Double Room in Victorian house. 2 minutes to Hackney Downs Station and under 10 minutes to Liverpool Street station. So the location is in a very central London position (Zone 2) and in the heart of the most up and coming area of London.
One stop fom Hackney Central Station is a couple of stops to Stratford, the home of the Olympics 2012.
The house has a rustic, curiosity- feel from teasures found in the many trendy fleamarket s and vintage shops in the area. Very nearby is London Fields where there is a heated outdoor swimming pool and Ridley Road Market where there are lots of ethnic food and fashions.
It is a vegetarian house, but easy-going and Bohemian, sharing it with a 23 year old young man and 45 year old, Heath, who is also an artist/ musician and two nice cats who live downstairs. We even supply ashtrays on request!
There is WIFI in the house so if it rains you can relax inside. But there's so much to do in the surrounding areas. if you like Art and Museums, therse the Museum of Childhood at nearby Bethnal Green, the lesser known, Geoffrey Museum takes you through the English Interiors through the ages and at Walthamstow you can see the home of William Morris (Arts and Crafts) .
On a Saturday or Sunday we like to go to the Boot fair (Garage sale) at a nearby School and are always happy with our bargains.
** The photo of the smallest room with a pot cupboard in it, is now being converted to a shower room/ extra bathroom. It's not quite ready yet but any day now!**
**One of our Reviewers has said the Hackney Downs station is not open on weekends - this was only prior to the Olympics.**
What more could we ask for?! We were greeted by Sylvia, Heath and their beautiful cat plus a lovely cup of tea. The house is absolutely stunning with so much character and a very comfy bed! Sylvia and Heath were the perfect hosts - friendly, warm and helpful. I will definitely be staying again when I next head to London. I would 100% recommend Sylvia's place. Thank you!!
Sylvia is the most welcoming host! Her house is warm and cozy and the bedroom large and comfortable. Book this you won't regret it!
I really enjoyed my stay. Everything was great. Sylvia and Heath are excellent hosts. Thank you!
Brilliantly supported by her partner, Heath, Sylvia is an enchanting, welcoming hostess, whose natural warmth (and Heath's) is reflected in the wonderfully friendly, relaxed and generationless family atmosphere she has created as a remarkably young and lovely housemother to their diverse menage of transient and not so transient houseguests. The house and its rooms are as relaxed as the occupants and the atmosphere – my room was a supremely comfortable, spotless, and delightfully individual home from home that I hope to return to whenever the opportunity arises.
The room in Sylvia's place was perfect for me. The proximity to the train was great, and the room was quaint and comfortable. I plan to book again when I need a room in London.
I really enjoyed my stay. The room was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. I was welcomed by Heath who made me a cup of tea and showed me around. I felt incredibly welcome and would whole-heartedly recommend this B and B to anyone. The location was fabulous for my weekend and I would definitely consider staying here again in the future.
Everything was perfect, I stayed in Sylvia's house for 3 weeks, really enjoyed East London life and had great time with them. Heath was an excellent host. Thank you for your kind hospitality.
Everything was beautiful! Heath was very welcoming, the kitchen is fully equipped and the small bathroom is a bit cold but functional. There is a supermarket nearby, different bus stops and a station for overground railway (not always in service so check).
Very nice and beautiful, clean and tidy accommodation! Heath was friendly and welcoming host. Thank you!
If I use Airbnb again then everyone else will have a lot to live up to. Heath was an easy-going host. I was out so much that I didn't see much of him, but he was accommodating at all times. Yes the slight slopes in the floor might seem strange, but by the time I left they were part of the character of the place, like Zippo, the very friendly cat.
Yes the room has an electric heater not a radiator, but it's effective and this feels like a churlish complaint when everything else was so welcoming.
This is a relaxed place to be, and if you stay on a weekend get yourself out down the road to Dalston market.
If you visit make sure you have complete underground and overland route maps as Hackney Downs (the nearest station) is on a different line to Hackney Central.
