recommend this room to friends or family looking to visit as well.

I stayed with Joanna for almost 2 months as I transitioned to Seattle from the East Coast. It was a perfect choice for me. Joanna is very open and accommodating, and is very experienced and comfortable with having people stay. I especially liked my own private bathroom, and full use of the lower part of the house - which helped since I used the kitchen and the living area space (and the TV room). The bedroom was small and cozy. I loved the location - the house is situated on a busy street, but because it sits high, you don't hear much traffic noise. The advantage is that it is super convenient to the I-5 and 99 so you can get around Seattle very quickly from there. The surrounding neighborhood is quiet and nice - on-street parking is extraordinarily easy. Then, the central Wallingford district is only a short 5 blocks away - literally about a 6 minute walk. I often didn't need to use my car for days at a time - a great grocery store right there, fabulous and reasonably priced Thai, Japanese, Mexican and Trinidadian food just steps away, and a nice Vietnamese lady to cut hair! And, Green Lake and running opportunities are a short distance from the house, as is the zoo. Buses just a block from the house take you right downtown. All in all, a great place to begin my education about my new city!

Joanna's place was as advertised. Conveniently located just north of Seattle's city center. Her house is beautiful you will enjoy staying here if you have an appreciation for old craftsman homes. Joanna was also super responsive to any questions we had. Although accessible via Uber (12-15 min drive to downtown, 10 to Ballard) I would recommend renting a car (which we did), we did not find parking an issue in the busiest parts of town.

Joanna's place was exactly as described. Clean and cozy! The bed was very comfortable, and the fresh sheets made the experience that much better. Bathroom amenities provided were much appreciated. The location was also very convenient. Having access to the kitchen, sitting on the deck and her cute cat were also big bonuses for us. Would definitely stay again!

Joanna's place was cosy, full of character, friendly and unfussy. My wife and I booked three nights -- a trip we simply couldn't afford to make at the going hotel rates in town. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed was quite comfortable. We took advantage of coffee and fresh fruit which was provided for us. Stores, cafes, bars and restaurants are a short stroll away in Wallingford. We went for a jog around Green Lake on our first night which is one of the things that endeared us to the house and the neighbourhood. Did not rent a car but found that it was easy and inexpensive to take the bus downtown or to Capitol Hill. The Woodland Park Zoo was a ten or fifteen minute walk away. The sound of traffic was audible from our room but the quality of it was something like white noise; it did not disturb us. Pepi (the cat) was a plus. She was a bit shy but it was nice to come "home" and find her curled up on the carpet. Joanna would make a great roommate and her place is perfect for a short or long term stay.
