Sweet 1920's House Close to Yale

House - Entire home/apt · Greenwich Avenue, New Haven, CT 06519, United States

Just a block from the water: Lovely two-bedroom house with a nice back yard and veggie garden, welcoming front porch, and a great kitchen. (Two Wolf stoves, Miele dishwasher, microwave.)

The Space

Just a block from the water: Lovely house with a nice back yard and veggie garden, welcoming front porch, and a great kitchen. (Two Wolf stoves, Miele dishwasher, microwave.) Upstairs are two bedrooms--the master with a king bed and the front room with a twin and a fold-out queen-sized futon--and a full bath with a shower. Downstairs is a couch (which can sleep one more if needed) and a full bath with a soaking tub.

We are in the lovely, tight-knit New Haven neighborhood of Oyster Point, so called because oystermen used to live in its Victorian houses. We are just a block to the water, and two to the pier, marina and Sage Restaurant, which is a great place to go have drinks on the deck in nice weather.

There is a bus stop a block away, and the train station is a 20-minute walk, but the location is best enjoyed with a car: We have ample parking in our six-bay garage and are right off of I-95 for easy coming and going. West Haven beaches are a few minutes in one direction, Yale is a few minutes in the other.

(Caveat: Though they won't be with you when you visit, we do own two cats, so this is probably not the best place for those who are very allergic.)

NOTE: In August 2014 we would prefer to have reservations of 4 days or more.

The Neighborhood

  • This great place was just what we were looking for during our family reunion in New Haven. We felt absolutely comfortabe and enjoyed a lot the beautifully decorated and charming house with its spacious and cozy rooms. We loved the thoughtfully equipped kitchen. We appreciated a lot the nice welcome basket and the easy and prompt communication with our hosts.
Sandy thought of all the details and made it such a convenient and relaxing stay.
We highly recommend Sandy and Rob as wonderful hosts!

  • This property was the perfect setting for our family reunion!
The house was very clean, roomy, and well appointed. It was obvious that Sandy and her husband wanted their guests to feel right at home. We arrived rather late -- check in instructions were easy to follow, soft lighting and music were on, and a welcome basket with delicious treats was on the kitchen counter. What a wonderful way to unwind!
All these touches were greatly appreciated after driving 11 hours in snowy conditions.
It was easy to communicate with Sandy, and she was very accommodating with special requests for our family celebration.
We highly recommend this property, and thank Sandy for sharing it with us during our New Haven visit!

  • My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our weekend stay in Sandy's house. In sort, the home is beautiful and Sandy is a fantastic host.

She left us a wonderful basket of snacks and wine - which was extremely welcome after a long workday and train trip. Sandy was helpful and communicative about our travel arrangements.

The house is as beautiful as it's pictured and well-appointed, and Sandy leaves helpful notes around to help you figure out the particulars. We were able to marathon House of Cards on Netflix via the Roku, we enjoyed the extremely comfortable and beautiful master bedroom, and I had a glorious soak in the tub downstairs.

We relied on cabs to get us to and from the train station and into town for an evening which was pretty easy and cheaper than a car rental for a short stay. Dinner at Barcelona was fantastic, as was a walk around Sandy's neighborhood and down to the pier.

Five stars all around - thanks, Sandy, we hope to return!

  • Sandy's house was fantastic. Spacious, beautifully decorated, great kitchen, the sort of book collection that makes you wish you read more. She left us a nice welcome basket and she has a roku! A lovely way to spend a weekend outside of the city.

  • We arrived in New Haven in the dead of winter, just as the mercury was dropping below zero! Sandy's house was a welcome sight! It's lovely, with a fabulous kitchen, where we cooked some great meals.

Our second night the heating acted up. (Aieeee!). Sandy and her husband were right on it, bringing us three electric space heaters and making repairs ASAP. By morning we were a cozy 72 degrees.

A+ for Sandy and her lovely home!

  • This is a beautiful home with an amazing kitchen and stunning master bedroom. We had a wonderful stay. Sandy was very easy to work with. I would highly recommend this home and will personally plan to stay again when we are back in town.

  • My girlfriend and parents stayed for a long weekend at Sandy's house, and don't have enough good things to say about our stay. We arrived to a basket full of thoughtful welcome gifts - slippers, popcorn, scones and more. The place was even more romantic and beautiful than the pictures described - dark New England accents, mixed with rustic cabin touches. The comfort of the master bedroom was like staying at a 5 star resort - the kitchen pristine, the TV room a place for total relaxation, and a basement with brand new washer and dryers!
Sandy was communicative and wonderful to work from the initial booking inquiry, all the way through until after we left. I ended up leaving a pair of shoes at the place, which she generously offered to mail back to me at no cost.
I'd recommend this listing to any of my friends traveling to the area, and would most definitely stay there again if given the opportunity.

  • My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in Sandy's home over the holiday. We were floored by the house and the warm reception we received (even without having met Sandy personally over the course of our stay) -- there was a welcome basket with slippers, scones and a bottle of wine waiting for us after our long flight & drive. We had no issue contacting Sandy and she was always very quick to respond to queries, though the house narrative answered our questions well enough that we did not have much to ask (there were also smaller notes scattered throughout - very thoughtful!). Having such a gourmet kitchen available to us was such a delight and the coffee maker brewed a delicious cup in the mornings. Sandy's home is thoughtfully curated, beautifully decorated and felt instantly cozy. We were both inspired by the feel of it -- I simply must have my own hawk! In my dreams I am able to spend all my visits to Connecticut in Sandy's home. It was such an easy and comfortable experience. I am so glad it was our first Airbnb!

  • We stayed at Sandy's beautiful home for a 4-day weekend outside of NYC. The house itself was incredible - antique furniture, incredible open space, and more books than I can believe! The home was exceptionally clean, and Sandy made us feel welcome immediately (even though we never met her in person). My favorite part about the house is the rustic feel to it. There is exposed wood throughout the house, and it was fantastically decorated!

When we arrived, there was a welcome basket with wine, scones, slippers, and a note of everything we could possibly need to know about the house.

The location was amazing as well - we didn't travel far, but went around the New Haven / East Haven area for a few days, and seemed as though we were never more than 10-15 minutes from the house.

I would absolutely recommend this house to anyone if they're looking at the New Haven area! There were only 2 of us on the trip, but the house could easily sleep a few more without any issue!

Thank you for the wonderful stay, Sandy! We will absolutely be back if we're ever looking in the New Haven area again!

  • I cannot praise Sandy's place enough... unfortunately, we only stayed there for one night, I would have loved to stay longer. Even though we did not meet her in person, everything worked perfectly and though we arrived very late there was no problem at all. She had even left us something to eat and a bottle of wine... The house is marvelous, very charming and in a quiet neighbourhood. Definitely my best airbnb experience so far, and highly recommended to anybody planning a trip to New Haven!
