  • I would like to be as much objective as I can so that I can help both airbnb users and Bob , improving his service. So, the apartment was with perfect loation - just 5 minutes away from the subway station and just stops away from downtown. We arrived very late - about 2 a.m, but Bob`s niece waited us and it was extremely nice of her. Both of them are very nice people and tried to help us as much as possible. The apartment is very big and very convenient for 6 people. But we were shocked to see that it was very very dirty, bathrooms were full of hairs. I felt that it was not cleaned for at least month. I don`t know if it is part of Chinese culture and they don`t pay attention to it, but if my apartment was as dirty as this one, I would be ashamed to invite someone in it. In addtion , one of the toilets was clogged and eventhough we asked them to fix it - it was not fixed. So, it was a stay with mixture feelings.

  • Bob and his niece are great person!
Even if they do not speak very good english they made all their best to help us. She even slept in the house with us to make sure we were fine and one of her friend picked us up at the exit of the metro, so we could not get lost!
The house is great. It is on the 32nd floor, the last one!
Even if it is on the north side of the city center, 5 minutes walking distance there is the subway, so no problems at all! Otherwise you can always walk...It takes about 45 minutes to reach the centre ans you can see how the people of Xi'an really are

  • We enjoyed our 3 night stay in Bob’s apartment at the end of October. The apartment was spacious and clean. Bob’s niece met us as we left the taxi and took us up to show us around. Everything was very efficient and well arranged.

As other reviewers mentioned, the beds were traditional Chinese and HARD as a rock. I wondered if we were sleeping on a box spring! (We weren’t, it just felt like it). There were enough towels in the apartment for our party of 5. Winter is starting and the apartment was a bit cool. However, the A/C units also work as heaters. Only 2 worked (the master bedroom did not), but that was enough to keep the evenings comfortably warm in those bedrooms, and an extra quilt did the job in the master. The washing machine works fine, but there is no dryer. At one point, Bob had indicated there was a “dryer function” on the machine – there is not. There is a spin function, which we have discovered due to translation issues people sometimes mistake for a dryer (the Chinese is “spin dry”). There is a balcony to hang the clothes, but we just hung them in the rooms with the heaters going and they easily dried overnight.

We also tried the UBC coffee shop restaurant our first night for dinner. It is a chain. Food was fine and service was friendly. However, the restaurant was probably one of the worst I have visited in China for cigarette smoke (and that is saying a lot!). We did ask one group next to our table to shut the door of their private room to contain the smoke which they willingly did. The next night, we had an excellent meal at the hot pot restaurant just to the left of the entrance gate of the apartment. The kids said it was one of their favorite meals in China so far. Be warned, no English on the menu, so if you don’t have a native speaker with you, I suggest you do some online research on the types of hot pot food you will enjoy and bring that along. Walking around and pointing at other tables can also work. This one had lamb, beef, and some fish items along with all the veggies, tofu, etc. The lamb and beef were both of good quality. Restaurant was quite clean and staff was very happy and helpful.

It is very tough to get taxis in Xian. We could not get one on our departure, so just ended up taking the Metro to the train station. A bit of a pain with luggage, but workable. If you need to get to the airport, I suggest hiring a car service or pre-booking a cab.
Overall a very pleasant stay and we would recommend this apartment to others. Our group of 5 was quite comfortable.

    Thank you!

  • We arrived early - at 5am and this was not a problem - YuShing met us at the gate and opened the apartment. It was clean, spacious and comfortable. Our kids felt safe and happy there. I enjoyed the access to a washing machine which was very handy. The location was great - an easy 15 min walk or taxi to the town walls and muslim quarter. Just one block to the right of the building are great fresh food markets. Directly across the road we had a great meal at a restaurant - delicious!

  • We are a family of five and stayed at Bob's for 6 days. It was a great pleasure to stay at Bob's apartment. Bob's niece greeted us warmly at the gate of the building and got us settled. The apartment was clean and neat and a fantastic, affordable option for a traveling family. The apartment are very close to the Metro station, department store and supermarket.

  • Sorry for the late delay. We were in travel mode and have just arrived back in Canada.

It was a pleasure to stay at Bob's Holiday Rental while in Xi'an. Bob's niece and her friend met us and got us settled. Bob's place was plenty large for the 5 of us. The washer was a bonus after being on the road for a week already with just carry-ons!

The apartment was clean and had great amenities. The housing garden it is located in was very nice. Even the people we met going up and down the elevator were genuinely happy to see us and very engaging. My tall husband was a big hit with two young girls and their father that we met in the lobby a few times. They practiced their English on us a lot. They even got Daniel to hoist them up on the mail box ledge as their dad was too short to do it! The area is great. Close to the Metro and buses. Just a couple of stops from the City walls and Bell & Drum Towers. Great restaurants in the area and close to the silver market. UBC coffee is right next door. Great food, and my nephew who is a jazz pianist studying at McGill University got to play a set on their grand piano!

Bob's instructions were easy to follow and it was a pleasure dealing with him through e-mail. He always responded to our questions in a timely manner. I speak for all five of us when I say, 'Good luck Bob with your Air BnB business. I think it will be very successful'!

  • This is a great chance to experience the modern living in China. Armed with Bob's clear direction, we arrived at the building. Bob's niece greeted us warmly at the gate of the building and she answered many of our questions. She also showed us where the building is located on a city map (this building is very close to one of the subway stations in Xi'An - Xi'An has just opened the new subway since September 2011). The view from the 32nd floor is simply amazing! The apartment is ideal for our little group of 4 - there are 2 modern bathrooms here. With the easy access to the subway, Bob's place is an ideal base to tour around Xi'An and the other ancient sites around the area. One thing on the subway to keep in mind: It closes early (around 10:00 pm).

  • Bob's place was only a short taxi ride into the wall of the city where the Bell and Drum Towers are. About a 15-16 rmb taxi ride.

Bob's niece stayed with us and was very helpful at writing down things in Chinese on places we wanted to see.

  • We were given contact info for Bob's cousin and she helped us get from the airport to the rental, and met us at the outside gate. She brought us in and showed us the place. It was very nice and great for my wife and 3 kids (14, 11 and 9). The space was nice and the washer was great to keep up on the clothes while in Xi'an. The beds are like all beds in China, hard as a rock. The place has some extra comforters and using those under the sheets helped a lot though.

The place was warm since it is on the 32nd story and this was a very good thing since it was early February and there was still snow on the ground. They provided us with the internet code for the wireless but we never did get it to work properly, not a big deal though. Also the location is only 2-3 blocks from the main Metro system, just head east out of the main gate and you'll see it.

Xi'an was great and we were able to get around on our own with our somewhat limited Chinese. We would recommend the restaurant across the street from the main gate and about 1 block east. It is right next to a hotel there and is the eastern of the pair of revolving doors on the north side of the street as you head east.

Also if you are looking for something good and cheap I'd recommend heading down the little market street just east of the main gate about a block, you will see a bunch of garbage on one side of the street and a bunch of stalls/stands. Along there on the left as you head south down this little almost alley looking street you will see a noodle stand with a guy doing fried noodles and egg. It's 6 RMB (less than a $1) and is great for a meal.

Really good experience and we loved it there, will stay again if we go back for sure!

One negative, only 2 towels there so for a family of 5 it wasn't enough. We went to a local store there on the same block and got 3 more small towels that we were able to use. If they are there when you stay... YOU'RE Welcome!
