The Neighborhood

The Sheung Wan neighbourhood is ever changing and a fantastic mix of "old' and "new" Hong Kong. This apartment is located in the heart of Hong Kong's commercial, cultural and shopping districts and within short walking distance to the subway and HK Macau Ferry Pier. A few minutes walk away from the harbour front and the fantastic Sun Yat Sun Memorial Park and Public swimming pool over look the world famous Victoria Harbor.

Getting around

Buses, Trams, Minibuses and taxis all run right out side the building all conveniently taking you through Central and all other parts of Hong Kong like Causewaybay, Wan Chai, the exhibition center and beyond.

Other Things to Note

Once you arrive in Hong Kong, everything is quite simple and all starts with a call from the FREE phones at the airport located in the hall immediately after you pass through baggage customs. There is also a Visitors Center there if you would like to pick up some maps, local travel guides, etc. to read on your way to the apartment. If you need a local SIM card, there is a 7-11 in the middle section of the main arrival hall where they see all types of SIM cards, I usually prefer the PCCW brand as it is the larges local operator.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • Had a very pleasant stay. Apt is clean and well equipped. Location is great, very close to Central and a short walk from the Sheung Wan MTR station. Jason and his brother were both very responsive and helpful.

  • Overall we enjoyed our stay in Jason's flat. It is very tiny but functional. The mattress is typical Asian firm but comfortable. Jason and his mum were lovely. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The place wasn't quite ready upon our arrival in the late afternoon but this was quickly rectified. The double decker tram stop is outside the front door which takes you to the Sheung Wan MTR station in about 5 min or you could walk there in 10-15 min depanding on your pace. The bathroom is minuscule but functional. The water temperature is very good but the pressure could be stronger. This makes a great home-base while visiting HK but isn't for light sleepers or larger-than-average people, it's just too small, and the glow from the electronics is something else. I highly recommend a sleep mask and ear plugs for those who need them. I can sleep through anything so it wasn't an issue. My husband felt a bit cramped but the pros outweigh the cons. Jason's excellent communication and friendliness was really appreciated. We had a great four-night stay here and freely recommend this tiny gem on HK Island.

  • Very nice apartment. Perfect for 2 people. Great location. Nice welcome too

  • This was my first AirBnB experience so maybe I am not yet 'calibrated' but I was a little disappointed. Maybe it was just that all of the previous reviews were amazing so I had excessively high expectations. So here's a reality check!

    - great location
    - exceptionally clean
    - well organised logistics
    - fast and reliable wifi

    - minute. This is not so much an apartment as a small room with a tiny bathroom and even smaller second bedroom. There is nowhere to sit or do other flat-type things. It's bed or nothing! As such, it's not very cosy and I tried not to be at home except to sleep. Apart from being on the top floor, there's nothing that makes it a rooftop apartment - no balcony / view etc.
    - noisy as it's next to the top of the lift shaft and so you get the mechanism running all night. So I suppose there is one distinguishing feature for being rooftop!
    - shower is a bit weak

Overall, acceptable and fine but think tiny, 2* hotel room rather than sexy rooftop apartment. Then you won't be disappointed.

    Response from Jason:

I wish I could control guests expectation a bit too, but in general, for under UDS100, to have one bedroom, a rooftop area to rest and see the city skyline, a clean apartment, comfy beds, nice hot water showers, this is what my guests tell me they want and are generally very pleased. The photos are Airbnb verified and exactly as shown, so I don't know why he was so surprised about the size, for Hong Kong, it really isn't bad at all. 2 stars? That's just someone being really mean for no reason. All I can do is recommend reading more reviews by others.

  • This booking is a good value, and it's in a convenient location. The apartment was clean and well appointed and basically as pictured in the photos. There are two small bedrooms; the larger one contains a kitchenette and a TV. We didn't use the rooftop deck because the weather wasn't great during our stay, but it might be a nice place to have a drink on a hot summer night. Jason and family were able to provide a baby cot, which was helpful.

We called from the airport as advised but ended up waiting around 40 minutes for Brandon to arrive. For some travelers this might not be an issue, but as we had a lot of luggage and were traveling with a baby, it was a little difficult. We were carrying a mainland mobile, so the family might have sent us an SMS to let us know that the hand-off had been delayed. Brandon was very kind and accommodating when he arrived, though. The apartment also contains a folder with a ton of recommendations for Hong Kong that we found useful.

Next time we will probably spend a bit more to stay somewhere a bit larger, and to have the convenience of settling in as soon as we arrive. But this would a good place for a couple or for two friends who want to stay in separate bedrooms.

  • We had a great stay at Jason's apartment in Sheung Wan during Spring Festival this year. The location is fantastic, there's a tram station practically at the door, and it's a quick walk to Hollywood Road and other "hot spots". The apartment itself is well-appointed, clean, and just big enough for two people to stay comfortably for about a week. Using the kitchenette for breakfast and a few dinners allowed us to save a little money on dining out (which was quite expensive). Jason was very helpful and kept in touch while we were in town, always quick to respond to questions.

Another reviewer mentioned the noise from the elevator, which was quite a bit more than we expected. I'm a light sleeper, so I had difficulty the first few nights.

This was our first experience booking through Airbnb, and our first visit to Hong Kong, both of which were a success!

  • The stay at Jason's apartment was a great experience overall! He was very helpful in suggesting places to go and visit and his apartment was very clean and tidy. It was fairly close to the station (10 min walk - but very interesting) and convenient and cheap to get to various places within Hong Kong Island via taxi (around 20-40 Hong Kong dollars to most bars or venues). As this was my first time using airbnb I was very impressed and I will definitely recommend this place:) thanks again Jason!

  • Great place in very central location. Great and very helpful host. Definitely recommending.

  • Everything worked out that easy with Jason. Quick responses always and a nice place to stay. You feel like a local Sheung Wan person.
If you have a light sleep like me, you have to get used to the elevator. But that's not that difficult.
Nice and cosy place though! Thank you for the possibility having such a good stay in Hong Kong.

  • It is usually very difficult to find a good place in HK. Especially it was very tough for me because I was very late everything.
When I sent a request. Jason gave me a very quick answer then I could finish my reservation. location is very good. i could get to the apartment very easily. and it is located on the main street. only few minutes away from Sheungwan MTR station(only need to walk along the street) and very closed from Macau ferry harbor.

And the apartment is clean and has enough space.
Don't need to bring towel, shampoo and shower form and dryer.

I definitely use Jason's place again.
    It was nice experience. ;)

I've enjoyed traveling to different parts of the world my entire life and absolutely love meeting locals at each place I visit to get first hand knowledge of the destination. I've made many friends across the globe and look forward to visiting them each time I'm back in the region. I've called Hong Kong my home for the past 30 years, this is absolutely a brilliant little place with so much local flavor and western influences in this Chinese city. I look forward to meeting lots of overseas friends and pointing out the many local favorites so every visitor has a chance to experience the best of this great city. Happy travels! Jason
