The Space

Rent this cute home in lovely San Carlos. There are 3 bedrooms (King bed in Master, Queen bed in guest room and a twin bed in office) that can sleep up to 5 along with 2 full bathrooms.

The kitchen is fully equipped and the formal dining room can seat eight. The newly remodeled master bath has marble countertops and a large glass enclosed shower. The guest bath is large and has a full sized bath tub and shower. The house is furnished with antiques and there are hardwood floors throughout. Wifi and digital cable are included as are all utilities. Other amenities include a washer/dryer, iron/ironing board and hair dryers in each of the bathrooms. There is also a new 50" HDTV and BluRay player in the living room, a 30" SmartTV in the office. The king and queen beds are also new.

The garden in the back includes a huge redwood and other mature trees along with lots of colorful flowers. There is a one-car garage and plentiful street parking. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and surrounded by other single family homes.

It is a 15-20 minute drive to Palo Alto/Stanford and a 30-40 minute drive to San Francisco, 3 miles to Oracle and about a mile to Cal Train. The house is walking distance to Laurel street and downtown San Carlos. Burton Park has a great playground and is three blocks away. It's also a short drive to great hiking trails and Filoli historic estate and gardens.

Unfortunately, there are no pets and no smoking in the house. The maximum number of guests is 5 people, including children.

House Rules

Here are a few things to know about the house:

Dining Room
The dining room table can seat 8 people. Please keep pads on dining table to protect the wood. Unfortunately, the china cabinet in the dining room is locked due to a prior problem with breakage. Please do not use the items in the buffet in the dining room. There is plenty of dinnerware and glassware available for use in the kitchen cabinets. Please try to keep eating and drinking to the kitchen and dining room areas.

Garbage/Recycling – Wednesday Night and Thursday Afternoon
Garbage and Recycling bins are located in the garage. Garbage pickup is on Thursday mornings. On Wednesday night, please place garbage bins (2 located in the garage and 1 on left side of house for plant clippings) out on the curb, with metal bars on the side facing toward the street. They ask that the bins be placed 12 inches apart to facilitate the pickup process. The pickup is done in phases with some bins not being picked up until later in the day. On Thursday afternoon, please take the bins back inside the garage and back to the side of the house. If you are not up for doing this please let me know and I can make other arrangements to have it taken out or in.

Laundry – Washer/Dryer and Iron
The washing machine is located in the garage and laundry detergent is located on top of the dryer. There is also an iron and ironing board just to the right of the dryer. The laundry detergent goes directly on top of the laundry in the machine. There is a place to insert bleach on the lower right, though be sure to have the machine full of water before adding bleach. Adjust the left knob for the size of the load and then adjust the right knob to the type of wash. Pull the right knob to start the machine.

Leaving the House
Please lock all doors and close all windows when you are away from the house.

Kitchen – Oven and Dishwasher
To turn on oven, press the 'bake' button on the display. Then adjust the temperature using the knob on the right. The oven will beep once the desired temperature is reached. To turn it off, press ‘cancel'.
Dishwashing detergent is located under the sink. The operation of the dishwasher is pretty self explanatory. The only thing to note is that if, after starting the wash cycle, you open the door to add another item, you will need to press the 'start' button again to start the cycle. Please no sharp knives in the dishwasher and please do not use metal utensils when cooking on non-stick pans. Also, please do not use knives to open up packages or as tools as this damages the blade. There is a cutter in the first drawer on the right in the garage if you need to cut something open. 

Master Bathroom
To turn on the water in the shower in the Master Bath, turn the lever counterclockwise to the “On" position. You can feel where it will stop. To turn off the water, turn the lever clockwise to the “Off" position. If the water is still dripping when you turn it off, adjust the lever up a bit.

The master bathroom is newly remodeled. The marble countertops are porous - please avoid using any item containing alcohol or ammonia (including eye glass cleaner, nail polish or nail polish remover) over the countertop. Also, if possible please use the squeegee the glass in the shower after using. In case of emergency, there is a plunger located in the garage to the left of the washing machine.

Noise, Neighbors and Parking
Please try to be courteous of neighbors with no loud noise after 10:00 PM or before 9:00 AM. Also, if possible, please try to park in front of the house or in the driveway rather than in front of the neighbors houses.

Because of serious allergies, there are no pets allowed.

This is a non-smoking home. If you do smoke please do so outside.

The sprinklers in the garden go on every morning at around 7:30 AM. You may hear a noise in the kitchen as they go on. The gardener will arrive Saturday morning and will work for about 20 minutes. They usually arrive somewhere between 9:30 and 11:00 AM.

Please give a little water to the houseplants, maybe every 4 or 5 days. There is a watering pitcher in the garage on the dryer. There are three in the living room, two in the kitchen, one in the green guest bath and one in the master bath. The one in the dining room is silk as is the orchid in the living room. If you are not up for this, please let me know and I will make other arrangements.

Also, please water the outside flowers by the barbeque and the pots by the stairs every 4 days, especially in the summer. Please let me know if you are unavailable to do this and I will make other arrangements. 

TV – Living Room and Office
Living Room TV
To operate the television in the Living Room:
- Press the “Power" button on the black and silver xfinity remote (to power on the TV)
- Use the xfinity remote to change channels and adjust volume

To play a movie:
With the power on to the TV and Yamaha units (as mentioned above)
- Press the power button on the black Sony BD remote
- Press open on the remote, insert disk into BluRay Player and close
- The TV will automatically start the movie in this mode
- You can use the sound on the TV and adjust volume on the Sony remote or to have surround sound, power on the Yamaha remote to switch sound to the BluRay Player (LD-TV).
- Use the black Sony BD remote to operate movie and press play.

Office TV
- Power on with Sharp remote – keep on channel 3
- Power on Comcast remote (use for changing channels - use Sharp remote to adjust volume)

Checking In and Checking Out
Check in is at 4:00 PM. If you need to arrange an earlier time, please let me know and I will see if we can make other arrangements.

Check out is at 10:00 AM. I usually try to have the cleaning people in by 10:00 or 10:30 AM so please be courteous and plan ahead for a prompt check-out.
When checking out, please:
Remove the sheets off the beds
Start a load of sheets in the washing machine to help the cleaners get a head start. Laundry detergent is located on the shelf in front of the washer. The detergent goes right on top of the laundry.
Place the used towels on the floor in the green bathroom
Place dirty dishes in dishwasher and start the cleaning cycle. Dishwasher detergent and other cleaning supplies are located under the kitchen sink.
Remove food items from the refrigerator
Place garbage in the garbage bins in the garage. There are additional kitchen garbage bags under the sink in the kitchen and in the garage.
Leave keys on the kitchen table – you can lock the front door from inside before you depart.

If you experience any problems with the house or if there is any breakage that might need repair, please let me know. I want to keep the house in shape for future guests as well.
