An old house into the rock in the old Jewish ghetto of Modica in Sicily, recovery houses craft equipped with traces of the past ,ideal place to escape from the chaotic urban rhythms.
Time has left a precious and valuable strain in this baroque city in the west of Sicily, Modica hides an ancient heart of the most beautiful in the world: the old city of Modica.
The house consists in two bedrooms in part in the cave, a bathroom and a spacious living area with a kitchen, from the balcony and the roof terrace you can enjoy a beautiful view over the city and the Baroque church of St. George, patron saint of the City, and St. Peter.
You can walk through the narrow and lovely streets or going down a few steps to reach the city center where you can taste the typical chocolate, the best of Sicily, and not only still made according to an ancient Mayan recipe, the delicious Granita (flavor ice drink) and cannoli or find other wonders of the local cuisine.
The house is reached by foot, the narrow streets do not allow access to 'car that can be left near the house in (about mt 200) boarding school St. Anne High School.
Modica, birthplace of the poet S. Quasimodo, a place where culture and art are mingle, and cobbled winding streets, steps that are on the verge of collapse as overwhelmed by a powerful earthquake or upheaval in the grip of a raging sea that has been suddenly petrified. Patches of lichens cover the walls of the old houses located next to monumental buildings. A mad genius seems to have had fun creating these topographic forms that are quirky and capricious vagaries of nature and man.
Here you can visit the more than 100 churches, the castle that overlooks it, follow itineraries in different neighborhoods, visit its churches into the rock.
The nearest sea is reachable by car in about 20 minutes and is Sanpieri (also served by public transportation) with the beach of pink sand dunes of "Pisciotto" topped with a decadent furnace resumed several times in the TV drama "Montalbano".
Not far from the natural reserve of Vendicari with its wild beaches there is the small and cute Marzamemi built around a noble Tonnara (where you can find a really fresh tuna), for those who prefer the comforts of Marina di Modica, Pozzallo largely equipped and with a very live nightlife.
The town has shops, a hospital and railway station. Is close to the most beautiful baroque cities of Sicily, Ragusa, Noto, Scicli, reachable in about an hour from Syracuse. You can also rent a car from Catania (at the airport are almost all companies) or convenient bus that in about an hour and a half will carry you to Modica.
It is a nice flat in the center of Bologna. Everything is possible to reach by foot. The flat is real big and friendly. The conversation by e-mail or sms was good. If we visit Bologna again, we will take the flat again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Michela's apartment. She met us when we arrived and showed us the features of her apartment. Several days before our arrival, there was a switch in which apartment we'd be staying in, but it turned out to be virtually identical. They both have an enclosed terrace (not an open terrace like another reviewer expected, but the view over the wall of the towers is spectacular. You are in the heart of the University district which makes things feel lively, and yes there is some noise, but the windows are insulated and block the sound when closed. It is an attic apartment, hence the view, but if you are tall, you learn to slouch in strategic places to miss bumping your head on the old timbers that make up the ceiling of the apartment in a charming historical building with an ancient well in the center.. You can drink the water from the tap and the kitchen is basic - no toaster or microwave, but great gas stove. There is strong WiFi and grocery stores and open vegetable markets nearby. It is about a 40 minute walk from the train station with luggage. We would definitely recommend this place
We rented a studio in july to stay in bologna in September.
One week before our arrival we received a mail in poor English from Michela to inform us that she changed all the pictures on the site of airbnb by another similar studio because the one we rented was no longer available because of technical problems. To take it for granted.
When we arrived we noticed that the different studio we had was only having a very small walled terrace with no view. While we booked a studio with a terrace overlooking the rooftops and the hills of bologna to have a drink in the evening.
You had to climb on a chair to see the towers of bologna. The original studio we rented did had a nice terrace. And after all during our stay we noticed it was rented to someone else.
In general the studio we finally got was big but old and with old furniture, old bathroom and no real views on the surroundings because there were only windows in the roof. There was also a strange smell and because of the first week of university there was a lot of noise of the partying student till morning dawn. We never met Michela because she lives in Sicily. In her review she is really mean and upset because we asked for a compensation because we did not get the studio we originally booked and what we expected. I hope she will respect her customers more in the future.
clean, small, simple, apartment in a housing complex surrounded by pines. the apartment has a balcony with a cute little bench and view on the pine grove in the centre of the residential complex. we highly appreciated the closeness to the beach as well as to the shopping promenade (both ways: 2 min by foot). The apartment is situated at the second floor and offers air conditioning, a washing machine and an elevator. Even though we did not meet Michela in person, communication with her was always very easy, reliable and friendly. She provided us with helpful information and directions to the apartment and the place to pick up the keys. All in all we had a really pleasant stay.
Michela's flat is really pleasant and we had a wonderful stay. The flat is exactly as on the pictures, and its equipment comprises everything you could wish, from wifi to washing machine, from ironing to cooking kits. The bathroom is indeed great. But the apartment highlight is its terrace: the view on Bologna's roofs is just amazing!
The location is really good: the area is very lively, with many caffès, trattorias and gelaterias (!), and of course much to visit. All historical sites are accessible within a short walk time (10 minutes).
The only disadvantage of this location is that the street is noisy. We had a very hot weather during our stay, and needed to open the windows at night to refresh the air (no air conditioning). It's been sometimes difficult to get asleep... But the temperature is not always that high (35 to 40°C), so it might not be a problem in other times.
To finish with, Michela has been charming. She's always replied very quickly to all the messages and questions I've sent her. She had prepared useful informations for our stay. It's been a pleasure!
My boyfriend and I stayed here in May and we absolutely loved Michela's apartment. It is even better than the photos show. We spent a lot of time on the gorgeous balcony with it's amazing view of the rooftops, towers and surrounding hills. The apartment was large with views from the bathroom and the bedroom. The location was fantastic and Michela was very helpful with recommendations on local food and museums, and communication with her was easy. I would definately stay here again.
Michela's apartment was a beautiful, spacious, clean and centrally located flat in the heart of Bolognia centre, in a beautiful old building. Kitchen and bathroom were equipped with all modern amenities, there were wooden floors and classic furniture, and the cutest little terrace was outside the bedroom overlooking the tiled tops of Bolognia buildings, which actually made going up so many stairs totally worth it! All historical buildings were accessible on foot. We didn't actually get to see Michela in person, but managed to communicate with her. The overall impression was an excellent one, definitely recommend!
Michela greeted my wife and I at the designated time and gave us a run-down of the apartment as well as important details on accessing town etc. The apartment was as described and met all our needs. We especially appreciated the closeness to main attractions and enjoyed having our breakfast on the balcony. This was a most enjoyable experience. For those who are older they need to bear in mind that the apartment is on the third floor and that might prove taxing carrying luggage to that third level. We would love to visit again!!!
Had a great weekend at Bologna, the apartment was beautiful. Especially the balcony with the evening sun shining over the old city centre of Bologna! Thanks a lot :)
