The Space

Located in the heart of beautiful Sonoma Valley, our gated 2 acre home site includes a barn that has a wonderful, private 1 bedroom, 1 bath and great room apartment above the winery. The "barn" is constructed with large timbers connected by mortise and tenons with pegs, a feature of most early American barns. It has a spacious covered porch with a big table and wicker chairs overlooking the field across the winter creek. You'll enjoy the quiet, the views of horses, and rolling hills and vineyards. I lived in the barn for three years, while we were building the new house. I just loved the tree house feeling of the space!

The bedroom overlooks the expansive lawn leading to the tree lined creek. The bedroom has a comfortable queen bed, and ample closet space. The gracious high ceiling living room offers a queen sleeper in the seating arrangement.

This delicious space is located over our home winery. I hope you'll enjoy seeing our climate controlled barrel room and our covered crush pad. Please enjoy a complimentary bottle of our wine upon your arrival, along with fresh fruit, flowers and coffee...which you can brew, we hope your visit will be one you will always remember.

Sonoma's Valley of the Moon is well known and enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world.Nearby are 10,000 acres of majestic park land with trails for hiking and biking.

Kenwood is a small (pop. 2,000) pastoral wine country village. We are within walking distance of exceptional restaurants and wineries, and well...just walks. Anywhere you walk is beautiful, and our streets have little traffic.

Our property has much native American History. It is located between where the Wappo tribe located their village, and their ceremonial site! We have found many artifacts here.

You can relax and enjoy the tranquil peaceful, park-like natural setting, or you can visit our well known Kenwood and Glen Ellen attractions. We look forward to hosting you!

  • This was my first experience booking through airbnb and it was great! Catherine and David are gracious hosts who made my husband and I feel welcome and well taken care of. We found a bottle of Catherine's cabernet, fruit, and chocolate waiting for us on our arrival. Emma, the resident black lab, was more than happy to spend quality time with her guests. This is no ordinary barn and no ordinary guest house. The second floor is a beautiful high ceiling, open beam one bedroom apt with views of of surrounding pastures, horses, and vineyards. The central location makes it super easy to plan day trips throughout Sonoma County. We can definitely recommend this lovely retreat.

  • We stayed here for Bottle Rock, and had a great time. The house was very nice, there is a creek that we went down to, and the bbq was really great.

Also, as an added bonus, Catherine's homemade wine was really excellent.

  • The loft was perfect and exactly as described; all the touches of home in the heart of Sonoma. The attention to detail on all aspects of the property was really outstanding. You can tell this place was crafted with love. Catherine and David were ideal hosts and went out of their way to be sure we had a great time. We loved (and made extensive use of) the gourmet kitchen; easy to find great produce and wines locally. There's a ton to do around Sonoma, but you probably know that already if you're thinking of staying here.

Would absolutely stay here again. Thanks Cathy & David!

  • My husband and I visited Kenwood to celebrate his 50th birthday. We have not spent much time in this part of California and let me tell you, it's gorgeous. This guest house could not have been more stunning. Quiet, clean, relaxing, secluded and did I mention the location is STUNNING. We wished we could have stayed longer! Catherine and her husband are such delightful hosts and we left feeling like longtime friends (and their dogs are adorable). They also gave us great advice on things to do during our visit. None of which were disappointing! We were so content with our time spent here that we plan to make it a yearly visit. Thank you Catherine and Dave!!

  • We would absolutely recommend anyone who want to explore Napa/Sonoma tot stay at Cath's house. It is a beautifull house next to their own house. We booked on the day of arrival and we were so glad she was able to accept our request. They even had a birthday party of their granddaughter but we were invited and got a huge piece of cake! Catherine (email hidden), she was always there when we needed anything, but also for a nice chat and the best wine from their own vineyards. It all felt very at home also because the lovely dogs Emma and Happy.
The house itself is great, a huge kitchen that includes anything you need, a private outdoor terrace, luxury bathroom and bedroom with a very comfy bed. And the surrounding is so peaceful and quiet. Thanks Catherine and family, for sure we will be back next time we visit the valley!

