General information:
Your friendly hosts are Jeff - Mayor of Bath 1995-96- and his partner Jay who was born in the city. We will give you a useful city map and advice on how to make the most of your time here. Whichever country and culture you come from we will warmly welcome you in our home and to our beautiful World Heritage city.

Beech Cottage is a unique and charming home tucked away from the road in a secluded wooded setting - yet the nearest bus stop is just 30 metres from our front gate and the number 1 bus takes only 9 minutes to reach us from Bath bus station (stand 10). STAYING HERE WITHOUT A CAR IS VERY EASY.

Step off the bus at the Combe Road stop (ring the bell when you see the King William IV pub) and you will find the sign to Beech Cottage pointing down the rustic lane in front of you.

The pleasant downhill walk into Bath centre takes around 25 minutes or a little longer if you take the off-piste alternative route with lovely views over the city.

A taxi to or from town costs about £8 depending on the time of day and the number of passengers.

Eat breakfast in our huge AGA cosy kitchen or outside on the terrace. Breakfast always includes - pressed or squeezed juices - freshly prepared fruit salad - muesli - cereals - low fat milk and soya - yoghurt -breads - spreads - good quality teas and coffee. Help yourself to ice, filtered water and fresh milk in the kitchen at any time.

Within a few minutes walk of Beech Cottage we have the Forester and Flower pub/restaurant, the award winning Darling Deli, and a Co-op supermarket (open (phone number hidden) daily).

FREE parking. FREE city map and FREE Wi-Fi. Ironing board and iron are available on request.

When sunny you can snooze, read or play petanque in our tranquil garden.

Children, including babies, are always welcome subject to prior agreement on sleeping arrangements. For infants up to 3 years staying in the KING bed room we have a Mamas and Papas cot bed. There is also a stair safety gate. Mums and dads are welcome to relax in the kitchen after baby's bedtime.

Bedrooms and the front door are fitted with euro-locks and you are protected by mains powered smoke alarms.

Please read our reviews and let us know when you would like to stay - we look forward to hearing from you :)

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Jeff and Jay. They are a very warm, welcoming and enthusiastic couple. Jeff gave us a map and some good information about Bath. It's good to get some insider information and tips on where to go (the kind of info that locals know and most tourist don't know), we really appreciated it!

The location is great, the bus stop is really close by and it's just 9 minutes by bus to the train station or the city. And another plus is that it's really quiet (no busy roads).

The room was nice, comfy and cozy. We enjoyed your company at breakfast, it's nice that you are around during breakfast, it makes it even feel more welcoming and at home (the breakfast itself is also good).

We also enjoyed your sense of humor, it feels comfy and relaxed being around you.

Thanks for the lovely stay, we felt very welcome and at home!!

  • I stayed here recently with a friend for my hen weekend, and we really enjoyed the experience! We took the train and found the instructions from Jeff and Jay to get to the cottage very clear and worked well. The cottage is absolutely beautiful, we were made to feel absolutely at home and the kitchen is spectacular. We really enjoyed the healthy breakfasts provided every morning (including yummy homemade porridge!) and found the advice and suggestions about what to do in Bath during our stay very useful. :) I would definitely recommend this cottage, you will not be disappointed if you stay here! Thank you so much to Jay and Jeff from the both of us :)

  • Great choice for your visit in bath. Jeff and Jay had great advice and recommendations. The walk back to their place is great to burn all the calories you eat in Bath's great restaurants. You can also opt for an easy bus ride. Clean, comfy and quiet place to stay.

Many thank Chantal - so glad you and Greg enjoyed your stay at Beech Cottage. We enjoyed hosting you a lot and and I (Jeff) was fascinated by Greg's lovely Harrison Ford voice and looks - he could surely be a stand in for him:) All good wishes to you both. Jeff and Jay - August 2013.

  • Jay & Jeff are lovely warm people and welcoming generous hosts. They have found a lovely balance between being inclusive & informative while still respecting guests' needs for space/privacy. The twin room was small but worked for me and my mother - the beds are very comfortable!

The house is in a nice neighborhood that is fairly quiet at night -- the only noises that woke me up were birds just after sunrise.

The kitchen is lovely and has nice chairs & a sofa where jetlagged visitors or insomniacs can go read a book without disturbing their traveling companion and Jeff says a day room is coming soon. Jay is a real whiz and does an amazing job keeping up the rooms the household and maintaining a beautiful garden.

If you are athletic - you are only 2.75 mi walk/run from Bath University where the general public can swim in the 50m pool for only 3.25 pounds (it's an awesome pool). There's a bus line nearby and once you get your bearings - you will find it's no problem getting around but that traffic can be a bit of a bear in Bath.

If you love animals - there's even a nice elderly black & white cat who guards the driveway from the springy cushion of a mini-trampoline in the garden of a neighborhing house as well as dogs dogs dogs EVERYWHERE if you just step out onto the street you'll meet them. Or you can go to the Cats& Dogs Home of Bath.

I really liked the neighborhood and it's the kind of place I'd like to live -- access to Roman ruins (email hidden) from a nearby village that is close to a 50m pool with cats and flowers everywhere? Can't go wrong can you?

  • Had a fabulous time staying at Jeff' and Jay's. Can't say enough, except when we left my daughter was sad! Great room: clean, comfortable bed, with little perks. Jeff left hot chocolate for my daughter, along with tea/coffee. Breakfast was yummy thanks to Jay's delicious porridge, fresh fruit, juices, toast, tea/coffee, etc. Jeff offered touring help and it worked perfectly for what we wanted to do. Given the opportunity to visit again, I would in a heart beat. Plus, buses worked brilliantly and dropped off 20 steps from the front door. Overall, 5 star stay!

About
Expect a warm welcome when you arrive at Beech Cottage. Living in Bath since 1968 and being a Bath City Councillor for many years (Mayor of Bath 1995-96) taught Jeff much about the history and fabric of Bath. His beautiful wife Jacqui was born only a mile away from Beech Cottage, then spent most of her life in Jamaica and London - returning to Bath in 2012. They both value the simple pleasures and comforts in life; and love hosting their guests and helping them enjoy their time in Bath. Healthy eating and lifestyle are important to us. A self service breakfast is included in the room rate: teas and infusions - fresh filter coffee - muesli - cereals - bread - juices - spreads - fresh fruit. Low fat milk and soya alternative are always available. There is a small gym you are welcome to use during your stay. Jeff has worked in the US and Canada and travelled extensively. In 2011 he sailed with 3 friends from New Zealand and spent ten weeks in the South Pacific. 10 days and nights - non stop from Opua to northern Tonga in a 45ft yacht was quite an experience :-) From there we went on to Fiji, and Australia Five things we can't live without? Good food - music - travel - conversation with friends old and new - companionship with each other.
