Interaction with Guests
This can vary depending on time of year. We always try to assist guests with travel information and in particular local knowledge about the area if requested. However, the property affords a high degree of privacy with no interaction if that is what the guests prefer.
We are 10 minutes away from what we consider the finest of the Englaish Lakes, Lake Ullswater. Take a Lake Cruise on the Ullswater Steamer, be adventurous and grapple with Striding Edge on your way up the the summit of Helvellyn, or drink some fine English traditional ales and sample local produce at the George and Dragon Inn, within staggering distance of your accommodation. For an extra treat, dine at the Gate Inn Yanwath, an 18th century watering hole serving the finest cuisine, wines and ales.
We offer eco friendly holidays that include transfers to and from the local train station and electric cycle hire. We have standard bicycles available at the Hide and we are on the Sustrans cycling trails (Route 71). There are lovely (and easy) bike trails straight from the house visiting some beautiful Eden Valley villages. We are also convenient for coast to coast cycle riders.
We can organise a variety of activities in advance for you to make your trip as fulfilling and exciting / interesting as possible.
Public transport is available into the historic market town of Penrith, or take a trip to nearby Keswick for a real day out in a Lakeland town.
All the seasons are glorious in their own way here in the North Lakes. Autumn and Winter offer tranquility with intense lakeland colours and skies, and Spring and Summer, the beauty of long evenings and picturesque landscapes.
We combine modern comforts with wi-fi and a comfortable homestead, with tradition and history. Log fires and candlelight in the Autumn and Winter, patio, pond and barbecues in the Spring and Summer. What better all year round location.
The North Lakes and Eden Valley is a wonderful area for walking, climbing, sailing, kayaking, history and general ambling. We are very near Lake Ullswater, possibly the prettiest of the English Lakes. It is an ideal quiet location for visiting the Central and South Lakes e.g. Windermere, Bowness, Grasmere, Keswick. There is an excellentt theatre in Keswick.
Public transport is limited but is possible with planning. We have electric bikes and ordinary cycles for hire.
The nearest rail station is Penrith which is only two miles from the house, and a short taxi ride. Direct trains to from London and to Glasgow and Edinburgh run to and from Penrith.

Have a great time and enjoy your stay.
Claire made us feel at home and if I knew this place before would have stayed longer! Unfortunately only stayed here on the last day of our road trip...
We stayed in Claire's and Chris's flat for only one night, on our way to Scotland, but we wish we could
The flat is situated in a lovely area.
A stone throw away from Ullswater lake, and it's lovely villages.
It is also very close to the motorway (M6)
The flat itself is very nice. It is spacey and clean. We didn't have the chance to enjoy it too much, since we arrived very late.
The owners are very nice and welcoming, willing to answer all our questions, and direct us to some nice places in the area, for breakfast and a short layover.
Overall - excellent experience.
Great for a family stop over, well equipped kitchen area & nice shower room. Claire was friendly & welcoming. Near to M6 & close to Lake District (half hour drive to Keswick. )
The house is beautiful and we enjoyed it very much. We are very appreciate with how Claire has prepared the room for us. Our 2-year old baby, Adellia is comfortable being there as well. Will definitely recommend Claire as a host to our friends as well! The house is very near to Ullswater Steamers, hence perfect location for tourist to stay.
We had a great time at Claire & Chris' despite spending only an evening and night. Everything was perfectly described, easy to find and absolutely what we expected. The breakfast provisions were an additional unexpected but much appreciated bonus. Thanks so much!
This was a great place to stay for us on our way to Scotland and our hosts were very affable. The George and Dragon was great for dinner and only a two minute walk around the corner.
Lowther Castle and the church are a five minute drive away and worth visit and has a good walk adjacent.
Claire is a very pleasant host, making us feel very welcomed immediately. The 'cottage' is just nice for our family of four, having everything needed to make a comfortable stay. The breakfast materials Claire provided was a really thoughtful extra, much appreciated.
The place is very near to the Northern Lakes and Claire provided useful tips for sightseeing in the area. Although you get to hear the train passing by from time to time, it is rather muted and not a problem at all.

About the Host, Claire
We recently spent a year in Borneo, Malaysia. Chris (my husband) and I bought the house in Nijar at the recommendation of a friend. It was a good decision. Buying a house in Spain that needs renovating is highly stressful, especially when you don't have command of the language. However, we are delighted with the outcome and the house is now available to give friends, family and others a taste of the beauty in and around the village and region.
We are keen adventrurers and have spent time in some interesting parts of the world. We are both musicians and have performed in various locations and venues. In fact, we met through playing guitar and violin for a festival gig some years ago!
Musicians, painters, photographers, walkers and cyclists will all find inspriration in Andalucia. We hope you have a wonderful time and fall in love with our magical little house as much as we have.
