Gourmet kitchen, ocean view, one level, great lanai spaces, plenty of off-street parking, access to private hiking trails and swimming in the fresh-water, year-round stream.

The space
This is a beautiful jewel of a house. It's all one level and close to shopping and activities such as hiking, biking, zip lines, horseback riding, art school, dining and Haleakala National Park. Just an eight minute drive to white sand beaches.

This 20 acre shade-grown coffee plantation borders a forest preserve and is completely private. A stream runs through the property year-round attracting a variety of wildlife. There are amazing panoramic ocean, jungle and mountain views. Seasonal waterfall views. Guests have the option of booking a free personal tour of the farm and grounds which includes a short hike to see the ancient Hawaiian pictographs, an artesian spring and gives an overview where all the private trails, natural pools and picnic areas are. Reservations include full access to all the grounds and amenities on the farm. The cottage is located over a half mile from the main farm house and is completely private. It's located just off a country road. The driveway is all paved with room to turn around without backing into the road. No need for a four-wheel drive!
It includes:
30 Mbps Wi-Fi, Cable Smart TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime with HBO and Acorn channels, W/D and detergent, Barbecue with Charcoal and Kiawe wood provided, Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Range, Microwave, Juicer, Blender, Toaster Oven and Pour-over and French Press equipment provided along with a half pound of our award-winning coffee. Within 30 days of your arrival you will receive a separate invoice from Airbnb for the 14.41% Hawaii Transient Accommodations Tax. This cannot be collected at the time of reservation. PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS STATE LAW THAT WE ADD THE TAX. It cannot be included in the nightly rate...Sorry!

Organic farm and pesticide free area for those with sensitivities. We do not use pesticides within the home to kill every living thing. It makes the wildlife happy, and its healthier for you too, but if you will be freaked out seeing an ant, gecko or another harmless bug, don't stay here. This is a jungle setting.

And, again because this is a jungle setting. It is not silent at night. Think of every Tarzan movie you've ever seen and remember what the jungle sounds like? That's what you can expect. Birds, crickets, cicadas, frogs, deer, geckos and wind in the trees as well as rain on the roof all have the potential of being part of your jungle experience. Seasonally, you may have the roar of the spectacular Maliko Falls too. If you don't want to hear any of these things, don't stay in a jungle setting.

All one level for those with some mobility issues. Not wheelchair accessible though!

We have a 3 night minimum however we will book for 1-2 nights if the nights are available between other bookings so feel free to check with us.

Guest access
Guests have access to miles of private trails on the grounds of Maliko Estate Coffee where the cottage is located. Swimming in the year-round stream is a highlight. Great bird watching too!

Owners live on the same property but are a mile away.

Booking and payment through Airbnb by Guest for accommodations and activities on Maliko Estate Coffee Farm signifies release from liability and does indemnify and hold harmless Maliko Estate Coffee Farm, it’s owners, and any of its employees or agents representing or related to the Farm as regards to voluntary work, tours, hiking and/or swimming on the property.

Location

Makawao, Hawaii, United States

Makawao is a historic paniolo town. The paniolo are the Hawaiian cowboys and they still can be seen riding their horses or stopping by the local cantinas for a beer after riding the upcountry ranches. Great shopping and dining is found closeby in Makawao, Haiku and nearby Paia.

My favorite thing is sharing this beautiful valley with others. It started out 30 years ago as a refuse dump. For 150 years everyone dumped their garbage into the fresh-water stream from the lovely old stone bridge. My husband and I bought the property below the bridge along with the stream and all the garbage in it. For five years we hauled trash consisting of everything from old Model T Ford car frames to bags of dirty disposable diapers. The water was red, foamy and smelled terrible. But we finally got it clean and it's a beautiful stream with waterfalls, springs, caves and wildlife. I love to build things out of found objects and re-purpose and re-use things meant for the dump. We live on a small island and need to be more sustainable. It's a lot easier to just buy what you need at Home Depot or Lowe's but it's a lot more satisfying to give something a new life with ingenuity and hard work. I love coffee. I love growing it and I love drinking it. Also, coffee growers are a wonderful group of people. Our coffee growing community here on Maui and in Hawaii are like family. I also work as an advocate for small farmers here in Maui County.
