Eclectic neighborhood is filled with turn-of-the century homes, some apartments, beautiful gardens and is well lit.
Your room is furnished with a double bed, freshly laundered linens, a small dresser in the walk-in closet, and a desk.
Take advantage of our garden views in the sunny back yard in the warm months or relax on the classic front porch.
We provide breakfast food items (coffee, juice, cereal, oatmeal and toast) and you can prepare your own breakfast. If you plan to prepare other meals, you are welcome to use the kitchen and we are happy to share vegetables from our garden when they are available.
Guests are welcome to use all common areas of the home.
Our historic 3-story home preserves the quality turn-of-the-century craftsmanship, while offering modern conveniences and comfort:
- Bright and cheery rooms, high ceilings, plenty of natural light

- Classic front porch and backyard patio
- Flower and vegetable gardens
- Updated kitchen with newer appliances
- Large capacity washer and dryer
- Updated electrical and WiFi Internet
We really enjoy traveling and our home features artwork and traditional crafts collected from our travels. We are happy to suggest activities you might enjoy during your stay.
I currently live in the home with one son (ages 17) who is pleasant and helpful. We are quite active with work, school and other activities, so we are gone quite a bit, but enjoy meeting people and chatting with guests when the occasion presents itself.
We have one dog, Lolita, a small cocker spaniel that is pretty calm in her old age.
There is lots to do in the area!
Some of my favorite places within walking distance include: Lake of the Isles, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Walker Art Center, the Jungle Theater, Spyhouse Coffee Shop, French Meadow Bakery & Cafe, the Wedge Co-op.
There are a variety of wonderful ethnic restaurants within walking distance: Vietnamese, Chinese, German, Indian, Mexican, Greek, and more.
For those that prefer to explore the area by bike, we are located near a Nice Ride bicycle rental station, with easy access to bike paths and bike boulevards.
I am happy to make recommendations of things to do that match your interests and budget. During the summer, taking a free sailboat ride on Lake Calhoun is a great option! Minnesota has a great Renaissance Festival in the fall. Ice skating at the historic Depot in downtown is charming any time of the year!
I hope you enjoy your stay and visit to Minneapolis!
When you send a booking request, please include some info about yourself and why you are coming to Minneapolis.
The main house rule... courteous behavior and a positive attitude are appreciated.
We are pretty laid back and flexible, that said, we would appreciate the following:
If you use the kitchen to prepare meals, please put your dishes in the dishwasher and clean up after yourself. Generally, leave the space in the same condition in which you found it.
While you are welcome to use the public areas (living room, dining room, etc) and friends may meet you at the house, it is our home so please do not share the front door code with others or invite other people to spend the night without prior authorization from the host (this was only been an issue once). There are many cafes, bars, museums and other places to meet nearby.
Thank you for not smoking inside the house.
I stayed at Tracy’s for three months while I was a visiting graduate student at the University of Minnesota. I had a fantastic experience at the Grand House. It is a beautiful home, and it really became a ‘home away from home’ for me. Whenever I had any concerns with the guest room, Tracy was very quick to respond, making sure I was comfortable. Having access to a full kitchen was also fantastic. Tracy also generously provided my mom with another guest room in the house, when she came to visit me for a few days. I also really enjoyed having Lolita, the family dog, around!
The location was also excellent, and couldn’t have been better for my purposes. A 10 minute express bus ride to the University of Minnesota, a 5 minute walk to The Wedge (the grocery store), while also close to downtown as well as Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles. I really can’t recommend the Grand House enough, if you are looking for a place to stay in Minneapolis.
Wonderful. Tracy was very helpful. House is beautiful, the room is just as it looks in the photos. Great location, quiet street but very close to Lyndale and Hennepin. Very good coffee nearby, Lyndale and 24th.
Would definitely consider staying with Tracy again.
Nice big room in pretty house in great location. I felt like I was living in a group home all over again--perfect combination of privacy and friendly interactions. Can walk to "Eat Street" and cab quickly to uptown. Given I had to work much of the time, it was nice to open windows and feel fresh Minnesota air, rather than stay in a hotel room isolated from the natural world. The hosts are lovely people--I hope to see them and Minneapolis again.
Tracy and Sherah are welcoming hosts, full of helpful suggestions. This is a fun household in a cool district, I enjoyed my stay here. The guest room is an elegant and peaceful space in their beautiful home and there is plenty of space for spreading out. Their place is in a nice neighbourhood in Minneapolis, well placed for exploring, getting in or out of town. There are lots of options for eating out nearby.
I had a great trip while visiting Minneapolis and staying in the Grand House with Tracy and her son. Very clean and organized, and I really appreciated being able to use a full kitchen. My bedroom was quiet at night, and the bathroom was spacious. Super convenient location to uptown and downtown Minneapolis too!
Thanks for sharing your home with me during my visit to Minneapolis. The room you provided had everything I needed; a comfortable bed, a desk, an arm chair and a walk in closet. I had come to Minneapolis for a convention so being close to the downtown area made it easy to get to the meetings on time. I could walk (about 25 minutes) or take the bus in to town. I found good restaurants within walking distance and even a natural foods market close by. But the coolest thing were the "Nice Ride" rental bikes that were easy to rent. I rode about a mile west to Lake of the Isles park where there are bike riding paths around this lake and two others. Wonderful scenery. I have been to Minneapolis many times before and have always stayed in hotels. I was surprised to find out how much I enjoyed ending my days in a room of my own, in a house, in a residential neighborhood at night. Steve

Tracy is the homeowner and works at a nonprofit organization where she gets to her values to work every day. Sherah is a nutritionist and is completing her certification to become an addiction counselor. We are friends, roommates, part of a book club and both enjoy dancing. Our sons (17 & 18 years old, both respectful and pleasant) also live in the house.
The four of us are often out-and-about or off having adventures - so feel free to inquire who or how many of us will be at home during your stay with us at the Grand House.
