  • Sandy
  • Sage American Grill

Sage is two blocks from the house and overlooks the water. We recommend it for drinks: Wander down and watch the sunset from the deck. If you decide to eat there, the basic dishes are the best choice.
South Water Street New Haven CT 06519
  • C-Town Supermarket

This is a largely Latino market right up the street. Want pan dulce or perfectly ripe avocados, cheap? This is the place. Grapefruit juice or tonic water? Not so much.
Greenwich Avenue New Haven CT 06519
  • IKEA

Very close to the house. Rented a car to come from NYC? Why not take advantage pick up some self-assembled Scandinavian furniture? Also: Kids eat free on Tuesdays.
Sargent Drive New Haven CT 06511
  • 116 Crown

Inventive local cuisine. Also has a nice bar.
Crown Street New Haven CT 06510
  • West Haven beaches

The closest place to sit on the sand, with some nearby clam shacks on Beach St as well
Beach St West Haven CT 06516
  • Super Stop & Shop

This is the closest regular supermarket: Open 6am to 11pm, and has all the basics. Groceries sell beer in CT, though for restricted hours on Sunday.
Elm Street West Haven CT 06516
  • Barcelona Wine Bar & Restaurant

    Yummy tapas
Temple Street New Haven CT 06510
  • Elm City Market

Our local food co-op. Its like a Whole Foods: Lots of pricey organics locally made bread, etc. Park in the garage above it have your ticket stamped for free parking.
Chapel Street New Haven CT 06510
  • Wooster Square Farmer's Market

Open every Saturday 9am to 1pm, May to Dec. You can get veggies, bread, milk, flowers, etc from local CT farmers. The cheese truck is often there as well! (website hidden)

  • Yale University

Yale spreads out across New Haven, so make sure youve researched the exact building or department youre seeking
Hillhouse Avenue New Haven Connecticut 06511
  • Ferraro Foodland of New Haven

Ferraros has been here since this was an old Italian neighborhood. Its meat department is legendary--go on a big grilling weekend and you wont soon forget the experience. Great mesclun, too.

  • Caseus

A lovely restaurant and cheese shop
Whitney Avenue New Haven CT 06510
  • Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History

Watch for the big dinosaur outside.

    You know the drill.
Boston Post Road Orange CT 06477
  • The Place Restaurant

Yankee magazine voted this one of the best places in New England to eat lobster: An outdoor, light-strung yard where you sit on stumps and eat lobster, fish or corn off the grill. Heaven.
