About this listing

If living 15 feet from your neighbour in a sometimes noisy village isn't your idea of a relaxing holiday, you might want to give us a try. Two acres of luxuriant grounds , solar run cottages, gives you space to relax as you look out over Hodges Bay and its islands.
Comfortably furnished for self catered holidays but only a short walk to a restaurant if cooking isn't part of your vacation plans. A secluded beach is just minutes below the cottage. Salt and fresh water bathing but never a crowd!

The space

This is a lovely cottage set up for two people to enjoy the beauty and wonder of Dominica. The night sky from your balcony is truly amazing.

It is a Studio Cottage with an open concept. Tiled throughout with a full sized kitchen, bathroom ,dining area and queen sized bed in the sleeping area. The large balcony looks down on the beach and river
valley below . The sound of the surf and the graceful swooping of the ospreys and herons above all add to the feeling of total relaxation. All windows and the door are screened to provide more comfort for the odd night the bugs are out.

There is a nature trail that leads down to the beach below and there are several other beaches within walking distance as well. Many times you have the beaches all to your self with maybe just a fisherman catching bait as the only other occupant. The village is a little over a kilometre and there you will find a number of restaurants, shops, gas station, churches etc.
It can be a wonderful walk in the moonlight as you walk down the road with the silver glint of the palm trees shining on the path.

The Studio Cottage is close to many natural wonders for you to explore. Waterfalls and secluded bathing pools , nature trails, hidden beaches etc. The natural beauty of the country surrounds you as every where you look there is a photograph waiting to be taken.

My stay at Sea Cliff Studio Cottage was perfect. Gweneth gave me a warm welcome and showed me where to pick Custard Apple, Papaya, Mango and Julie (there are other fruits growing on the property which were not in season). Soon after that Pascal passed by and asked if I like some vegetables. He supplied me with his Plantain and Pumpkin. So I was already set to cook my first basic meal in the fully equipped kitchen. Even a blender was available - perfect to make a juice from the passion fruit you can buy halfway down to the village or to make your own coconut milk from the plenty ripe coconuts lying on Hodges Beach. There are basic ingredients such as oil or salt available in the kitchen. The Cottage is well built and connected to the communal water supply serving drinkable water (which most of the time does not smell of chlorine at all). However being on top of the hill can make your water run slow at times of heavy use. If there is not enough water anymore they can switch to a rainwater reservoir of which you should not drink without boiling first. Most Dominican people are very friendly and helpfull. When they supply me with something I need I usually ask them what I can pay for it. If they have too much of it they would want no money. Otherwise they usually offer you their produce at a good price. To bargain is not usual on this Island, professional vendors have their fixed prices. Especially the people of Calibishie know how to make you feel welcome and are interested in your story. However the thriving tourism in this village makes it a target for the few criminal minds around the island. So you should not become too careless in this welcoming environment. Make sure there is a security guard at the most popular secluded attractions and/or don't carry around too many valuables in such a place. Make sure you get to know the few employees working at Sea Cliff. They won't ask you for money (unless they bring you something you ordered) and won't enter the verandah or cottage without invitation. When you use this basic common sense you can move most freely and without worry around the Calibishie area. The Cottage is on the weatherside of the hill. This means that there is quite a strong wind most of the time which takes the edge off the hot Calibishie climate. When there is rain coming in - which you will see coming some time in advance - it will reach anything on your porch. So make sure you take your shoes inside. On the other hand does the wind help dry anything very quickly so that you can dry your towels or laundry on the lines below the house even in the rain. I will definitely come back to a Sea Cliff cottage and I can recommend it to anyone who wants to...

The cottage was a great place to stay near the beaches and provided a good location for an easy drive to the airport. It was easy to find and check in was smooth. The beach within walking distance of the cottage was beautiful and secluded. The dinner recommendation was also fantastic. Hope to come back!

It looks even better than on the pictures, a beautiful little house with perfect sea view! We felt very comfortable in this house, the balcony is so wonderful with the sea view, all the area around is made so nice with a beautiful garden. We enjoyed staying there, and the manager Gwen made us an uncomplicated warm welcome and was always there for questions. It was clean and the location was perfect in a little town with some nice restaurants. The perfect stay and definitely recommended when you are on Dominica!

Nice and very relaxing place to stay. Hospitality was great. Very friendly people - thank you Pascal for the best avocado we ever had! The place and kitchen is well equipped, clean and convenient. We did not miss anything except to less time. Definitely a good place to be in Calabishie.

Our stay at Sea Cliff Cottages was fantastic. We enjoyed a most wonderful view on Dominica's Northern coastline. The example image provided is not exaggerated at all. Additionally, the studio cottage provided us with everything we needed. Even a rainy day can be spent comfortably in the cosy apartment. If the short walk down to Hodgson Beach seems too troublesome, you can easily reach one of the other beaches nearby. Also, every morning, except Sundays, a small bakery car comes by, if you fancy some fresh bread for breakfast. It's a great place to stay and very recommendable.

Lovely location a couple of kilometers away from a very friendly village. We drove to wonderful places on the island and relaxed at "home" in the evening. The view is wonderful and the place is very quiet.
