The Space

The Rebels Hide is a self contained and recently converted apartment. Open plan with en suite shower room & toilet. With kitchen and dining facilities and access to a lovely garden, you have all you need for a private and relaxing stay. Seperate private entrance.

The apartment is very flexible and ideal for one to person, families or small groups who are happy to sleep in one room. we have other rooms available in the main house if larger groups or families are travelling together. Please enquire about other
rooms if additional accommodation is required. We can accommodate a total of approx. 15 people on the total complex.

Situated in the historical village of Clifton, the scene of the last battle on English soil ( the Battle of Clifton Moor 1745), we can claim to be the only family run B & B with en suite Jacobite ghosts!

We are 10 minutes away from what we consider the finest of the Englaish Lakes, Lake Ullswater. Take a Lake Cruise on the Ullswater Steamer, be adventurous and grapple with Striding Edge on your way up the the summit of Helvellyn, or drink some fine English traditional ales and sample local produce at the George and Dragon Inn, within staggering distance of your accommodation. For an extra treat, dine at the Gate Inn Yanwath, an 18th century watering hole serving the finest cuisine, wines and ales.

We offer eco friendly holidays that include transfers to and from the local train station and electric cycle hire. We have standard bicycles available at the Hide and we are on the Sustrans cycling trails (Route 71). There are lovely (and easy) bike trails straight from the house visiting some beautiful Eden Valley villages.

We can organise a variety of activities in advance for you to make your trip as fulfilling and exciting / interesting as possible.

Public transport is available into the historic market town of Penrith, or take a trip to nearby Keswick for a real day out in a Lakeland town.

All the seasons are glorious in their own way here in the North Lakes. Autumn and Winter offer tranquility with intense lakeland colours and skies, and Spring and Summer, the beauty of long evenings and picturesque landscapes.

We combine modern conforts with wi-fi and a comfortable homestead, with tradition and history. Log fires and candlelight in the Autumn and Winter, patio, pond and barbecues in the Spring and Summer. What better all year round location.

Five minutes from the M6 motorway and the gateway to Scotland, it provides the perfect stopping point for the weary traveller and their family heading either North or South. It feels out of the way, but easily accessible to your main route. We are sure you will enjoy your stay however brief or long with us at the Hide.

The West Coast rail line is visible from the house for those railway anoraks amongst us, trains running from London to Glasgpow and Edinburgh. Steam "specials" run in the main season, and the old station at Langwathby (Settle - Carlisle line) is 15 mins away.

We look forward to meeting with you.

  • Claire was a friendly and helpful host. This large one bedroom studio is nice and bright with lots of windows. The current curtains are not very dark, so it is also quite light during the night in summer, but I understand that Claire is looking to upgrade them, so that should change. We enjoyed playing in the garden. This accommodation is quite close to a motorway, A road and train line, but fairly quiet when windows are closed and we quickly got used to the background hum. We really enjoyed the full kitchen facilities, with lots of pots, pans, oil and other cooking essentials.

  • We had a lovely stay with Claire and Chris and wish that we had been able to stay longer. Our room was large and comfortable for three. Both Claire and Chris were very helpful with local information about places to visit and eat.

  • We received a very warm welcome from Claire and Chris, who left us with fresh milk, juice and breakfast supplies. We also enjoyed the croissants! Claire also provided fresh towels in the middle of our stay. The accommodation is very comfortable and had everything you could ask for and the location was great.

  • This a home from home for anyone that wants to relax.
The variety of rooms cater for everyone from singles to full families like us. Claire and Chris are genuinely accommodating and all reasonable requests are keenly helped with.
This is our second home of choice in The Lakes now so hope it is free when we next need it.

  • The night we spent in this apartment was really a great experience. This place has everything our family of 4 could need, with a beautiful and very relaxing garden that our children enjoyed a lot, especially with the games Chris shared with us ! Our hosts were very welcoming, providing very useful informations on the area. Chris shared a book on Scotland's history (our destination) with our oldest son, we really appreciated this ! The breakfast was awesome ! If you're spending some time in the Lake district, this is a very good landing point !

We recently spent a year in Borneo, Malaysia. Chris (my husband) and I bought the house in Nijar at the recommendation of a friend. It was a good decision. Buying a house in Spain that needs renovating is highly stressful, especially when you don't have command of the language. However, we are delighted with the outcome and the house is now available to give friends, family and others a taste of the beauty in and around the village and region. We are keen adventrurers and have spent time in some interesting parts of the world. We are both musicians and have performed in various locations and venues. In fact, we met through playing guitar and violin for a festival gig some years ago! Musicians, painters, photographers, walkers and cyclists will all find inspriration in Andalucia. We hope you have a wonderful time and fall in love with our magical little house as much as we have.
