Follow the White Rabbit to Portland

Apartment - Private room · NW Pettygrove St, Portland, OR 97210, United States

The Space

Renting a great little guest room in my garden apartment in the heart of Northwest Portland. This centrally located building is 2 blocks from 2 bus lines (#15 and #77), and 3 blocks from the streetcar.

Nestled in the back corner of this classic 1920's courtyard building is my multistory, 2 bdrm, 1 bathroom apartment. I am currently renting a 2nd story guest room (one, full-sized bed) with a southern view of my patio garden. This is a shared bathroom situation. My bedroom is directly across the hall, but with the doors closed this is quiet room. Though it's rarely needed here in Portland, my apartment does NOT have air conditioning. The room has west and south facing windows and gets a good breeze overnight. There is also a fan for your use if wanted.

Though it's located just off the bustling and trendy Northwest 23rd Ave this is a relatively quiet apartment (aside from my neighbor occasionally singing along as he plays his guitar, the chirping of the birds, and the bark of a neighbor's dog.) The neighborhood is filled with bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and various shopping options. Additionally, Wallace Park is a block away and a hike in Forest Park is a mere 10 minutes by foot.

Includes: Wi-Fi, access. Shared kitchen use. Full bed. Room is located on 2nd floor. Smoking allowed on patio or in the entry outside the front door. I do have one cat, but she mostly stays in my room. Her name is Gray, she's curious and friendly, but a bit skittish.

Guest Access

This is a shared bathroom and kitchen situation. You're also welcome to hang out in the living room and dinning room and on the back patio.

Interaction with Guests

It just depends on the guest and our schedules. If you're around and want to chat, I am generally available.

The Neighborhood

It's very walkable and there are lots of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and shopping. It's also full of old houses and interesting architecture. It's a vibrant neighborhood with lots of people watching.

Getting around

There are two buses (#15 and #77) and the streetcar with a few blocks. I don't own a car and rely primarily on public transit and walking.

  • Brent's home was comfortable, bright and welcoming! He generously took my reservation at the last minute, and welcomed me to his home with a clean and colorful room, comfortable bed, fresh towels, and a pitcher of water on the bedside table. His apartment is in the perfect location for exploring bustling NW 23rd, getting downtown (a 20 minute walk!) or heading farther north in to the woods, parks and mountains. Highly recommended!

  • Brent was great, really hospitable and helpful. It was a nice room and he even put out a pitcher of water and a couple of glasses. Very cozy.

  • This is a great place if you are a very heavy sleeper or plan to be out very late at night. I was in town alone for a conference so was not out late and it was really hard for me to sleep here, I even tried listening to music with my headphones in, but was still woken up by doors and laughing and what not. You can hear everything that goes on in the apartment. One of the three nights the host came home after I'd gone to bed and another night he and his boyfriend were just up very late, neither are inappropriate things for someone to do in their own home nor things I hold against him, but I was constantly awakened until after midnight simply because of the structure and layout of the apartment.

Pros: Convenient to The Pearl (where my conference was) by street car, which was great. Also a couple convenient bus lines going to the area. Very reasonably priced. Great amenities in the neighborhood like food, coffee, shopping, etc. (Southland Whiskey Kitchen, just down the street, was awesome!) Cozy, comfortable room, can use the kitchen if you want to, clean, fun and whimsical atmosphere. I felt comfortable being in the apartment and using the shared bathroom. I only saw the host when I checked in because we had opposite schedules, but he was very friendly and helpful, and he was very communicative before as well as during the stay.

Cons: Not private or quiet, you can hear everything that goes on in the apartment from the guest room. The guest room door is in between the hosts bedroom door and the shared bathroom door, and shares one wall with each. No amenities in the room like a TV or a clock. A long trek anywhere other than the NW. The wifi cuts in and out for some reason, which was only an issue the few times I was trying to work.

  • I had a nice stay at Brent's place. Everything was as described and Brent was very accommodating.

  • Everything was lovely! The apartment is easy to find, and in a great location - just a short walk to shops, restaurants, and bars, and quick access from the bus and streetcar lines. Brent was helpful, and had good suggestions for local spots, but unfortunately our schedules didn't really match up to interact much. I would highly recommend Brent as a host if you're in Portland!

  • Brent's apartment has it all: charm, comfort, cleanliness and location. If you are a foodie, everything delicious is at your fingertips. The city is completely accessible through reliable public transport steps away from his door. The NW area is ideal if you want to explore the local culture, and Brent made us feel at home. We were out and about every day during our stay, and Brent made the transition smooth and easy. A must stay if you are visiting Portland.

  • Brent's place was cute and comfortable. He was a friendly and easy going host. The neighborhood is great with lots of fun stuff to do in walking distance and is very easily accessible by public transit.

  • My friend and I stayed at Brent's place for a weekend and were very delighted, how centrally it is located. NW 23rd Avenue has loads of great restaurants and boutiques and public transportation is very close and gets you to all parts of the city.

The room, as well as the whole apartment, was very nice and clean, which we highly appreciated. Sharing the bathroom with Brent was easy and we felt we had a lot of privacy.

Brent seems like a very cool guy and is a good host- we would definitely recommend his place for visiting Portland!

  • My husband and I had a wonderful time at the White Rabbit! Brent was a very gracious and accommodating host who promptly responded to all our inquiries. The room and shared bathroom were both immaculate and we had plenty of space and privacy. The surrounding neighborhood of Nob Hill was very charming and boasts many delicious food options and cute boutique shops within walking distance. We had a car to get around the city but transit options were nearby. We couldn't get our Apple devices to work with the WIFI but researching the issue, it might have been something to do with us running IOS7. Would highly recommend Brent and the White Rabbit for your next stay in Portland!

About
I'm a pretty easy-going, quiet, gay guy living in beautiful Portland. I love cooking and eating good food and drinking good wine with friends. I'm trying to create my dream job by being a part of the founding team of an upstart company called Kids for Recycling. To make money, I'm a server and a pretty avid Airbnb host for about a year now. I've really enjoyed meeting a lot of interesting and friendly people hosting and look forward to meeting many more. My motto? "It's never too late to be what you might have been" --George Elliot
