Interaction with Guests
Case-by-case: it depends on how much guests want to interact. Sometimes I cook a meal, of share a coffee or go out with guests - sometimes guests just want to do their own thing. I'm fine with either.
As a rule, make yourself at home! Shoes off at the door, please. ....Oh and please, leave towels to dry in the bathroom, don't take them into the bedroom and drape them over furniture or (eek!) leave them on the bed. That's about it.
Alice was a wonderful host! This was my first AirBNB stay and she was so nice and accommodating. She helped me get a MetroCard and walked me through bus and subway maps. Her apartment is in a great location. It's very close to major subway lines and the neighborhood is fantastic. The room is very quiet; there is no noise from the street. The room is spacious and the bed is comfortable. I highly recommend Alice's place!
Alice was a wonderful host. She made me feel welcomed right from the moment I stepped in her house. At my request, Alice came down to receive me, and even helped me carry my heavy bag up three flights of stares to her house. The room was wonderful and clean. Alice took the time to explain what is where in the room and in the house. This helped me settle in comfortably. I enjoyed staying here. Its a fabulous place in a good location and Alice was a great host.
Throughly enjoyed my stay with Alice. She's a wonderful host and as a long time resident of Greenwich Village she's knows everything about her neighborhood. Not only will she refer you to a tavern, restaurant, or shop, there's a very good chance she'll know the proprietor. I wanted to bring my 15 month old granddaughter a gift from NYC, I mentioned this to Alice and she sent me to the perfect shop. If you're looking for a true Greenwich Village experience her location is perfect. Very close to the West 4th St. subway station. For what I needed I could not have had a better experience, and Alice went out of her way to make that experience enjoyable. Thank you Alice, I will definitely be back.
Lovely room in a great neighborhood in NYC. Alice was flexible accommodating my needs and was quite pleasant. I'd stay there again.
Alice did a great job of describing her place, explaining house rules and providing directions. My private room was light, quiet, clean, comfortable and had a pretty window box full of flowers and plants. My stay was brief but pleasant and the neighborhood can't be beat!
I had a great time at Alice's place. Her apartment is perfectly located with bars restaurants and shops in walking distance. And yet it's very quiet. The apt was clean and charming. Thanks Alice.
Alice was extremely welcoming, wanting to know how I was planning on getting to her home and then e-mailing me a journey plan. She knew I was arriving early and was very accommodating in agreeing to let me drop my bags early so that I could head out and explore. As it turned out, her previous guest left early in the morning and she e-mailed me and told me to head over and get settled whenever I was ready, offering me tea/coffee etc and then getting straight down to helping me plan my limited time in NYC.
The apartment was exactly as Alice had described and she was very clear about the fact that she would be there too (which is a godsend to someone visiting NYC for the first time and needing some local knowledge!) And the fact that her apartment is on the third floor with no elevator, which was no problem.
The location is fantastic - a quiet haven after a day in the noisy madness one finds elsewhere in Manhattan and a host who is genuinely interested in her guests and in helping make their NYC experience a great one. Fantastic local knowledge and great suggestions, as well as a very welcome cup of tea after a long day and night out and a good chat at the end of the day, debriefing, sharing travel stories and planning the next days activities. This is only if you want to chat of course and Alice is respectful of your privacy if that's what you prefer, but I suggest tapping into the local knowledge and sharing interesting stories - much more fun!
A very comfortable bed, birds chirping outside which is quite unbelievable after seeing the rest of Manhattan and an overall fantastic first NYC experience. I can honestly say I would not have seen and done as much had I stayed elsewhere, as my time was limited. It was Alice's enthusiasm and help in maximising my time that made the trip.
Thanks Alice! It was a pleasure to meet you and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and I will definitely be back.
About the Host, Alice
I've lived in The Village for a really long time and love it. NYC offers a wonderful lifestyle. I ride my bike everywhere, love going to the theater and am a fanatic about working out! I do triathlon, open-water swimming in the Hudson and have recently become addicted to Zumba.
I've traveled a lot in Europe, visiting the UK, Ireland, France, Portugal, Germany, and Austria. I've also been to Turkey and seen the gateway to Asia. But these days, I'm more into staycations, so it's exciting that the world loves to come here.
I'm a media maven: I subscribe to way too many magazines, watch way too much TV and too many movies, and The NY Times Book Review is my favorite weekly reading.
I love to cook, revel in good conversation and think a good laugh makes a better day.