  • Catherine's red barn is amazing!! We only stayed for two nights and wish we could have stayed much longer. It is beautiful and clean and everything you could ever want for a weekend get away. It is in a very convenient location for driving around and exploring wine country. Catherine was out of town but was still very helpful and communicative from afar, and her son and his wife were wonderful hosts. They left us some great snacks and wine for our arrival which was such a nice surprise. I can not say enough about our time at the red barn, we just loved every little thing about it and we hope to return soon!

  • This was our first Airbnb experience and it couldn't have gone any better!

Catherine and Dave were absolutely amazing hosts and the accommodations were fantastic. Just what we were looking for as it relates to a relaxing weekend away from SF.

The Guest House is spacious and (email hidden) pasture. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio during the day and in the evening. The bed was extremely comfortable and the gourmet kitchen is perfect for those that like to cook or at least have the option of doing so occasionally when traveling. We also loved the small gas fireplace in the living room area.

Their property is also a short drive to many amazing restaurants (Glen Ellen Star!), wineries (Pangloss, bocce at Valley of the Moon, etc), and Jack London State Park is also worth checking out for the history, hiking, etc.

We are already trying to figure out when we can go back. Highly recommend staying here if you're considering it. I spent over 8 hours researching and can safely say that you won't be disappointed!

  • We just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary by staying one week at Red Barn Cellars-Guest House. Everything was perfect! Catherine (email hidden), travel consultant and tour guide all rolled into one. She spent a lot of time prior to and during our trip helping us to know our options, so that we could make the most of our time. She provided maps, menus, coupons and assorted tips and directions. She offered and spent one full day taking us around for a private tour of select wineries. Her knowledge of the area, winemaking, plants, trees and other assorted topics was thoroughly enjoyable. Each of her recommendations for hikes, wineries, restaurants, hot spots, driving directions, etc. were exceptional!

Upon arrival, we were welcomed into their lovely home for conversation and to share a nice glass of their personal wine. Besides providing an assortment of breakfast/snack items in the apartment, Catherine also shared a bottle of her fine wine with us. The whole family was very welcoming and even the dogs came by for a daily visit.

The apartment and grounds were amazing- the pictures really do not do them justice. The large covered porch (bigger than most living rooms) was great for grilling and dinner (if you wanted to cook) and just relaxing. The view of the nearby fields and horses was a treat. The apartment is fairly recent construction with exceptional attention to detail. It is open and light with many windows and the impressive open beam ceiling. It was pleasant with the spacious bathroom with large glass shower, and comfortable down-topped queen bed. Although there are walls, the open beam ceiling did limit the privacy. So although it was fine for the two of us, it could be really awkward to share the place with another couple (sleeps four via the pull-out queen sofa sleeper).

Overall, Catherine and Dave and their Red Barn Cellars-Guest House were simple the best little find in Sonoma! Kenwood was central to every day trip we took, yet off the beaten path. This was also a great value-Catherine should be charging double for how nice the place is and for all she does. Thank you for making our 25th wedding anniversary exceptional! We can't wait to return!

  • Oh how we loved staying in the Red Barn. We met Catherine and her family the night we arrived. It so happens that she has a granddaughter around the same age as my daughter. It was really nice meeting all of them. Her dogs are super friendly too.

Gorgeous gorgeous place!!! Cosy apartment just off Catherine's house. We had privacy and comfort. The apartment is super clean, cosy, comfortable and we could've probably lived there for a month.

Catherine's tips on what to do and where to go were greatly appreciated. We hit the Armstrong Redwood Forest (such amazing giants), the Petrified Forest, a local biodynamic winery (Benzinger) and an awesome restaurant called The Grill & The Fig at Sonoma Plaza. Thanks Catherine!

We would love to stay there again if we ever headed that way again. In fact, we've already recommended Catherine's place to a few of our friends living in the US.

  • It's hard not to have a great time in wine country, but Catherine, Dave and the beautiful accommodations elevated our stay to nothing short of amazing! Catherine and her family were incredibly warm and made us feel right at home. They provided us with excellent advice on wineries and restaurants to visit, along with an assortment of goodies waiting for us in the barn. Every detail of the property appears to be the result of a carefully conceived and well executed plan. We only wished we could have stayed longer. It's definitely the perfect weekend retreat at any time of the year!
