The Vatican Museums and St Peter's are obviously the blockbuster attractions in the district.
The Castel Sant Angelo by the river on the main approach to St Peter's from the city of Rome is a major landmark and is probably the most interesting formal attraction for most visitors, but most visitors will walk right by it in their haste to get to St Peter's. Anywhere else and the fortress would probably be a major attraction.
The Castel Sant Angelo is worthwhile. Once inside its like going back to a medieval age as you climb within the castle up atmospheric internal passageways which will stay in your memory. Although there are paintings and items on display, most people will remember the views from the top of the castle more, and there (email hidden) too to relax and take it all in.
If you are staying close to Vatican City, or happen to be near the Vatican and interested in a great are to shop (or window shop), Via Cola di Rienzo near Piazza Risorgimento in the region of Prati, is one of the most famous avenues for shopping in Rome. From clothing, shoes and accessories for men, women and children, to gourmet shops and jewelry boutiques, it offers plenty to suit different tastes, styles and budgets.
On the other side of The Vatican is St Pietro Station. The trains that stop here are regional commuter style trains running two or three times an hour between Termini Station and Civitavecchia, Rome's cruise port.
When we arrived, Luisa herself was there to greet us and show us the apartment. She helped us with our luggage in the elevator which made things easier! She was very easy to communicate with, and made the check in and check out very smooth. The room was very clean--just like a hotel room! The wireless internet was great to have to check emails, and contact family. You can't beat the location of this spot. The subway is right across the street, the area is full of restaurants, and you are walking distance to the Vatican. We were issued vouchers to get breakfast (a coffee, and fresh croissant of choice) at a cafe right down the street, which was always a great start to the day. We would recommend this place to stay! Thank you Luisa!!
