This one is special! Staying in walking distance to the main touristic attractions (Barra, Campo Grande), with the possibility to stay at your own pace and discover Salvadors reality.
We have our house and a small cultural center in a very simple and low-income neighbourhood, right in between the most expensive districts of Salvador. We offer a million dollar view - and a reality check for openminded people.
The neighborhood is green, quiet, with direct sea access - a small urban community with a 200 inhabitants. But don't fear to be in touch with poor people!
Just around the corner, you'll find supermarkets, cultural institutes, theaters, language schools… Barra Beach or Campo Grande are just 10 minutes walk away…
there is a direct bus from the aiport, a lot of other busses in all directions… taxi to pelourinho is just 10 reais, direct bus to rio vermelho… You can come home late, as everybody knows each other - it's like in a village on the country side.
Our house has huge verandas, is open & fresh, the livingroom is a loft; and we even have a small garden! You can use / share the american kitchen ( low standard), there are 3 bathrooms in the house, we have a washingmachine and Wifi internet. All our rooms are very simple, but have what you need.
The luxury is the gorgeous view with the sunset in front of you, green spaces around the house, you hear the click clack of the sea and the chant of the birds…
But be aware: there's no TV, no Air Condition, Fans or Stereo-Sound, no standard furniture - we are community improvised…!
We are renting 2 guestrooms with small balcony facing Bahia de Todos os Santos short term.
You will share the house with artists and activists… we run a social and cultural center for the community.
Be aware that Salvador is a violent city - but our community is proud to be one of the communities with the lowest violence-index of Salvador - since 70 years!
we are looking forward to meet interesting people!
PS: we speak portuguese, english, french, italien, spanish, german… and communicate in any langage!

To stay in Sivia and Celias place was a great pleasure for us. It was very uncomplicated and enjoyable to stay in there beautyfull place. The neighborhood is very friendly and the house has the most stunning view. They are very communictative and helpful hosts, we enjoed our stay there! Thanks a lot for the nice time we could spend with you! Franziska & Tim
We only spent 2 days there, but we could feel the special vibe of the place. We felt save & could get around with bus & taxi. Awesome view & great talk with the owners. Highly recommended to go there while your stay in Salvador - outside of the old town. We wish all the best for Silvia - keep on realizing your ideas!
Well, if you want to be disrespected this is the right place!
Further, the problems I'll mention below, you can rely on the total disinterest of the host concerning your claims.
What happens in this house:
- difficult access, you will have to be balanced on a steep slope
- Hosts talking and mocking about your claim at 7 a.m.
- cockroaches and spiders in the room (if you don't like to deal with these insects, she says that you have phobia...)
- warm and muggy rooms (you can get some sleep if you pay a fee for a fan)
- in a double bed you have only one pillow (so, you can share!)
- only cold water in the shower
PS: the view is really beautiful
Conclusion: I didn't trust the negative comments, now I understand... no wonder, the cancellation is rigorous.
My arrival was quite difficult since the only number provided was a mailbox. I arrived later in the eve so there was a fair chance of not getting into the house. but eventually with the help of neighbours (who dont speak anything but portuguese) we managed to find someone to open doors. The housing was quite tidy for brazilian standards and people were really nice to help out with any information of locations in the city. We had though couple incidents of people asking for money at our doors which could have been unpleasant if I was on my own. Bottomline, its a great social project worth supporting with quite nice people with an incredibly beautiful view from your room but be aware of usual safety consiousness and different standards - its Brasil!
We spent four wonderful days in Salvador. We didn't get the chance to meet Silvia but we shared some incredible evening with Frank, Julie and Lena. The rain kept us in the house so we looked every single day at the amazing view on the sunset. Thanks again for all. We could never find a place like this without you.

We stayed at Silvia's place during the middle of Carnaval! Carnaval in Salvador is WILD, and it was fantastic staying at Silvia's as, though it's in the middle of all the action (walking distance to two main circuits), it was a little oasis. Great views with perfect sunsets each evening.
As stated in the listing, the apartment is in a poorer area of Salvador (in the middle of two "richer" parts). Don't let that scare you as we found the residents of this very small favela to be friendly and accepting (lots of Oi, Ola, and Tudo bem). I felt like some of the neighbourhood guys were also looking out for my friend and I. There is a grocery store nearby and a few small convenience stores. Restaurants are a bit more of a walk, about 10-20 min. The more historic parts of town are 3-4 km away, about a R$20 cab ride, which is quite inexpensive in my opinion.
The apartment itself is basic and it's almost all outdoor living. The photos are quite accurate. We stayed in a suite on the second floor. The stairs to the second floor are the spiral type and very narrow (if you have balance or leg issues this may be a deterrent). They have two very friendly cats. The apartment has everything you need, but not the fanciest presentation. If you are high maintenance, then this place is NOT for you. If you are willing to try something a bit different from the usually Airbnb place you'll be pleasantly surprised. The wifi was a bit spotty; seemed to work about 70% of the time. The showers weren't that warm, but I never felt the need to take a hot shower (you're near the equator for Pete's sake!). The beds are not the comfiest, but were fine for our few days stay. My favourite part was waking up to the sound of waves crashing on the shore (it's in the middle of the city, so I thought this was quite special).
Silvia and her partner are a wealth of information. They gave us lots of useful tips about where to eat, sight-see, and general safety-tips. Both are very easy going and respectful. Both are super cool and easy to talk to; they have some amazing stories to tell!
I would definitely consider staying here if I'm in Salvador again. My friend and I had a wonderful time here.
If you are looking for a simple, authentic and bautiful place to stay in Salvador with nice and warm communal space to share things with your hosts and the other travellers then Silvia's place is just perfect. It is only a few minutes walk from Porto de Barra praia, lies in a small relaxed community neighborood, has the most bautiful views.... and you can hear the waves and feel sea breeze from your bedroom :)
My only regret is that i could not stay longer !
very nice experience in Bahia and a lot of fun with Franck,( wonderful host); The location is great ( best area: small favela, relax and close to the sea ,in the center of bahia ) just blocks from the the beach and not far from the historic center. anda wonderful view !
I loved the location although its a little hard to find. All the people their were very kind and generous. I will definitely stay there again.
